there was this viral period accurate vintage photo of a german soldier holding a phone, it was ironically posted on facebook and some people genuinely believed it, indeed some fact checker websites had to step in to say it's a hoax

I think getting “authentic” glasses are unnecessary in a reenacting setting as the average spectator would not care about it. Sure it’s inaccurate to wear modern glasses but I’d would not throw flak at them for having modern lenses as prescription glasses are expensive $250-300 to be exact and going the extra steps to have it custom fitted to lenses is too much hassle for whats essentially a cosmetic like prop grenades or the like. What’s worse is that most reenactors would just use regular glasses anyway in their everyday life even when they had glasses that’s already proven to be more durable in an outside environment. If you want to buy vintage style glasses for the sake of reenactment that’s on you, but for me I’ll stick with the glasses I have until it breaks or I go to the eye doctor again.

How does this system compare to a modern rucksack? Has anyone used both?
@nomadmarauder-dw9re9 күн бұрын
The haversack is more for moving to a bivouac site. Unpack, set up, and pack up to move to the next bivouac site. The realities of modern combat highlighted the shortcomings of the system. The 1944 system went into development in late 42 and was tested stateside for about a year. Approved in 1944. Issued Stateside first, since new troops were going overseas and M 28 gear was already in use there. The new gear had an actual backpack and a 2 bag system like the Marine Corps had used since 1940. Between any of this and a modern ruck? No comparison. TBH, the M 28 seems more versatile. I would have used some kind of bag inside it, especially for light loads.

They've gotten that bad 😞. They began going down hill not long after being sold in the early 90s to HH Brown and production moved to Martinsburg from Stoughton Mass. I've owned numerous pair since 83 when I was in the Army. My original set I got in 83 lasted through three resolings before finally wearing out in some areas. The brown versions were from the original first couple runs by Stoughton in the late 80s, I still have one set of those. If you're trying to find a great set, keep your eyes open in different platforms, the older red label Stoughton versions still pop up and reasonable prices. Cheers

I am super farb right now man but I'm just getting into the hobby... And there are no units for U.S. WWII within 8hours driving time. Got me some original o.d7 leggings, and cartridge belt, type 2 service boots, original m1910 haversack dated 1918 nearly mint, original m1910 canteen, cup, and cover aluminum cap also 1918 wool trousers wrong ones i ordered what i thought were original M1937 butt turns out theyre brown m1952 one button fly one zippered fly, a shitty M1941 field jacket by mil-tech nothing is symmetrical on it and a Korean war steel pot, and a mostly correct Garand... Reciever is a 1953 production the rest of the rifle is 1941-44 Springfield and Winchester parts

@@theusgireenactorguide1830 the reason I was asking is I wanted to caption your lessons in reenacting to czech, I even contacted instagram of The Doc, but sadly got no answer :) Earlier it was possible to allow community contribution to the videos, though it might not be possible anymore, the only way on youtube now is if I could get the permission to manage your captions (effectively giving me a role called Subtitle Editor role or something like that), so I could create the subtitles. But I'd understand if thats not okay with you! kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5-ugItohcaEkLs

Huh, got mine from Amazon and they are pretty authentic, even coming with tags that date to the date of “making” depending on the shade of green. Cheap too for only $60 still being made out of the baumwolle cotton. With the 2nd pattern coming from rottennurg deutschland and the 3rd pattern coming from zwjpw.

Sgt. & SSgt also acted as platoon guide a.k.a. Asst. Plt. Sgt. Sgt being the Plt Guide prior to rank elevation of course & even so it was a lateral. The Korean war era 1948-1951 Blue on Yellow or "Goldenlite" were in two grades combatant & non. Also known as Mamie Eisenhower stripes due to their reduced size of 2 inches in width 1 inch shorter than the previous variety. & that fella sewing the 36th T patch looks like an original one too.

Absolutely love your work! If the internet had been a thing when I started collecting (and it wasn't), it would have saved me about $2000 spent on books! But hey, I love those books as much as the rifles and the gear. You have corrected one glaring mistake about the trigger guards. Thank you for that. You do have one more. The M1 Garand is named "after its MANUFACTURER, John C. Garand", you state. He is the inventor, not the manufacturer. He was a Canadian born, naturalized US citizen that worked for the Springfield Armory in Springfield , MA, on salary. Current branded Springfield M1 Garands available have nothing to do with the original arsenal (the first in the US, signed into operation by George Washington). They picked up the brand by registering it after the Arsenal ceased manufacturing in the late 60's, (yes, you can legally do that after three years of non-use). Keep up the good work, AND REMEMBER...!

Very informative video, but i have a question. I own a "euro clone" of the m1 helmet that i think is norwegian or danish. Is there any difference between the US M1 helmet and the european one regarding the shape of the shell?
@theusgireenactorguide18304 ай бұрын
Hey there! There are minor differences in the overall shape of Euroclones compared to authentic American WWII M1 Helmets. The rims especially are a tad bit more slanted compared to their American counterparts. There are always very subtle differences in variation between the euroclones, but the differences are definitely there. They also exclusively have rear helmet seams and swivel bales. Hope this was helpful!

I think soldiers DID cook food in helmets. But it was NEVER their own. Most likely they salvaged helmets from fallen soldiers to use as stoves to cook food or boil water in.
