13:15 I low key kind of love the idea of Oscar making any excuse to go see Angi-Anggi, how do you spell her name?-and to show her his music, bring her gifts, and shower her with praise. There’s not NEARLY enough mainstream media with black couples that are just wholesome. Like why they gotta do them like that?

As someone who isn't a fan of animal-centric movies, I LOVE the merpeople idea! I wasn't a fan of ST and felt like the 2000s had bad (imo) animated films in general, I'd have loved this. (BTW, I did think it was a good point for you to mention interracial couples in the media. As a multiracial person, I want to see more of it, but I respect your desire to want to see more POC couples who are the same race.)

I WANT MORE MERMAIDS! lol, I wasnt obsessed with mermaids growing up (maybe because I wasnt interested in the Atlantis lore?), but I do love them. Ever since the whole live action Ariel controversy, and knowing that theres mermaid lore in different cultures, I wanted more stories of mermaids 😫 This was a great video for this reason. I loved Angie in sharktale, and I love the hairstyle you gave her 😊 I love your art too. This is my second video I watched from you.

I completely agree with you on black love. I'm white but even I've noticed how mean black men can be to black women and we need more stories that show people that that isn't how it has to be. I also like that you made Angie darker, I've seen a lot of black movies where the nice girl just so happens to also be the lighter skinned girl while the mean girls tend to be darker. Anyways, cant wait for the next video!

Wow, this is a neat take on a Shark Tale remake! As someone who grew up on this movie & saw Schaffrillas Productions' video on it, I've always kinda seen the idea of a rewrite of it from the "making it not just a Shrek wannabe but w/ the mafia" angle, so it's nice seeing ur perspective & pointing out more of the racial angle (from a legit story angle & not just the odd "not a lot of white fish can't do it" type jokes, lol)! This vid is kinda inspiring me to actually rewrite Shark Tale! Also, can't wait to see the Lenny & other character redesigns!

I'll one up you and say that the "shark slayer" plot would be replaced with some sort of fake thug plot. The mafia is terrorizing the city. Frankie dies because he and Lenny were fighting over a gun after Sykes calls them to teach Oscar a lesson as punishment for the debt, (earnie and bearnie would just drop him off I guess). Oscar gets shot/grazed by a bullet (or almost), but lives to tell the "tale" (no pun intended). In which he lies saying that he killed Frankie and this propels him into fame and he becomes a "gangster" rapper even though he probably doesn't want to be that type of rapper. As for Lenny, he leaves the scene once the police show up and goes into hiding. When he bumps into Oscar they have an exchange I assume would be a little similar to the one they had in the movie, and Lenny becomes his partner or his bodyguard (tho I think that's what happened in the movie as well). I haven't put much thought into this idea, but I think it would be a good repla for the movie's current plot. Also I think mermaids who look like the ones from that one animal planet "documentary" would also be cool. I like the idea of what a "shark mermaid" would look like. (I'm probably imagining a siren or something).

Shark Tale wass honestly one of my favorite movies growing up. I can see the issues with it now, but it still holds a strong place in my heart. I always saw it as a black film, 'cause growing up that's how my family always presented it to me (especially since they're a black family coming off of the 70s-90s black sitcoms). I love the new designs and story! I'd love to see the others if you ever feel up to it. This movie was veey reminiscent of black central films back in the day. Lots of pinning for money and better resources, but never having a way to get it. Plus, like you said, the relationship between Oscar and Angie was pretty sweet. Sometimes in other nlack love films it can feel superficial. However, I always did like that these two had a common ground. Be it friends or romantic interests.

I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKE THIS REWRITE. I love the idea of them being small mermaids but the mutual-pinning WAS THE CHERRY ON TOP FOR ME! And Oscar's motivation just works so much better! Can't wait to see the redesign for Lola.

tbf I absolutely loved the movie as a kid and rewatched it multiple times, but looking back on it now, it really doesn't make much sense lol. Still love it for the nostalgia tho lol

making them mermaids is actually such a genius move! the designs are so pretty and compliment the vibrant colors with natural ones very nicely(also did you draw Angie with bubble braids? cause if you did, that's a very clever character design bit, with the ocean and all:D). I also appreciate your commentary on how the movie uses black culture, I am white and when I was a kid, I didn't understand the references it made or the stereotypes it endorsed, so this is very informative!

You have no idea how much I appreciate that. I do get discouraged about my videos sometimes but viewers like you remind me why I do it. But give yourself a little more credit! I'm more than confident that you can do what I do. Keep learning when it comes to your art! Practicing is not enough on its own. I would practice a lot but I didn't improve until I understood why certain things have to go in certain places. And analyze the media you consume so you understand why it works or why it doesn't. Do it a lot. Maybe write some short stories. That's really all I did to get better at art and writing. But it really means so much to know that my videos help with your personal style ☺

That’s okay 👍. Personally, I just don’t think it’s one of those kids movie masterpieces that you can still really enjoy as an adult like Megamind. It’s just a kids movie nothing more nothing less 🤷‍♀️
