Brilliant video as usual, and very important especially for novice staffy owners, obesity in dogs 🐕 nowadays is an all too common problem and very bad for any dog 🐕, our amstaff is 9 months and she weighs about 55 lbs.

My female mix was deemed to be 3kg overweight on her last vet visit but I don't believe the veterinarian considered she is a mix of a Stafordshire Bull Terrier/Amstaff and Bull Terrier.,the latter that tend to be heavier.

A dog needs to have it's food halves, until it reaches a sensible weight. Then feed it a meal size that won't make it overweight.

Mine is overweight because he's on longterm steroids because he has skin issues which is very common in the blue gene so it's very hard to keep his weight down

Our boy is 11 months old now, not sure what he weighs but at about 8 months he was 21kg - and he's gotten way stockier. We've cut back on his food a bit, but he's always hungry and crying for food - he goes to his feeding place and cries. Although looking a bit sleeker I don't think he weighs any less. From the diagrams I'd guess he's borderline a little over. You can see him here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5WvhGBqaL58g5I

My Staffy weighs heavier also however she is a Staffy mix, her father was an Amstaff and her mother was a Staffordshire/Bull Terrier mix so I am not overly concerned as her dimensions are good in terms that although she is slightly rotund and I can still discern her ribs. Awesome and affectionate dogs. Hard to resist their cries for treats but the trick is to balance these with their meals and to keep a container of treats (family members to use this container without resorting to other resources) - same quantity every week that works and that lasts a whole week before it is replenished with the same quantity the same day the following week. Tweak if required. For example my dog was fed lasagne - tailored for a dog - on Tuesday night so she does receive 1/2 the amount of treats over the next few days and is given a longer walk the following day plus a swim if possible. They gain weight even more easily when they are older so this is really important. Also if you feed them meat based dog foods, give them a little less and fill it in with raw carrots (if their teeth are still healthy otherwise boil it a little to make it softer - reason being carrots are best raw if their teeth are healthy), peas and celery. Mix it in properly and add some low calorie biscuits for extra crunch. Avoid adding rice or other high carb/starch foods. Find an exercise he loves and repeat. Sorry if that sounded sanctimonious but I did enable my own dog to become overweight for a couple of years until my husband stepped in and took over the reins. She is now of a healthy weight range. So I am glad he intercepted as it taught me that love is not spoiling the dog and giving in to her demands, but giving her the right diet.
