I've come to realise after binging a TON of Dave Ramsey that he is an invaluable resource if you are really, really broke. If you have no savings and stupid debt like credit cards and a tesla you couldn't afford etc. he's got genuinely good advice for getting from that to being okay (less this student loan example, just pay off your bad debt). Then, once you actually know what you're doing when it comes to keeping the freaking lights on and you have 3-6 months of emergency fund, stop paying as close attention to him and learn how to actually leverage and invest money from someone else. His bankruptcy narrowed his worldview to about 1 inch wide and he's made some borderline religious pledge to never even touch good debt again. For smart people that's extremely stupid.
