Ok love love the sounds, especially "I am grand piano." It's got a great low-fi feel. Only thing is, where do I add the expression pedal for sustain? I tried in the mod matrix, but all 16 slots are taken up. I used 16 and connected it to envelope release but it didn't sound quite right, possibly because I replaced what was there.

Great video; I have a stupid question that's driving me nuts: How can I unlink the Mod Wheel from the vibrato? I'd like to link it to PolyAT. When I go into Voice and reduce Vibrato to 0, then assign PolyAT to vibrato, it ONLY works when the mod wheel is turned up and I'm pressing a key hard, however, it affects ALL keys, so it's not behaving like poly AT. It's behaving as if the PolyAT is rather "re-engaging" the global (mod wheel) vibrato. This is super frustrating and I can't imagine why they wouldn't make vibrato a basic function of aftertouch - it seems so damn obvious for expressive control of notes. What am I missing?

You can load your own wavetables to hydrasynth?
@MajorOSC3 ай бұрын
No, the video is mostly about the process of selecting invidual waveforms to form a cohesive wavetable. Workflow, the process / approach in selecting waveforms, and then some interesting ways to modulate them.
Is there a smooth transition when selection one sound to the next?.....ie..the previous sound still rings on the keys pressed

how do you send the polyafter touch to the Summit?...or do you mean using the Hydrasynth as a controller out to the midi in of the Summit?
@MajorOSC4 ай бұрын
Control with Hydra. Turn off MPE on Hydra. Summit's poly aftertouch responds to poly aftertouch, as opposed to MPE. It may have been updated to accept MPE, but I've sold off all my keys since last year. Sorry I couldn't help further.

@@MajorOSC do you have to power it down a special way? I was reading something like that somewhere
@MajorOSC5 ай бұрын
@@TwinCitiesOxygen The power supply is connected using a 5 pin DIN (same as Midi). No power switch built in. I purchased a small power strip with a on/off switch to have local control. Later I paired it with a rackmount power switch PC-100A. Big thing you should watch out for is to avoid plugging the power supply into the midi port by accident. A good way to avoid that from every accidentally happening is to plug in really short Midi male to female extension cords and just leave those in at all times. Mostly this is just a solution for new owners who travel with it alot.

Hi, MajorOSC, can you tell me if I should get the Hydrasynth Deluxe as opposed to the "standard" Hydrasynth? Thanks!
@MajorOSC7 ай бұрын
Me personally I would (I did) opt for the 49 key. It's easier to lug around. all space used. The hydrasynth for me was the most limitless hardware synth in terms of routing, which means the amount of time spent on each patch ranged from 30 minutes to 4 hours. Completing a patch or finding the sweet spot is rewarding. Now imagine having to come up with something to pair with that sound that just sort of developed through experimentation or even just blind luck. It dampens the thrill and reward, because now you have a sound you need to pair with it, or layer with it. Most times I never felt like doing that. Just zero motivation to. In studio I do one layer at a time, chop it up to the audio parts I want, etc etc. Seldom am I ever using both layers in a production where midi is sent to both. So much extra work. Not alot of reward for me. Hydra for me always made for one great layer on a track (aside from just being my go-to enjoyment / entertainment synth). The more edgy "sound" / crisp tone to it always cut itself a lane in a track, but as soon as I ever added another from Hydra, things didn't sound too good. The sonic characteristics seem "harsh" and almost hallow sometimes, even after EQ and compression. But nothing comes close to the inspiration I'd get from playing sequences to get track riff and foundation ideas. Here's an example of a preset used in Ignition 2. I think it was Fly by Wire that I used for a remix back in 2021. Turned out great, Here's preset: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGTRdpR5mZKJntksi=XwTtFvh_XheAxlkk&t=1829 Here's the track: soundcloud.com/jameshigh/remix2-riley?si=98f926d1a4ea4056aa291507fb82351b&

Had my Hydra Deluxe for 4 months and sold it. It just doesn't sound that great. Considering it's all digital, it's like buying a really expensive VST, but doesn't sound as good. I ended up using VSTs like Dune 3, Hive 2, even Pigments and was using the Hydra as a midi controller. The filters can go to dog-whistle territory if you're not careful. So I have an OB-X8, a Minifreak and am looking for another Poly Hybrid. Considering the Novation Summit at the moment (not sold on that either). Might just bite the bullet and get a 3rd Wave and call it a day...

Sweet demo. I have an SCI Prophet VS and a Waldorf Microwave XT, this thing sounds very similar. Hopefully in the next release they will let you import your own single cycle waveforms.
Underwhelmed by the videos I’ve seen/heard of this synth … Sounds like a hybrid synth. And these were rather expensive, weren’t they? If so, it’s no wonder to me that Modal had financial problems.

I came for the comparison but that first track is an absolute banger hahaha I dunno why but the Super 6 just sounds like one of the best synths ever to me, and I've been in pro audio for decades, it just sounds "track ready" most of the time.

Waldorf Q is old tech, but quantum is a powerhouse of modern sound design. I don't know much about either. I haven't seen any impressive demos out of any Waldorf synth, and I despised the blofeld for the short period of time owning owe. In general Walforf synths seem cold and often uninspiring to me. So you're probably asking the wrong guy lol. I''m biased. just my 2c
