I bought the new cirrus alpine a couple of weeks back, perfect for uk weather! I was concerned about down because of the care requirements and the performance in the wet (a UK staple). I can safely say im very impressed and would recommend.

Very helpful video ! Thank you for sharing. Can I ask you what a belay jacket is for ?
@tauntonleisure2 ай бұрын
Belay jackets are designed to keep you warm while assisting a climber as a belayer, where your role is to control the rope and ensure their safety. These jackets are not only warm but also feature a two-way zip, allowing you to stay bundled up while accommodating your climbing gear.

Great comparison, thanks! I'm torn between the Cirrus Alpine & Cirrus Ultra. Will replace my old down jacket and old synthetic jacket (Nano Puff) for the combination of everyday use, commuting (dry and damp conditions), walks/hikes (non technical light intensity) and last but not least to bring along my bikepack adventures. Living in the Netherlands so it's temp range is somewhere between 12 and -4 C. Any advice on which jacket would be the best pick? I'm leaning towards the Ultra because of better regulating abilities and 2 way zipper which is super helpful on the bike. Cheers!

Based on what you’ve described, I’d lean towards the Cirrus Ultra. It might be a little overkill for some occasions, but I think you’ll appreciate the extra warmth when you need it. You can always vent a jacket, but it’s much harder to add additional warmth!

@@tauntonleisure hi, thanks for the advice. I’ll write my findings down here to help future potential buyers. Went to a store that had both jackets. From a material point of view I think you’re right and the ultra is noticeably ‘softer’/ downlike. And while I aesthetically don’t like the 2 outside chest pockets, I think they are super handy - as is the 2 way zipper. However I did end up buying the Cirrus Alpine, and that’s because of fit. Everyone has a different bodytype, but for me and the kind of layers I war underneath my jacket, the Alpine was fitting slightly better. In the same size the ultra definitely is a bit roomier around the chest and waist. Anyway both felt like great jackets - happy with my purchase 😊

Very informative video, would you say there is any warmth difference between the Cirrus and the Ultra? Does the different insulation offer any more warmth, or just compression? Thanks in advance.
@tauntonleisure20 күн бұрын
We’re so glad you liked it-thank you for the kind words! 😊 The Cirrus Ultra is indeed warmer than the standard Cirrus, thanks to a bit of extra insulation (Cirrus: 232g vs. Cirrus Ultra: 247g) and the addition of Rab’s innovative TILT liner, which helps reduce heat loss for better performance in colder conditions. ❄️ Let us know if you have any other questions!

@@tauntonleisure That's very helpful, thank you. One other question which is a doozy - how would you say the Ultra compares in warmth (under the same conditions) to a RAB Microlight which has a 700 FP down? I expect the Microlight to be warmer, but I'm wondering by how much (I have a Microlight so I can use it as a comparator). I know this is a tricky question, but a general opinion would be great. Thanks again!

@@oracleocp The Cirrus Ultra would be warmer than a Microlight by a fair way.

I have the Cirrus Flex from last year and my only gripe is the lack of zipped security pocket, according to all websites it says the newer version has a ykk zipped internal chest pocket, but in your video you explain there isn’t one unlike the cirrus Alpine. Can you confirm this?
@chrishall43842 ай бұрын
@Hi, I managed to pop down to my local Rab supplier (Cotswold outdoors) and unfortunately the zipped security pocket does not come on either the cirrus flex or cirrus flex hoody. I will go for a midweight jacket like the cirrus alpine or microlight alpine jacket now. I think Rab needs to amend their website for false advertising. Many thanks. 🙂👍

Thanks for the reply. One final question, between the Rab nebula pro and Rab cirrus alpine which would be the better all round jacket for autumn/winter? Will the nebula be overkill? I like to wear my jacket over a t shirt on trips to the coast and around town. Many thanks.
@tauntonleisure2 ай бұрын
@@chrishall4384 Its a tough question to answer with 100% certainty as we all feel temperature differently so what works for me many not nessasarly work for you. That being said I would suggest that for UK conditions the Cirrus Alpine would be a more versatile layer. Its not as warm as the Nebula but that would allow you to wear it in more mild conditions then layer up for colder conditions making it a jacket you would wear more.
@chrishall43842 ай бұрын
I love the fit of both and normally like to wear a jacket without laying up unless I’m wearing a hard shell in rain. The new cirrus has bigger baffles thus more insulation to its predecessor and I wonder if it would be the better all round jacket, although I won’t be giving up my cirrus flex anytime soon which i love for this mild weather which we are currently experiencing.
