Keep in mind however, brand new NG guys who are in states that don’t do SFRE such as North Carolina will not get the specific experience you describe. You go to RSP drill which prepares you for basic training, but you do not recieve any SF training, mentorship, or even testing. I’ve heard it’s different in other states. In these cases, it is imperative to seek outside resources. Attend a Hell Day event if you can!

Everything you said is 100% factual and a solid way to program running for tactical athletes, but there’s also nothing wrong with running every day

Aside from tier one units, the fittest dudes in the military are those who compete at Best Ranger. They all run every day. Many, close to 100 miles a week
@InfiniteGrit
@InfiniteGrit 4 күн бұрын
I've personally known many guys who competed in Best Ranger and not one of them ran every day during their prep. Elite endurance athletes may run every day during a specific block of their training cycle but it is not something they do perpetually and during these phases requires very specific loading, huge emphasis on just running and dialed in nutrition and recovery. If it's just running for health, sure you can run every day. But if performance is the goal across the many disciplines required of tactical athletes, I would never encourage someone to run daily, especially if they're varying the types of runs they're doing on a weekly basis and managing fatigue from higher intensity sessions.

@curingthenaivete1642

If the air national guard has the same kind of deliberate preparation at the SF National Guard (SFRE to see how you perform under stress, SFCP to be more proficient at land navigation, and mentorship from Green Berets) then yes. The difference isn’t because they are in the guard. The difference is more preparation.

220 minus your age is a decent rough estimate but depending on the persons health and cardio levels, it could be lower. For myself, my max HR is 186. If I were to subtract my age from 220, it would be in the high 190s. Same with 180-age and you get your max aerobic HR. These are good guesses and can aid in starting but once you get to a certain point, going out and getting your blood levels taken, and HR levels analyzed by a specialist would be vital to your training. Especially if you want to be a professional or possibly even SOF in either of the branches.
@InfiniteGrit
@InfiniteGrit 13 күн бұрын
@@anferneefigueroa7635 true! There is always going to be some variance but it’s important to note that even if it’s not perfectly in zone 2 (within a few BPM) it’s not going to have a big impact on performance as long as you’re staying below the aerobic threshold (AeT). I prefer to use 70% of MHR over 180 - age due to that variance. With the 180 - age you’re likely going to technically be in zone 3 and closer to your max aerobic heart rate which is where we start losing or missing the intent of the session

Don’t know if my advice would carry as much weight as his, since he’s former SF and I’m currently training for SFAS but I would say make sure you heal up fully and go after an 18X contract. You have a whole year to go and typically muscles/joints after surgeries become stronger/tougher. Make sure you follow the recovery process completely and ease into any training that involves stress to your shoulder. You don’t need your shoulder to run. Keep building your aerobic and anaerobic endurance and as your shoulder heals, ease in some strength training starting with resistance training and then adding traditional strength training slowly. Good luck man. Injuries early on suck.

While you were in SF, how did getting promoted work? Was it line scores? Or was it your leadership deciding you were ready or not? Or maybe time in grade?
@InfiniteGrit

Usually it’s an auto promotion from 5 to 6. I got auto promoted at the end of the q course to E-6 (prior service) but typically 18x’s will pick it up after 6 months on a team. If I may, that’s not really imposter syndrome at least how I understand it. Imposter syndrome would be if you became a green beret then still felt like an imposter. I have imposter syndrome in other accomplishments that I have. You don’t feel it’s deserved or that you are good enough to acknowledge it even though you did pass/ accomplish. Fast Twitch muscle fibers, the fibers you use in a 1 rep max squat, deadlift, bench press or overhead press are anaerobic in nature, meaning they use anaerobic glycolysis for energy source, meaning they fatigue quickly. The military is a strength-endurance occupation, which is more of a slow twitch muscle fiber training. Slow twitch muscle fibers have significantly more mitochondria and blood vessel. If you have ever gotten a pump from Weightlifting your slow twitch muscle fibers are filling with blood. Slow twitch fibers are anaerobic in nature. Now there is a way you can train both. It would take too long to explain but there is a book titled, Kettlebell Axe Method by Pavel. It is an interesting read.

Hey Mr. Hamilton. I’ve been following you free SFAS 90 day work up plan. I’ve been running into an issue with my lower back. I’ve always been more of a runner than a lifter. After deadlift days, I find my lower back to be extremely tight. No pain, just very sore. And it takes me days to recover from it. It was so bad that I couldn’t run. So I had to skip about two days of running. I left on a pre planned vacation on day 15 for about two weeks. My back completely recovered and did the 40 minute slow tempo run with no back stiffness that forced me to stop not even three quarters of a mile in. I just did day 16 two days ago and I could tell that I would need an extra day of recovery if I wanted to complete the run on day 17. I’m wondering if I should skip doing deadlifts all together, maybe go to a trap bar, or do deadlifts every other time it’s scheduled. I’m 6’2 205lbs and 24 years old. Turning 25 at the end of December. I have been active duty army before and want back in. I have more experience rucking and am thinking about replacing most deadlift days with rucking days. Looking for your professional opinion on what I should do. Thank you

@@TheBullDog525 hey man! Yeah if conventional DLs are giving you problems it can be a couple things. Switching to trap bar is completely fine but we do still want to build up that posterior chain strength. Things like DB RDLs, glute bridges/hip thrusts, and accessory work like banded clam openers would be good to supplement with in the meantime. Don’t do anything that aggravates it and if you do work back into DLs just start light. Don’t ever progress beyond what you can do with perfect form and focus more on gradually building up strength than trying to hit a specific number on DLs
