Would spray foaming the roof not help seal it whilst you save for replacing the roof?
@thechateauadventures10 күн бұрын
I have no idea. Generally if there was an opportunity to foam something Curt would have been the first to suggest it (he loves expanding foam), so it may not be the right solution… possibly not least because the roof spans 480 square metres circa 5,000 square feet 👀 will ask the question thigh, thanks. ☺️

@thechateauadventures23 күн бұрын
Hi Seth. Yes, we were able to fix the problem areas for now. Invariably until we replace the roof, there is always a risk that tiles will move or, in a very bed storm, that the water passes back up under the canal tiles. However, for now, we have no leaks ☺️

I take it skips are fierce expensive in La Belle France. A skip and a set of those tubes would save you a shed load of work moving those bags of rubble
@thechateauadventuresАй бұрын
They aren’t too bad. Circa €250 of 8m3 for 8 days. The challenge we had is that we only had about 2m3 of stuff which didn’t seem worth it plus the rubble wasn’t in one place so not obvious to pick one single spot for the skip that would be readily accessible for all the rubble we needed to dispose of. That being said, there’s some future projects where having tubes and skip combination will work brilliantly and save a lot of time 🤞🏼🙏🏼
@RaySqw785Ай бұрын
@thechateauadventuresАй бұрын
@RaySqw785Ай бұрын
@RaySqw785Ай бұрын
@thechateauadventures29 күн бұрын
Merci. Merci 👍🏼

Most of the comments thus far are fairly gloomy. Personally I would prefer to sound a more optimistic note. However, I'm at loss to do so. I went to visit some cousins today who had to give up their lovely home and move to a nursing home. It's odd really that so often these hard decisions are determined by one of smallest rooms in the house, the toilet. Walkers and wheel chairs are practically incompatible with toilets as one ages. In a similar way roofs have a sort of "out of sight, out of mind" existence until they fail to do their assigned task properly. Perhaps it is a blessing to know the extent of the problem and seek a remedy to the roof problem before proceeding further with work that could easily be damaged in another storm. I wish you well.
@thechateauadventuresАй бұрын
Thanks Seth. Sorry to hear about your cousins. ☹️ that must have been. Hard decision for them (or perhaps one that was take out of their hands). We know what we need to do… we just need to find the money to do so. Hopefully our London flat will sell soon 🤞🏼

I don't understand your approach. When we bought our property in the Luberon, the first task was to fix the roof and the windows.
@jtholland1013Ай бұрын
Everyone’s journey is different- there are a lot of folks who DONT fix their roof & windows than do patchwork. Congrats guess you’re wealthier than the average Château & other DIY’r…🙄. Why not share a positive input of HOW instead of a take down perhaps
@thechateauadventuresАй бұрын
If you would genuinely like to understand our approach you can watch our vlog from a few episodes back where we answer that exact question. We would have loved to tackle the roof first but various plans didn’t go to plan. I am very pleased to hear you were able to address yours straight away. A weight off your mind I am sure.

if the roof is good doesn’t matter how much rain comes down
@thechateauadventuresАй бұрын
True, and I agree with you in theory. However, this was an exceptional storm and we know plenty of roofs that were supposed to be ‘good’ that leaked in that storm. It was exceptional. We know we need to change our roof and we will once we have the funds to do so. In the interim we are fixing it as best we can. Typically it doesn’t leak 99% of the time… thankfully 🙏🏼 or every other episode would be about our roof leaking 😬
@Kaligirl681Ай бұрын
I'd never do anything inside until that roof addressed. You're throwing good money after bad.
@thechateauadventuresАй бұрын
Us neither given the choice. But we didn’t have too many options as our London flat sale hasn’t gone through and the bank which had given us a loan in principle closed its doors just as we were about to sign for the loan. As we don’t have a spare €250,000 lying around to redo the roof yet we are doing the best we can with the resources we have. The roof doesn’t actually leak in 99% of cases thanks to the work we have done to patch it up - only in extreme weather. But agree that the optimum would have been to do the roof first. C’est la vie 🤷🏽♂️
