It’s mental that it’s unusual to have footwear that’s actually more human foot shaped. Good to see footwear manufacturers waking up to the fact, but most lasts are still too tapered. I suffered for years in all footwear but mainly walking boots. Tailors Bunions and Morton’s neuroma due to footwear that’s based around a tapered toe box, if you choose a ‘wide’ fit the entire boot often ends up higher in volume and unnecessary if you just need space for your foot to splay in the toe box. I ended up with a pair of Vivobarefoot boots(foot shaped, flexible, zero heal-to-toe drop) and eventually switched all my footwear to minimalist options after building up the lower leg and foot strength. Literally life changing, foot problems have completely resolved, along with fixing some back and hip issues, likely due to my pelvis now sitting neutral. Really hope we see more manufacturers making foot shaped footwear, but they don’t look as aesthetically pleasing on the shop display, so I imagine they’ll just keep pumping out what sells. My goodness, I think I’ve gotten onto a rant here. Take care 😆

Hi, I enjoyed the video. My friend has very long big toes and they get very sore on long walks, what type of boot would be best?

A good start would be a trail running shoe such as Nike Pegasus Trail 5 or Saucony Peregrine 14 or Merrell Agility Peak 5 - all 3 have gore-tex versions. And a pair of Darn Tough Run No Show Tab Ultra-Lightweight Running Sock 1039. As long as you dial in the fit and the foot is not sliding around, you will be golden.

It's tough to make a precise suggestion without measurements or images. However, we offer a free online footwear fitting service that I’ll link below for your friend. Alternatively, they’re always welcome to visit our store if that’s an option, though I understand that might not be feasible. help.tauntonleisure.com/support/solutions/articles/36000281919-expert-help-request
