1:14:10 I actually found that better taps make it easier to cut plastic. But of course, usually you can't justify buying a 50-ish€ tap for a one time job :D Isopropyl alcohol works well as a coolant for tapping plastic.

Why don't you replace that short cable with one that's twice as long while you're changing the PCB out?
@crasbee5 күн бұрын
Depending on the type and speed of signals going through the cable, a longer cable might cause issues with signal quality. And with the original cable you can be sure that it'll be crimped perfectly and won't cause any issues. DIY ribbon cables can be quite error prone due to bad alignment etc.
@randycarter20015 күн бұрын
That component removal method works great when you don't want to save the PCB.

I have a hinged number plate on mine to hide the charge port(s). It’s just hinged at the bottom with neodymium magnets at the top. This was supposed to be a temporary arrangement while I sorted out some clever remote opening latch. But it’s been in place a year now and it works great.

Oh and on lights, I’ve been using ones from a company called LED Autolamps on mine and they’re a really good balance of price/performance and all standards approved. If you do need to swap your trailer lights out, worth a look.

Damien, we fit loads of RoadX where I work and there's nothing wrong with them. They're half the price of a premium tyre puncture if it's not repairable so always think about that before buying anything premium. Its the 80-20 rule, they're not a premium tyre, but I fit them to all of my own vehicles and family and friends. Keep up the good work 👍

Damien - In North America, we have "OSHcut". Open Source Hardware plasma cutting. There's also Send-Cut-Send. Both are companies that you can send files to, and receive cut and folded parts back, almost as cheap as just buying the steel yourself. Lots of DIY EVers swear by them. Probably not cost effective to ship to Europe.

I think that the trailer rear lights with these triangle reflectors are possibly not legal as car taillights. On cars the rear reflectors should be rectangular or round…
@GadgeteerFarm8 күн бұрын
I don’t think it’s ok to use lamps with triangels on them for a pickup, the triangle is reserved for trailers.

Damien - I do not have a Zombieverter. I have only loosely watched development. I hardly understand any of it. I'm nowhere near capable of contributing. But I could not find anywhere that any of these parameters are actually documented. So I edited the ZombieVerter VCU wiki on OpenInverter and started spamming in an idiot-level understanding of what you went over here. There's huge gaps, and hopefully others actually correct it and flesh it out, but, it's written down now and that's something I could at least do other than freeload. Also, your utter lack of consistency on variable naming conventions is maddening even for a non-programmer. "Mg1and2", "Mg1", "Mg2", "BlendingMG1and2" ... IS THE G SUPPOSED TO BE CAPITALIZED OR NOT? Random variables are all lower case, some are capitalized, some are camelcase. Just the whole buffet of standards, little from here, little form there. I ain't judging, those that want to can tidy it up, but it baffles me that it's not easier on yourself, for yourself, to have a consistent nomenclature. You walk a fine line between genius and insanity. Great stuff as always.

Wtf kind of comment is this?!?
@MattsAwesomeStuff8 күн бұрын
@@Tom-evnut - I've addressed this elsewhere, but to do it in this venue too, my post was: 1 - Telling Damien and others that I'd begun the parameter documentation. 2 - Warn people that my documentation needs review before trusting it. And that it could be improved. 3 - Tease Damien a little bit about inconsistent variable names, because Damien is good natured and can laugh at himself. I think sometimes people see a lot of text, and presume it to be hateful or aggressive. That was not my intention.

Is it possible to keep everything from a model 3 awd but just switch out the batteries for higher discharge/lower energy density packs? Mostly for weight savings and the ability to cram things into different wheel based cars.

Hi Damien. How did you go about, and whats is involved in getting the cars re-registered to pass the NCT and then to re-new as an Electric car for the Road Tax? I would have thought it impossible to do in Ireland? Perhaps a subject for another video? Many thanx
@Pats-Shed11 күн бұрын
I think Damien has mentioned it a previous video. I believe you should consult with an Automotive Engineer at the start of a project and find out what safety requirements are needed . When it's complete the Engineer will inspect the conversion and if it's satisfactory then you get a report to support this . You then complete the forms for change of details on the vehicle and return along with the Engineers report. Updated registration certificate is issued and then an NCT is needed to complete the process .
