Brian has been in the automotive industry for 26 years. Today he will discuss why not every vehicle has a set list of what needs to be serviced when you first hit 100k miles on your vehicle. Using a 2012 GMC Yukon he will go over; What to look for, the research that needs to be done, and the first step you should take at 100k miles to ensure your vehicle lasts as long as possible with the least amount of substantial repairs.

The best preventative maintenance he could have done was to avoid buying a GM product. 😂

I went into a dealership for some specific maintenance. Service writer said that, based on the inspection, the rear differential fluid looked very dirty and they recommended changing it. I said I changed it less than 5,000 miles ago. They changed from "based on inspection" to "based on mileage" but the damage was done. I won't ever trust that place again.

I wouldn’t take any chances on how the vehicle was maintained before I bought it. For piece of mind I just change all maintenance items. This way I know what was done and it’s cheap insurance for me.

Had a 2000 Silverado 2500 with about 200K miles when I sold it. Dealer did all the service. At 100K, the dealer told me to not change spark plugs unless necessary. They would check them electronically. They only had to change one plug in the 14 years I drove it. Gas milage never changed and didn't burn any oil. My F150 ecoboost is another story....

Not a problem for me, but maybe they fixed it. I can hear music, but it's pretty low.

@100k miles I did my first oil change. Bought the car new. Idk but it isn’t running right after I changed the oil. I learned my lesson, don’t change your oil.

AT 100k miles make sure all the fluids have been changed at least once, especially coolant. Probably change the serpentine belt and possibly timing belt and maybe water pump with it.

all fluids also have time limts so eve nif you dont drive a lot, 6 years if i recall is times up for transmission and antifreeze fluids for example. brake fluid also absorbs water and has a time limit. power steering too if hydraulic and of course engine oil.

What do you think of the 23 honda 1.5 engines turbo
@robme3660
@robme3660 Жыл бұрын
They are probably going to be okay in a civic that is kept stock and not thrashed daily. I'd be wary of the Accord with a 1.5. They blow head gaskets due to the weak OEM head bolts way more often than the civics for whatever reason.

@@AmericanTrucker89 Change your oil every 3,000 miles or every 4-5 months, only use premium 91 or higher top tier fuel (Shell, 76, Costco, etc.) to avoid knock and pre ignition, always monitor coolant levels and change coolant every 4 years or so. Do all those things and your car should treat you very well for a long time.
@HH-le1vi
@HH-le1vi Жыл бұрын
@@josh8oh8 you don't need to change oil every 3k miles anymore. Oil and engines are far better now than in the past
@josh8oh8
@josh8oh8 Жыл бұрын
@@HH-le1vi True for not turbo cars. Turbos get really, really hot and can spin over 100,000rpm. The same oil that has to lubricate all the engine components also has to lubricate the turbo, so it takes a major beating compared to an N/A engine.

Just a recommendation, I think it would be best to just have the person speak but if you had to have something else, just have some shop music in the background, it sounds like I hear a beat and a song in the background, It’s just too busy IMHO.

Changing fluids is so cheap and easy I just DIY them. And don’t forget the belts and coolant hoses. I like the peace of mind v oh no on the road. Spark plugs? You wanna leave them in there that long let them get stuck? This is a great video but maintenance stuff is so cheap v fixing. Toyota has OEM stuff so cheap

What about 250000 miles now about 3 years ago l bought a 1997 Toyota Hilux no owners manual no service history at all and it does have a tow bar a genuine Toyota accessorie has a sticker on it that says that l don't use it but without knowing what has been done to it l have started a file on my Hilux and when l pass it onto my daughter when l can no longer drive l have serviced changed the ht leads the distributor cap and rotor button just changed all three universal joints put another radiator in it changed the disc pads l have a couple of other projects to do on it l have done about 15 jobs on it so far got more to do and l can tell its had an easy life and it has had a couple of optional extras fitted has working air conditioning has a non working cruise control and a radio cassette player and the tow bar these were fitted at the request of the original owner must have cost a small fortune because to fit the air conditioning the cruise control and the radio cassette player the dash board has to be removed k have changed the spark plugs twice
