Omg I have the same bozzolo yarn and I have been thinking of making the same pattern James has released!! The yarn is so squishy, I'm so excited to see yours work up!

not to roll in a week late with a book rec, but I just finished A Werewolf's Guide to Seducing a Vampire the other day and while it sounds extremely smutty, it's actually a cute whimsical modern fantasy love story that was an easy read with minimal explicit smut! certainly would recommend for fantasy-light silly-goofy-cute-story vibes ALSO - the sweater vest turned out so cute! I'm obsessed with the colors for SURE

Straight white male truck driver here. Learned how to knit and crochet in 2020 when the world was on fire! Not a lot of my kind here on KZbin but I’m super thankful to be a small part of the community. Keep up the great work! Love these long form videos, gives me something to listen to while crafting!

They’re both very cozy. The sweatpants are old navy, I size up for an oversized fit. The red top is from Girlfriend Collective, it’s their Topanga Halter Bra.

Yay, a great chatty project video! I've also been wanting to make the Arctic Light Sweater without a mohair held with, so yours gives me great inspiration. Also, so glad that you could find the fade that you wanted! If you ever need more fade recommendations, I've really liked using Scheepjes Whirl (cotton/acrylic) and Valley Yarns Easthampton (merino/nylon).

Isabella, I wonder if I should go into some kind of crafter's rehab programme? Until now I have been only knitting and re-upholstering. You have made me interested in drawing, quilting and crochet. I think I must win the lottery, so that I can quit my day job and just create. I have now bought yarn for a crochet project, lovely. But what's worse... I bought art supplies without thinking if I had any talent. Now I don't know how to get started! Any podcasts for people who would like to draw monochrome pictures with pencils?
@BreathingYarnКүн бұрын
I often dream of winning the lottery so I can do all the crafts I love. I don’t know of any specific pencil drawing channels, but I do follow a lot of general art channels that I love (Cheyenne Barton, Fran Meneses, Furry Little Peach, Leigh Ellexson, Little Tiny Egg, Make Art Not Content, Megan Wong, and Valerie Lin)

I'm trying to get back into the "process over project" mindset myself, emphasizing having fun doing it rather than producing a lot of stuff. I think we could do with more people promoting that instead of dozens of finished wips each month. Long story short, no you don't need to produce massive amounts of knit things all the time. :)

Those shorts are so cute! I think that same pattern would make awesome pants too! Like if you just lengthen the legs, maybe add some patch pockets on the front, make them out of a nice cotton or linen, they’d be such cute pants too. A two-fer 😊. Yeah, what is it about thighs getting cold? Like, I went winter camping twice this year, and I had my thermals and some layers and all the parts of my body were fine ... except my thighs! I'm more insulated there than I am in, say, the lower half of my legs, but they don't get cold like my thighs. It's bizarre.

You know what, after all those years of knowing that quilting exists I just now realised that it might be really good thing for practicing straight seams after I saw your squares, like it wasn't the most obvious thing ever 😂 I'm definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. And I would definitely use even just some backing fabric on it, it would be a shame if so much of your hard work would get frayed and destroyed. Or maybe would use pinking shears, they should help, but I don't know if they'll be less work.
@lucyfinch9911Күн бұрын
Everything looks amazing! The Arctic Lights sweater is working up so well - I always love seeing the updates of that one! What stitch did you use on the pajama shorts to make the elastic still stretch under the stitches? It might be a simple answer but it's somehow not processing for me how that works. Either way, they look so great!!
@BreathingYarnКүн бұрын
I just used a normal straight stitch but I stretched out the elastic all the way while sewing it. That way the thread is just as stretchy as the waistband elastic.

I feel like a long projects breed because we're looking for the satisfaction of a new project being finished. Plus when you do shorts, you have less time to dwell on whatever you want to make next. Long projects and more creative ideas can become real chicken and egg scenarios. What works for me is a rule that no more then 3 long term projects are in the works at once. Anymore and I will drop them in to that land of "oh, yeah, I gotta finish that" and don't finish it for like 4 years or more- or more likely I won't finish them at all cause I have lost interest and gained guilt. What's your long term project rules?
@BreathingYarnКүн бұрын
That’s so funny, I’m very similar. I have a 2 long-project maximum and they have to be different crafts (ex: sewing and crochet). I also give myself full permission to give up and that freedom of choice makes it feel better.
@chloebtvs2 күн бұрын
So that's a funny thing, what is called "French seams" in English is called "couture anglaises" aka "English seams" in French. 😂 Love the pyjama shorts, they indeed look very professional! It's such a good idea to unsew an existing garment to make a pattern out of it, I'll keep that in mind.
@unepetitemarmotte29182 күн бұрын
I'd also heard that the French idiom "Filer à l'anglaise," which can be translated to "Run the English way" and means "To run away from danger without being noticed" can be translated to "Take French leave," "Filer à la française." I love this kind of trivia 😂

You are inspiring me to sew! I have a machine but haven’t used it in years, and it will be a while until I can pull it out and make something. We are in the midst of packing up our house in Silicon Valley and prepping to move back to Canada - sewing will have to wait, I think. 😅 ~Brenda

Haha… so here is what I’ve discovered with crochet… it is faster than knitting. UNLESS you are doing granny squares or something more tedious. Basic stitches/projects move very quickly.
@MichellerosecusackКүн бұрын
I usually make three granny squares a day. It takes me about 15 minutes to make a 5 inch dk 3 mm square. But I don't like knitting, and I am desperately slow at it. Actually, I will insist on trying to Tunisian crochet anything first before picking up those pinty needles that I dread.😂😂😂😅 I think it depends on your craft preference. I am a crocheter who hates to knit. So, I am slower at knitting. Crochet my medium of choice. It fits how I think, design and how I work best. Consequently, I am much faster than a knitter who dabbles in crochet.

I will say that experience is a big factor in crochet being faster than knitting, but 45 minutes to an hour is a very long time for one square. And that’s ok we all have our own pace, but I wouldn’t expect one of those to take more than 15-30 minutes for myself. It’s no wonder you’re getting frustrated with them.

The sewing is coming along great! Your concern about the squares not lasting is valad. I would suggest once you get the blocks together to back the whole thing with a couple sheets. Skip the batting. You can then quilt the two layers together on your domestic machine. The very minimum you would need to do is a big x through your blocks. That will be enough to protect your seams.
