Just had to replace my 2015 Honda Civic transmission, cost me $8300, old one had 200,000 miles on it. I live in a mountain community here in San Diego, so there’s a lot of stress on the engine and transmission going to work every day, which is round-trip 60 miles a day.

I'm a mechanic so I wouldn't mind maybe picking up a car at a discounted price and replacing CVT transmission that has failed to get a bargain. But I don't like the feel of CVT transmissions either. But the fact is cheaper production costs are going to be the new norm.

okay so i got it. You don't like CVT Transmissions. To each their own. 🤔Thanks for the advice.

We consumers have gone horsepower wild . At about 250 hp . was okay , people want the highest hp they can buy. CVT are not able to take hp stomping acceleration. They don't do well with turbos and towing.

Better stay away from them hyundai 2.4 GDI engines. I've had dozens towed into my shop with blown engines due to the low friction piston ring issues. Taking up to 3 months to get the new engine installed by the dealers under extended warranties implemented by a judge due to class action lawsuit. Kia's too!

Can't help but feel that both companies build & reliability peaked in the early 90's through to the early 2000's tbh. I am sure they produce modern vehicles that are also solid but the cost of modern vehicles now is astronomical.

I’m not gonna lie I used to be against these warranties. For example “cars” my customers 100 dollar deductible turned into 350. But we’re been dealing with this company for maybe 2 years , “pro guard” they pay out like no other. I just hope they stay in business with the way they pay out without hassle.

We live in Asia about 6 months a year. People think Im crazy for never buying a CVT. They view them as “top of the line”….I view them as EXPENSIVE and unreliable! Keep giving me those manuals, and I can keep my car outta the shop.

Extended warranties offered by the CAR MANUFACTURER not aftermarket is the best. They DO PAY warranty claims and have the financial strength to be in business at the end of your policy and beyond. I worked for Ford Motor Company and Hyundai Motor America. I am retired now. Ford had an extended warranty program as did Hyundai Motor America. In these cases, you would return your car to a Ford or Hyundai dealer for evaluation, warranty claim processing, vehicle repairs and often rental assistance. I worked in the automobile industry 40 years. I also worked for an aftermarket extended warranty company. They were fair and moral with their customers and we paid a ton of claims. But, that extended warranty company ended up going bankrupt after I left. Bottom line. Only getting one associated and backed by a car manufacturer is the best way to go and in my experience is best. Also, you have experts on Hyundai cars since you have your car under a Hyundai plan, at a Hyundai dealer with a Hyundai technician and a dealer submits the claims direct to the car manufacturer. Clean and direct. This gentleman seems to relaying stories about aftermarket extended warranty company’s. Some are questionable but that is true in any business.

I was having a misfire on cylinders 5,6 and 7 of my 2005 SLK55 AMG. Compression test by Mercedes as there are no compression issues. I was told to replace my spark plugs, coils, coil wires, fuel filter and computer. Car sound and run great. No engine lights and no misfires. When I drive the car the engine light comes on. I can turn it off with the OB11 scanner, however, when I drive it the engine light comes back on. Could it be my transmission as when it shifts to 2nd gear the light comes on. If I drive slow the light stays off.

You are better off just buying a 2001-2008 Ford Focus and replacing the valve cover seal and the ball joints and keep driving.

We bought a Honda crv. The dealer said with this warrantee the only thing you have to pay for is fuel. A 4000 miles they said we needed new tires. No they aren't covered as well as brakes and the transmission isn't covered. My oil change and tire rotation is covered for 5 years. Guess what dealer we won't be going back to.

It’s simple, why would they sell you a warranty that they are going to lose money on? Don’t buy extended warranty’s, put that money into proper maintenance.

What's your opinion on buying an extended warranty from the car manufacturer, not an aftermarket policy? Short story, I had a Ford Explorer with an aftermarket warranty. Took it to the dealer, they diagnosed the problem, insurance rep guy says to put transmission back together so he can experience the problem. I ended up suing the Texas company and they paid my $4500 claim. Scumbags!! Subbed, you are awesome. LOL, too bad you aren't close.

Factory extended warranty is just fine, and can be an excellent purchase (cost me about $2K, and I warrantied over $4K in parts and labor). Never buy an aftermarket warranty, they are a total scam.

I have them on 3 of my cars and two have already covered more than I paid for the warranty. The company only pushed back on one item because it was described incorrectly by the dealer. They've covered steering wheel buttons, console buttons, window and lock buttons, seat heater, brake vacuum booster, alternator, starter, etc. 2 cars are serviced at the dealer and one at my favorite mechanic. Each has told me that my warranty company is easy to deal with, answers the phone and doesn't put them on hold. Obviously they don't cover everything like belts, fluids, shop rags, and sometimes they limit the diagnostic coverage, but I have been very pleased. They just covered the alternator on a car with 120k miles. Between the $100 deductible and my share of the diagnostic and uncovered items, the alternator replacement cost me about $160.

No longer accepting aftermarket warranties would send message to the warranty companies. Hopefully all shops would refuses to accept them. You can't work for free
