I actually adore your character redesigns! You took the established characterizations and matured their interests into something that actually makes sense even while adding a new interpretation to everything! I would have been thrilled if this had been what we got, instead of Mindy kissing her own anus. Also, I really really LOVE your version of Fred! I will admit I've seen him as the 'Dad friend' in the group since I was a child, and seeing him mature into a more grounded and focused character is pretty awesome. : )

I feel like the biggest misstep in the show was setting it in high school, once you remember that Fred is a minor a lot of the stuff to do with his parents gets straight up uncomfortable to watch. Like, the show tries to paint him as this super-priviledged character and it falls flat because we're straight up watching a child get horribly abused by his parents before he ends up losing everything. Weirdly enough the rich white dude ends up the biggest victim of the patriarchy and I'm genuinely unsure if that was intentional on the show's part or not.

I agree, the fact that he's a kid just made me feel bad for him and it ruined the jokes they were trying to make. Probably not their intention. I think they were going for the hateable dumb jock character (Like Todd from Nimona) but somehow made him the only one with funny dialogue🤷‍♀️

I love the redesigns, I do think maybe Freddy and Shaggy are too similar in an identifiable silhouette kind of way, just the long hair, cropped jacket, wider leg pant - they just read like very similar designs. Maybe swapping Shaggy's jacket for like a normal length hoodie or shortening Fred's hair would help - but I do think overall you did capture their characters in both a very unique but still recognizable way. I love the group dynamics, and would watch this version of the show in a heartbeat. These are character so many of us grew up with and love immensely, and you can feel that in the care you took with your redesigns, and the way you've shaped their personalities and friendship.

I’ve heard that mystery Inc fred is also autistic coded or that they meant to make him autistic coded so that might influence how he’s written in that show in particular. I'm actually doing something similar where I redesign the Scooby-Doo gang with a more original 1970s style. I'm making sure all of them keep their original personalities with some few added additions. Heck, I'm reworking on an old fanfiction called The Hauntings of Crystal Cove where I use Mystery Incorporated as the main inspiration. Coincidentally, I had also made Fred a mechanic but he does it in secret since his dad wants him to focus more on politics.

I love your take on what the show could have been, it’s also nice to see somebody else who’s favourite Scooby Doo iteration was Mystery Incorporated, I have so many fond memories of watching that one when I was younger. I’m not sure if I could pick a particular favourite character you rewrote because I really like them all, but my favourite character dynamics you described are definitely Velma and Daphne dating, as well as Fred and Daphne’s brother-sister like bond. I just adore any kind of sibling like relationship in stories. This is a great idea and I just wish this is what we actually got instead of the show Velma, I would definitely watch this if it were a real show.

Also, I did hear about Velma being canonically lesbian but I thought the guy confirmed that for his specific rendition of Velma which was the Mystery Inc one. @@kamthefriend5847 in mystery inc. she basically tried to force herself to be attracted to shaggy, changing the things that she thought made him unattractive to her physically before realizing the biggest reason she wasn't truly attracted to him was that he was male, not female. the girl they called "hot dog water" or Marcy ended up Velma's girlfriend but they couldn't outright say it at the time cuz it would've got the show cancelled.

About Fred liking guys, I asked my parents when I was Fred for Halloween what his character even was, mainly because I only vaguely remembered his character in Mystery Inc. Since I've been out for a while, my mom made a joke that he was "gay just like me--" I didn't remember that, so I asked my dad and my aunt about it. Apparently a common thought when Scooby-Doo was in its first few shows and reboots and such was that Fred was gay because of his complete obliviousness about Daphne. I think he's always had mild gay coding, even if it wasn't that intended in the first few runs.

I remember watching the original Scooby Doo when I was younger, and then I started to watch a few of the movies, I loved all the characters given their unique traits but Shaggy and Fred were my favorites out of everyone and I hated how they massacre my baby Fred and Shaggy in Velma like.... I know that in the other adaptations Fred was a little bit of an airhead but he was an kind dude, but in this one, they gave him no liking points even after 'fixing' his character by making him read an book and for Shaggy, they constantly bring up that he doesn't smoke or does drugs, and they got rid of his love for food :( and like you mentioned the signs were there in the original

I like all the outfits and I know you slightly changed their personalities but I personally think that there is something off with Velma's outfit. I think it is the color. Daphne's definitely fits her the best. Amazing 👏 It fits her personality Going to be honest I don't really like how you changed Shaggy but your Shaggy's outfit fits your shaggy so... Lastly I have mixed feelings on Fred's outfit because I think it fits him. Like color and personality but to me it always feels weird when he doesn't have his Ascot(?). Also yes Bellbottoms for him! Overall I really like your art and most of the changes. The outfits really are pretty/cool though. My favorite is a tie between Daphne and Fred leaning towards Fred. I do think it is difficult to update the outfits of characters that barely changed (sometimes) in the past 50(?) years Hope I didn't sound to mean or anything. I doesnt quite work with your time line, but, I love the idea that Daphne comes up to Shaggy to pet Scoob. Shaggy tries to start his fuckboi stuff, and then clocks that Daphe is head over heels for Velma and gives up. But Fred doesn't realise that and part of the reason he's tense with Shaggy is because he thinks that Shaggy is going to try and use Daphne and break her heart. Just a running joke of Fred and Velma being totally oblivious to Daphnes huge crush that everyone else can see really obviously.

I do enjoy all the redesigns - however I'm not sure how to feel about the Fred one....I WOULD love to watch your rendition because I'm sure he'd grow on me but also on another note I've known writers not knowing what to do with him whether it be trap obsessed or the dad friend I wouldnt mind him being gay /homosexual because the funny idea of Daphne realizing it through him flirting with guys is peak comedy to me and I love that . So cute! I also really like that you leaned into their outcast (and let’s be honest neurodivergent, Fred’s autistic af) traits. I really enjoyed the video but I did want to recommend that you lower the volume of the clips. You have a really nice and soft voice but a lot of the clips and music are much louder so it can be a bit startling when they kick in. Audio balancing is tricky but it really helps make a video more smooth!
