I am definitely a fan of your training style. Your method makes sense. I’ve always said this about fine tuning training to a breeds specific. I always notice that trainers often use Shepherd’s as a staple for their dog training. A shepherd is easy to train but notice they never have a stubborn breed as their staple?

One of my cousins has a Boykin. He's just the most delightful little dog, just LIVES for toys to carry around, fetch, play with. As much as I'd enjoy having a lab, that little guy could win over an old man's heart in a flash. Interesting, hearing they're so sensitive. What a fine batch of dogs getting some camera time today. Even the nap-potato, a handsome sack of wrinkles.

We ask our dogs. Who are just simple God's creatures, to be instantly obedient, perfect in their behaviors, and we ourselves as rational humans have trouble being our best 24/7. We are all flawed. Giving your dog some Grace in their lives, is good for everyone to remember. Thx for the videos

Thank you thank you thank you! I love labs and golden retrievers, but I might be among that group who needs a smaller version of that kind of dog for my next dog. I have not considered a Boykin spaniel until now. I appreciate these commentaries on the various breeds as I very much value Stoney's opinions. I'm a healthy active 66-year-old. smallish person. I might not feel like leash training a big Goofy sensitive in my 70s and Beyond. I'm going to rewatch this episode for pointers on training the sensitive dog my current golden goes into a tailspin with any corrections at all. Fortunately that's not my style

I love that little Jack Russel. I really enjoy seeing the different breeds together. I Adore scruffy terrier type dogs. I've had standard schnauzers for 25 years and I cant imagine ever not owning one. Hopefully we'll see a schnauzer someday at stonnie ( imo the standard especially are the german chilled out version of a terrier :) ) I'm also really exited to see a bordeaux dog. We had one when I was growing up. He was a giant 70 kg/153 lbs Dog and he was great.

So have a question. We watched some of the videos from 4 years ago when your son was working with a Malnoise and was interested then in doing service dogs. We now own one of these and wondered if he kept up with this life choice and whether he has a youtube where he is showing what he is working on/with currently???? We sure have been bingewatching almost all of your vlogs and its just been so helpful! Thank you.

Stonnie, I'm interested in getting a Jack Russell. The one in this video is adorable! How do I make sure it's the one with the calm personality like the one in this video? I also love Goldens but they're too big for me to handle since I'm an older woman. Is there a dog that has the friendly, sweet personality of a Golden, but is around the size of a Jack Russell? By the way, I really enjoy watching your videos. The calm professional way you handle the dogs is inspiring.

Hello Stonnie. Watching your video from the comfort of my sofa in the UK. Love your calm approach. I love the long slip lead you are using. What length is it. Here we can only get 3-4 foot long. Love a longer one like the one you are using. Do you know where I can purchase similar to the one you have in the states. Many thanks

Black and Red GSD. BRED for family companionship. balanced temperament medium drive temperament. Of the three types the Black and Reds make the best family dogs. Unfortunately slope has been bred into top lines so like most have health skeletal propensity to unbalanced structure. They are a beautiful breed that does require good training and consistent grooming.
@David.Eng.Ай бұрын
I could be wrong, but I don’t think coat genetics affect personality and drive. Do you mean show line gsd? Black and red gsds can be working line GSDS as well. I have a sable gsd that’s extremely chill and well mannered(until I unless the kraken). My dad has a black and red gsd that’s a complete high drive malevolent roller coaster.

Hey Uncle Stonnie, i'm with ya on the whole talking heads epidemic, and i'm curious if there are any people or channels that you actually do recommend for those of us who like to consume a lot of dog related content, or do you still only watch van life videos yourself? 😄

Would love to know how you adjust your training for Romeo. I think I've fallen in love with him. Thought I could see some similarities between the coonhound and my gsp, I know they're not the same type of dog but wonder if you'd agree? Thanks Stonnie- love your videos.

the shepherd is gorgeous, i have a puppy who will look similar when she grows up, black and red long coat. the only line of shepherds that are allowed to have the long coat are west german showline. the breeder i got mine from breeds for search and rescue dogs so has mixed lines and ends up with a lot of coats. not sure which this guy is but i love him! and i totally understand the struggle of doing food work with a gsd in the cold! my poor fingers!
@viridianaxvi8880Ай бұрын
also, because i've watched so much uncle stonnie, i have my puppy jump up or climb on just about anything we come across on our walks. the other day she was off leash and we came up to a boulder, she climbed up on it herself and waited for her treat! working hard on that proprioception.

What you do with the Boykin spaniel, I need to do with my Malinois as well. "Sorry" is also a very sensitive dog. I have to push him as little as possible. Even if I show a little bit of dominance, he gets scared...
@GeeskeGentilАй бұрын
Thank you for this video. I learned a lot. I already changed my expectations for "Sorry" in the past. But I still have to change my training "technique". I have to get it as soft as possible to reach my goal. I want him to get less anxious and fearful and be able to walk outside without attacking people and other animals. He is getting a lot better in the two years that I have him now - he is now 7 years old. At this time I can make my training technique even softer without loosing my goal. He just needs to get to be a happy dog with a little bit more trust in me. Two years ago he didn't trust nobody, he was not socialized and didn't listen to basic commands. So I needed the Internet trainers to learn me all the tricks in the world and see what worked and what didn't. Your video helped me to realise my goal. Thank you ever so much..!!!!

I wish I could see more mixes and mutts in these videos. I had a pioneer mix best dog ever ! Mixed with so much German Shepard, Labrador, golden retriever, chow chow, terrier, and boxer. He had a lot of energy always wanted to walk all day even on his last day of life. Wonderful temperament, and great protector.

I have a Boykin. He has a nose like no other dog I’ve had. I am “polite” to him but he can smell when I’m upset. I don’t think hurt feelings run in his line, He thinks upsetting me will inspire me to chase him which is his favorite game with other dogs. So whatever you do when a Boykin steals your cell phone, stay calm and don’t chase. (We don’t set our phones on the coffee table anymore) Oh, yes, our Boykin has a soft mouth - no phone damage. We wait for him to return the “retrieve”. Hoping this is just his adolescent shenanigans. . .

you reminded me of something mark dubose said in his video "smack the dog that will get it to listen" (he doesnt hit his dogs btw was just touching on a mentality) he said that unfortunately there will always bea market for people like dog daddy because unfortunately there will always be a market for a quick fix because those "i dont care how you go about it just fix my dog" people will always exist. the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKjFZaWmp9eIgtksi=XWiX9FME6cLNRBf8

Dog Daddy is awesome, he helps the xl breeds no one else interacts with. Even the Wonderful Stonnie, here, seldom deals with any aggressive XL dogs (these guys are about ~90-230 lbs. healthy weight). He live streams his process and hasn't removed any videos despite controversy -- go find a video of him abusing an animal, there isn't one. There is a lot of less popular trainers talking drama though, I wonder why they're all less well-known trainers 🤔 I'm glad to see someone out there actually making progress regularly with aggressive, XL breeds who are usually otherwise put down. Look for another dog trainer that deals with xl aggressive cases -- they're a vapid minority unfortunately because it's dangerous and no one wants the difficult jobs for the same money.
@angelinacamacho8575Ай бұрын
@@seanthomas5182 not saying he abuses animals just that his tactics seem to attract those ¨i dont care just fix my dog in 5 minutes¨ trainers like him and even zack to a point basically tell them ¨i can do that¨ when the reality is that it takes 5-10 minutes to learn a technique but takes months and years to hone that skill. trainers like stonnie understand that taking on a large XL dog has more to do with the physicality and mentality of the owner/trainer and how well they can manage such power and has very little to do with how powerful the dog is. a trainer in their 60s will have a much more difficult time dealing with a young powerful dog because they themselves are not young and strong enough to keep up but this isnt necessarily an indicator of a good or bad trainer just a trainer that cant keep up with certain dogs which is fine because certain kinds of training require certain kinds of trainers. i wouldnt use a pet dog trainer if i was looking for bite work training and i wouldnt go to such a trainer for pet dog training.
