New subscriber! This is such a great breakdown of the song, I’ve been looking for someone that goes into the chords during the solo. Your enthusiasm really shines through on this.

Hi Carl, can I get a tab arrangement of your heart breaker? I love that music too. I don't play that well but I just love it. Your brilliant! Thankyou so much.

Hello Good Folks. That riff was played by Brian Bassett. I went to Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA with Brian. He was a really nice kid and the first "famous" person I knew personally. Always got a kick out of that.

Will you do more of these? So many great Tull parts after 1971! Loved the video.

He has a loose, carefree style that is misinterpreted as “sloppy”.

He is not a good impovisationalist. He is one of those guys who has to prewrite solos and should not deviate from them. When he does deviate and improvise, it is quite dreadful. I like music on the other end of the spectrum, which is almost 100% improvisational, so for that reason, I think Page is overrated. They attemtped to improvise and stretch songs out a lot live because it was what all the cool bands did at the time, but when they did they often crashed and burned like a "Led Zeppelin."

Together y’all are nailing it! Spot on guys! Absolutely killing it, the depth of your knowledge and talent sets itself apart from others. Well done.

Beautiful production! Page's feel is so hard to recreate...like Bonham, so often slacking a little behind the beat, then rushing quickly to catch up... notes that you expect to fall on the beat then come a little after or before. Making the pentatonic scales sound very un-pentatonic so much of the time.

Started with Vol. 4 and never stopped to listen to them. Still my preferred one although I can hardly pick a preferred one among their first four albums.

Great job Carl! And one can notice you're a big fan too ;)! Must have been hard for you to select only 10 riffs among so many other good ones. Being a die hard fan I believe that Moving Pictures was a turning point in their career that have consolidated their style. However, my preferred one is Caress of steel. That one got me hooked on Rush forever. Besides, thanks for the good positioning of the camera. It made it easier for us to watch and learn the riffs.

This is so interesting even though I don't play any instruments. It explains just why Jimmy Page and John Bonham are the GOATS. Thank you so much.

Good stuff. There at ~21:00, talking about "just counting the notes"... in a lot of medieval music, there are no bar lines, no measures, no time signatures. You just play the music as written. It'd be nice to have some info on guitar and amp settings to get the right sound. I know from years of playing around that the double humbucker is pretty critical, but a new player would really (wait for it) ... Benefit.

Id venture to say that the majority of "Jimmy Page is a sloppy player" comments come post Eddie Van Halen. Eddie, Randy Rhoads, and a lot of 80s guys were hyper-focused on technique and lack emotion. Similarly, 10-year-olds post videos nailing Eruption now, but couldn't create anything near a Zeppelin solo out of thin air. As time passes, the view of an artist changes based on the context of the time the comment is made.

Good job on the riffs. The C# tuning on that SG though... you nailed the tone too.

It's interesting how Bonham's swing and the riff depart from each other and then reunite later on in the phrase, sort of like 'No Quarter' does. It's as if Bonham says "I'm just gonna do my own thing back here" and then it somehow just works out. Typical Zeppelin!

Virtuoso's all, but great entertainers first and foremost! Delightful surprises like 'The Wanton Song' and 'That's The Way'. Kills me to not be there, but the future awaits...

The thinking on "the sound becomes what your hands put into the pressure and attack pf the pick. That was what people said about EVH after so many tried to get his tone. It CAN`T be done. This whole "hands " thing began with Ed Van Halen, and that is a fact. That does not diminish Jimmy at all, it just proves the matter to be true once more.

Too bad that's not Jimmy because if it was it would be a hell of a lot better then that dude, that's not even close to the solo and it was different every time he did it live, Page was a studio guitarist, he was sloppy live!!
