It is brilliant to see these old ladies still working hard. I think they are the most beautiful engines that we ever had and the sound that they make on tick over and then revving up is just so cool. It is great to see them being kept looking so well all credit Irish Rail

IE are looking to Stadler now for locomotives. Will be pretty similar to the ones operating in the UK and continental Europe, I'd imagine. Hopefully, you preserve your 2 main locomotive types. I travelled on the enterprise service between Belfast and Dublin and thought at the time they were better than anything we had in the UK.

Pity so many lines were taking up in the past .It's now we really need the railways in Ireland to move goods and people. Great footage
@Dreyno17 күн бұрын
Even now we could be using what’s there better. Lorries are drawing timber up and down the country every hour of every day while freight depots are mothballed, timber yard sidings removed. Even the lines that were closed remain in public ownership and if there was any real intent to use them, they could be re-layed.

Belfast once more has a terminal station to be proud of. Just needs a splash of colour on the platforms IMHO. Seating around some raised flower beds perhaps? Watering 'em isn't going to be a problem, is it? Question: Pending reopening of Portadown - Armagh and The Derry Road (Enough excuses already ... just GET ON WITH IT!!), which platform does the RPSI have first dibs on for steam specials and charters? Any thoughts on the viability or otherwise of a reinstated Dungannon - Coalisland - Cookstown (maybe even on to Antrim) route?
@JamesyyxfefАй бұрын
Nah flowers will look goofy

The all island rail reviews recommends the Derry to Portadown and some others, but it’s decades away sadly, so there’s gonna no improvements on NI rail routes any time soon, if ever at this rate tbh

You would have thought that the Enterprise coaches and the locomotive would have been washed for the Opening Day. The generator van, in particular, is absolutely filthy.

Do they not have electric trains in Ireland?
@irishrailtrainsАй бұрын
@MobilAvenue_ The only electric trains in Ireland is the Dart (Dublin Area Rapitld Transit), which runs from Malahide/Howth - Greystones.
@TheHoveHereticАй бұрын
Nowhere near enough. The GSR (forerunner to CIÉ and IR) actually had some battery electric units way back before WWII. Designed by chemist Dr. James Drumm (a native of Co.Down who qualified at UCD), they operated the difficult route between Dublin's (closed) Harcourt St. and Bray, recharged the same way as modern battery buses (i.e. overhead pantograph connection to charger). Drumm ought to be a LOT better known for his groundreaking work.
@joshuaW5621Ай бұрын
