considering he's reptilian, i'd push his features even more. make his legs bend back a little, give him spikes or ridges instead of hair, replace his ears with fins because reptiles don't have visible ears, even make his nose look different. fantastical races get even more fun when you don't limit yourself to a very human perspective!

From what I've learned. Character design for animation can be VERY different from games and comics For 2d animation especially be very simple to avoid animation errors For comics be as complicated as you like because you only need to draw them only a dozen times per issue For 3d games they are 3d models

This video, and your character specifically reminded me of one of my OCs, YM. He's an undead Dragon with a darker colour palate. The video helped my think of how I will change his design over time. Starting with sharper edges, a cloak to hide his skeletal appearance and a the primary colours of his body being a dark, very dull almost grey blue and dull, dark yellows. And over time showing more bone with his clothes, smoothing out the edges a little, and having a more vibrant blue with a shiny gold as the primary colours to show how he's slowly coming to accept himself for who he is and that he's being more open to others coming into his life (or unlife?) I think I'll also have him go from empty eyeholes that don't change to having some small wisps in there and having the sockets show different expressions. If anybody has any thoughts on how else I could improve the design then let me know.
@Girl_DelinquentАй бұрын
@@thebreathinglad309 I love this characters design so much, or at the very least how you describe it. I do have a suggestion based on a book I read. It was a monster romance in which the monster had wisps like you describe but they changed color based on emotion. Green = envy, yellow = happy, etc. I don’t advise trying to find the book as it was very explicit but maybe you could put your own twist on this idea. Anyway, cool concepts all around, love how the design changes with his character growth 💀🐉 Edit: you could have the empty sockets for when he’s sleeping, that’d be cool. Also from the book, I think

Yooo just wanted to drop a comment after coming across your channel and watching your character design videos in succession (of the crocodilian pretty boy and his partner, I'm sorry I'm bad at names and already forgot) but just wanted to say that I feel like you're too hard on yourself and your designs!!! As much as I want to respect your own opinion and decisions and feelings about how you ended up designing the characters I honestly thought all of the iterations especially of the reptillian guy were so good!!! (altho i am biased to hot gay masculine characters overall....) I also love how you edit your videos and your content!!! It's super engaging and enjoyable, and as an amateur/just beginning youtube/content creator I feel totally inspired by what you're making and how you present it!!!! (I am an artist as well, but since I work mostly traditionally and in horrible lighting... and in bed mostly 😅🤣 I find it near impossible to get good videos of my process- and that's if I even can remember to film.......) ANYWAYS all that to say I hope this can boost your spirits even just a little, cuz I think you deserve to have way more confidence in yourself and your art!!! 💞
@Girl_DelinquentАй бұрын
I meant to reply to this sweet comment sooner but I got caught up. But thanks so much for all the kind words, it really does make a difference knowing people enjoy the characters and the content. I do overdo it sometimes with how hard I am on my art and my process. But sometimes it's because I KNOW that I can do better and I have that faith in myself, you know? I also just like ripping my work apart, writing or art wise. I don't connect it to my self-worth as a person like I used to. But after working on the project off camera since this video, I've finally shown myself the designs I really wanted to see/knew I could eventually do with these characters. I still want to stay humble. If I don't, I go off the deep end and suddenly I think everything I make is a masterpiece. But I'm definitely proud of myself for sticking to the vision despite what I felt were awkward designs. It paid off and I'm excited to share in the next video. (Project CD is coming back, my newest project is moving to a seperate channel). And thanks for the praise on the editing especially!! Sometimes I doubt if it's entertaining enough. And I love that I inspire you 🥲. I still struggle with consistency too. But keep going and find a schedule/system that works and you'll at least be better than me at it 🙃

If he's a mechanic, maybe he lets it grow out a bit, but nowhere near as much as Shaggy.

This advice will actually help me with my character designs. I usually just draw humans, whether they are in a normal setting or a fantasy setting, but my dumbass didn't think of drawing the human skull and muscles.🤦🏻♂️ I do, however, look at a LOT of fashion and hair styles so that I try to get a good silhouette for my characters. Plus most of my characters are LGBTQIA+ (minus the most of the characters' parents or some other characters that are still relevant to the plot). And whenever I draw a character of a different ethnicity, I look at reference photos for people or that specific ethnicity and draw sketches while also keeping the somewhat cartoonish art style that I currently have but still having it still look mature in a way (I don't how to explain my own art style, sorry if that was confusing). Plus one significant thing about my art style is that whenever I draw the ears I places x's as the inside of the ear instead of drawing what the outside of our ear looks like because I've tried to many times but for some reason I just can’t get it right so I just put x's in place and I think I'm gonna keep it like that forever because I want people to be able to recognize my art style as it is stylized. Thanks for the advice btw, I will DEFINITELY study human anatomy like I should've done to begin with.😂🤦🏻♂️
@Girl_Delinquent4 ай бұрын
I know it's the bare minimum but I think it's cool that you really put in the effort to draw different ethnicities. Some artists refuse to and severely limit themselves, their designs, and people they could be reaching with a more diverse cast. I also make all my parent OCs straight, I don't know why lol. And the X's in the ears is always a cute detail whenever I see it! But as you grow as artist, be open to changes in your artstyle. Until recently, I felt obligated to keep my old style even though, I'd long outgrown it and didn't really like it. But for some reason, I felt like I had to keep doing it the same way. But don't beat yourself up too much on not learning anatomy, we're all creatives and seeing the value in things like that can be difficult or just hard to find interesting. Better late than never 👍
@THE_ENBEEZE4 ай бұрын
@@Girl_Delinquent Thank you so much! I really try to look closely at their facial features while also still making it look mature + cartoonish but not over exaggerated like certain animated shows do. And I may change style somewhat one day but I know I'm DEFINITELY keep the x's on the ears detail because that's gonna be very significant with my style but I will DEFINITELY gonna experiment with changing my style a bit. I also forgot tomorrow mention this but I've always been experimenting with different body types because for one of my projects, one of the less female characters has a plus sized body and I've been looking at references for those types of bodies too. Oh and there are two projects that I've created where the main character has gay parents. I would recommend trying to expand that too that way people with queer parents feel seen too. I honestly, I would like to see one of the characters in Her Kiss is So Last Season with gay parents. I would definitely like to see Tom with gay dads, idk why but I just do. But that is ALL completely up to you especially since I know the script for the series is done so you probably can't do that if you specified that he has a mom and a dad but it really doesn't matter. But I would definitely love to see a character with gay parents.
@Girl_Delinquent4 ай бұрын
As long as you experiment you'll be fine 💫 but that's neat that you already have a direction you want to take your style. Also yess, different body types are so important too and part of why I like "Her Kiss" so much. But maybe I should expand my writing towards queer parents. With Tom, I kinda see it too and it wouldn't be a rewrite since his parents are introduced in season 2 which is not written yet. However, it would make his conflict with them more ironic than intended and give him an easy way out in his development. (I wish I could explain what that means but spoilers.) But now that you mention it, I do see Avery (Alecia) with two moms though. It partly explains why she is the way she is in the story🧐
