I've got the Quest 3 and a 4070 graphics card. I gave up on VR with MSFS2024, and went back to TrackIR. I just never found a good compromise between performance and eye candy, and I tried just about every tip and trick online. DCS World runs amazing in VR for comparison. Maybe in 2026 Asobo will get it optimized enough that you can actually enjoy it without a 4090 or 5090.

Totally get where you're coming from. Understandably, VR is an afterthought (a bit, at least) for MSFS2024, as a relatively smaller percentage are using. it. However, that number grows every day, and if they made the VR implementation better (no easy feat, I'm sure), then more people might want to use VR in it. Thanks for the comment!

I don't do VR for one reason and one reason only, It makes me feel sick. Nonetheless the sim did run like a dogs breakfast for me on launch but I can honestly say that it keeps getting better and better. I think this sim is going to come into it's own but it was a bad launch to say the least. Instead of trying to get VR to work so I could get a good experience out of it, I went and started pilot training and got my PPL. I found that to be way more immersive than VR ever could be, so I am glad the VR thing never worked out for me.
@jollyjulian19 күн бұрын
Totally get the reason you're not doing VR - if it makes you feel sick, it's going to be no fun. Hopefully as the sim gets running better in VR, that won't be as much of an issue, but Flight Sim can cause people to feel a bit sick more than most VR experiences. Good idea doing the training and such while waiting for the sim to get better overall. And I agree, it will.

Yes, I absolutely confirm the glass cockpit graphics in VR during daylight are horriby. Totally washed out/ too bright. I also fly mostly at near dawn with many clouds to have nice graphics. Outside of the cockpit it looks good during bright daylight, it's inside the cockpit where it does look horrible. It's the refraction of light on the windscreen that is simply not working properly. MS/ Asobo really has to fix that! Btw, what helps a bit is enabling the sunglasses mode in the OpenXR toolkit menu. Another problem is still the textures. Many many textures still look absolutely awful. At grand canyon you can see that they implemented good textures. But if you fly somewhere else in the mountains like in the alps, you see a lot of bad textures. Even in many popular hotspots like Bora Bora you see very terrible ground textures. Even in many of the locations which they have used in the photo mode. I don't get why they can't fix that. Better world map textures are existing.
@jollyjulian20 күн бұрын
Great comments here - I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing the washed out issue. Solved by flying at designated times. I haven't noticed as much of the bad textures in nature yet, but I haven't flown in a ton of different places yet. I'll keep my eyes open for that, and like you said, I'm sure they will keep working on that. Their list of things to do much be massive.

I have the pimax crystal with a 4090, and in 2020 with medium high settings, I would only 35 fps outside photo cities and 15-20 fps in the cities. I use New York discovery flight as a benchmark. I would also get audio popping and stuttering when low. All my issues were caused by CPU limitations. I have a 14 core OC all core at 4.6Ghz which is great for multitasking, but poor for a single world thread. 2024 seems to use the processor much better, and with what I consider to be higher settings then in 2020, I get 45fps in the NY discovery flight without stuttering or audio issues and its looks better than what I had setup before. I also find that IMC seems more realistic and comparable to real life when it comes to approaches through clouds. The way the ground starts to appear and disappear in IMC in VR is more realistic in 2024 vs 2020 where the ground/runway gets too much definition. When flying a Cessna to minimums in real life, there is a moment of terror where the runway and ground haven't shown up, then something shows just a little and you're deciding whether you actually see the runway, or its in your imagination. 2024 has delivered that same feeling a few times, but 2020 never has. I think it's due to the lighting improvements in 2024. Only bugs that affect me, and it's really fking annoying, is when the mouse stops interacting with the cockpit. I tried career mode it's a hot mess.

I could not agree more. Quest 3 user and helicopter simmer here. Can confirm everything. Only difference is that I felt that SSW does not help me because my impression was that graphics get more blurry. But this might be due to the fact that I only have a 4080s and that I will have to improve my CPU (gonna be next week…the I will see if it helps me). MSFS 2024 for me as helicopter simmer is waaaayyy better than 2020. Due to the better terrain graphics the immersion in VR is so much better. As far as the flight model of helicopters is concerned I feel that it is also massively improved. Meanwhile it feels like being competitive with X-Plane and DCS. For me the only only only downside of MSFS2024 for the moment is the VR mode being still a bit buggy. But it improves. I will stay on MSFS 2024
@jollyjulian19 күн бұрын
Love it! Yes, the helicopter flying is amazing. The terrain looks so darned good. I have not noticed a blurriness with Virtual Desktop's Space Warp, but the in-game DLSS definitely does. @thomas_ger409819 күн бұрын
@ I should have been more precise. It is not really blurriness but If you look through a moving rotor and there is a marker for a POI or a helipad behind it in the distance, the marker becomes blurred and also flutters a lot. That is an effect of SSW.

Its surprising how different people get different results. 2024 looks better and smoother then 2020 for me. I've credited the multithreaded enhancements to the performance boost, but I get a solid 45fps with ultra settings even down low in the photo cities. My CPU was my bottleneck before though. Just one of the things 2024 does better off the top of my head is that I can now see the wind sock at pattern height. In 2020, it wouldn't show until 500 ft above it. Also, it flies more like a real cessna 172 in 2024 then before. Real 172s bounce around quite a bit, especially when slow. For instrument approaches, its normal to fly final at 90knots to keep the plane stable on the localizer or it will drift all over the place, add a crosswind in there and you'll be lucky to hit the airport. Also, in real world, as a renter of lots of Cessnas, no two fly the same. They all have their quirks. There is definitely bugs in 2024, and I hope they fix them, but visuals and performance haven't been an issue for me.
@jollyjulian24 күн бұрын
Yeah, it is fascinating how different the results are for different people and different hardware (even when the hardware is pretty top-of-the-line). I appreciate this, and will be playing more 2024, and trying to tweak stuff a bit. In fact, spoiler, I MAY have a video coming soon about some new experiences in 2024... I know it will get better, but 2024 has a LOT to get right. It's very rough, but I believe they will get it to be THE simulator to use. I just think it will take till at least middle of 2025 for that to happen.

Nothing against Playstation at all, I've just never been a console guy. I'm a PC gamer, primarily. However, I would still lean you toward the Quest 3 for a few reasons - the PANCAKE lenses are incredible. Great clarity. However, the PSVR2 has OLED, which I know is pretty awesome. But PSVR2 still have the Fresnel lenses, which are really not ideal any longer, IMHO. Also, with Quest 3 you have the capability for standalone vr with no cable, AND PC VR without a cable (if you have a wifi5 router or better). This is fantastic as you can take the headset anywhere and play standalone titles, and connect to a PC when you want the really high-end visuals. You do need a fairly beefy PC, however. Not top-of-the-line, but a good gaming PC at the very least. Hope that helps!
