@@davidking2844 If you are targeting very small bream, have you tried the Trout Magnet Mini? It’s a lot of fun and the smallest jig head on the market, I believe. It’s fun to double rig them or add them about 6-8” on your line above a regular size Trout Magnet.

Great content I agree. Has St Croix even been told how many of these panfish rods they would sell, if they made a bait casting version with the same blank? Probably not, or they aren’t listening. Still no dedicated BFS rods from the company.

Perfect, could be just what I’m looking for. We are both now in our 70’s, I have a Sportspal canoe 13’ we’re getting pretty unstable and the pond prowler looks like this may be our best bet. I’m going to sell the canoe , head over to Cabela’s to see the boats. Thanks for posting. I think I’ll like the 10’ for my wife bc and I.

I definitely recommend the 10’ Pond Prowler or 10’ Pelican Bass Raider for 2 people. Both are fantastic little boats. If you add a trolling motor, but no outboard, would definitely add a rudder of some kind to the back to help with tracking. It makes a world of difference. Also, I try to remember to tell everyone who asks about these boats…. You will want to keep a 10-15lb anchor with you, as even a light breeze can move these little pontoon style boats around. Good luck and feel free to email me if you have any questions. Thanks so much for watching!🙏🐟

Thank you for the tip! I’ll have to try that one day. A couple of the locations near me that hold trout are currently on delayed harvest right now, so I don’t think scented/flavored lures are allowed quite yet at the moment. Which one is the crappie going after the trout magnet or the crappie bite? I have seen other channels and on tv that do both but only give credit to one or the other. Very confusing?
@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 10 күн бұрын
@@josephramus2392 I would think it is the entire “lure” as a whole. While both the Trout Magnet and the Slab Bite will catch fish by themselves, the combination adds a touch of scent/flavor/extra color contrast to the Trout Magnet. I use Slab Bites nearly every time I crappie fish. While I can’t scientifically prove they increase your bites, I do 100% believe they do based on my own personal experience. They certainly won’t cause you to get less bites…and for about $3 for a jar full, it’s worth it in my book. Again, from all the times I’ve used them versus not, I am a firm believer that they increase catch rate. Thank you so much for watching and I hope that helps?

@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 11 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! First… please do try ultralight fishing, it’s so much FUN and easy enough that everyone can enjoy it. There are plenty of great options out there for just about every budget if you and your son are looking to buy your first setups. Can you tell me a bit about the price range you’d like to stay in and roughly how old/interested in fishing your son is? That would help narrow down some suggestions.
@dreadful_hero
@dreadful_hero 11 күн бұрын
@ This would be our first setup so leaning into a more budget focused build might be wise. I’m thinking around $100-$150 per unit. My son is only 4 at the moment but I’m excited to give him certain opportunities and experiences I wasn’t given growing up.
@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 11 күн бұрын
Bravo for being a good Dad. For around $120, a solid “do-it-all” ultralight combo could be the TCB Rod, a Daiwa Legalis LT 1000 reel, and some Trout SOS line in 2lb test. That setup is great for float fishing, cast and retreive (swimbaits/spinners/crankbaits), and twitching/finesse fishing plastic lures. For the little fella, I would honestly recommend getting him the 4’6 or 5’ Shakespeare Micro Lite from Walmart to learn with. For $20, it comes with a simple reel that will allow him to learn the basics and have loads of fun catching bluegill and other small fish. Plus, if he drops it in the water or breaks it, it was only $20. If he takes to it, you can always upgrade his setup easily. Hope that helps. You can get lots of other great suggestions here on KZbin, so I highly recommend doing some research on budget or entry level ultralights before ordering anything. That said, you cannot go wrong with the items I suggested here. Feel free to email me (info on contact page) if you would like some additional options to consider. There are several good rods and reels that you can get in that price range. One last note, don’t stress too much on buying a really high end setup for your first ultralight combos. You don’t have to spend a fortune to have fun catching fish!
@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 10 күн бұрын
One other option for your son that you might consider. For around $60, the Shimano Sienna Ultralight combo is a fun little entry level ultralight setup. It’s also a 5’ rod, I believe, which might be easier for the little fella to handle.

Eastern NC just doesn't have them, at least not natively. I just found three places nearby that stocks every year. I might have to go give one a try next week. Thank you so much for watching, Dan! Yes!!! The 5’ Trinity Series is significantly more rigid than my 5’6 Presso or the Shakespeare Micro Series if you are familiar with either of those. It’s not a “noodly” action. I personally enjoy both types of rod, depending on the application. This one, to me, is very good for twitching. I’m not the most “cultured” person to weigh in on how it might compare to very high end rods, but in my own limited experience, this rod has a terrific balance of rigidity and flex. Bottom line… It looks and feels great…and most importantly, it’s extremely fun to catch panfish and trout with. If you are in the market for a rod this size, I feel confident that you would like it very much. Thanks again, my friend!🙏🐟
