Still in love with my army green 2021 Tacoma. Drive nice, excellent off road abilities

I love that you’re building a second GEN. Best truck ever.

My local dealer had an off-road premium hybrid for the same price as a ranger raptor. Reliability can be debated between the two models but what you get with the raptor makes it a serious competitor, I’d probably try one before the taco honestly

Can we just get the Hilux? Not the mediocre garbage that the US design team makes?!

I went from a 3rd Gen to a Gladiator about a year ago, and it can easily fit 38s with a 2-inch lift. The Gladiator wheelbase is really long at 137 inches, but with 38-inch tires, it is not a problem. The haters like to come out of the woodwork over Jeeps reliability. Well, compared to these new Tundras and Tacomas... I guess we will see. So far the Jeep is holding up better than these new generation Toyotas, I've had zero problems, and the Gladiator goes to places my 3rd Gen couldn't muster.

I’ll be honest, using MTS as a justification for anything is a joke. I’ve had my Tacoma for several years and could count on one hand how many times I’ve used MTS. The rear locker is why you buy an OR.

Lovely review with all the live on-track comparisons and explanations of things that axrually matters! Toyota ahould review your returned vehicle for areas of improvment. The same lessons learnt from real world user environment is invaluable!

Crazy how no one is talking about how the new trd off road comes in manual also which is a big deciding factor for me!

After watching this I changed all the tires on my performance Tesla Model 3 to pizza cutters and all the tires blew out going over a railroad track.😕 There must have been something sharp on the tracks, so I replaced the tires with the same size and all of them folded and popped going around a corner. I’m going to get a lift on it and put bigger tires on and report back.

On my titan I went with a 285/75/18. Is it the best of both worlds or the worst of both worlds? Who know but they look good and don’t rub when I turn.

what a cool video. While I don't want a mid size truck at all, I really enjoyed watching this video!

Great video, glad you touched on the price. People are stuck on the price tag of fully loaded models with every option possible. My 24 TRD off-road was 45k, didn’t see the need for the 8k premium package, hybrid powertrain, etc. It’s still better equipped than my fully loaded 3rd gen was and the powertrain, comfort and fuel economy are vastly better.

Nope, nope and absolutely nope. I will still keep my Gen3 manual OffRoad. I experience few, if any, of these problems, especially if I have the rear locker on through the touch obstacles. Manual does not have crawl control. Stick it in 4Lo and it becomes a nearly unstoppable tank. Put a 3" OME suspension on it and some 33 pizza cutters and, short of rock crawling/mudding, I can go just about wherever a Yeep can go. I'm not paying that much for a 4banger with some plastic fantastic garbage. Just no. Unfortunately, the new Taco is for mallcrawlers and young kids, in my opinion. As far as I'm concerned, Gen3 is still the last good Taco.

Your way of breaking this stuff down is truly exceptional man. Bravo. You’re far better explaining this kind of stuff than anyone else. I hope Toyota takes notice. I’m still sad we didn’t end up being Trailhunter bros 😢😆

When trying to compensate for some added weight and adding lift springs, which is a better coil option: Stiffer spring rate/shorter length or longer spring/lighter spring rate? I have 5th gen 4runner with approximately 300lbs of added weight and would like to achieve a 1 inch rear lift from stock height.

Thanks Kai for going through all the work to make this comparison. Aside from the cost, I'm glad to see the 4th Gen upgraded with all these new features. I'm sticking with my supercharged 2nd Gen for now as it's more than capable for all the off-roading I do in Hawaii.

Toyota guy, and Kai guy here. These newer gen’s are complete turds. They figured out 99.9999% of yota buyers don’t even use the rig they bought. I’ll hang on to my 18 until I die. Edit - I’m shocked Kai didn’t talk about the new colors, or stupid new seats, like other reviews only cover. Bout time there’s some actual INFO here.
