One suggestion: Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. If that sled should get away from you and go over a cliff, or break through the ice and sink, or be carried off by a bear or a thousand chipmunks with really bad attitudes, you’d be screwed especially if the weather suddenly turns against you. I’d suggest carrying some survival gear in your backpack and put your pillow in the pulk. When I’m traveling, I stay at Candlewood Suites and my accommodations pale in comparison to yours lol

Awesome outing my friend. You're having way colder temperatures there than we are having here, it's slightly below zero, we have very little snow. Great meal, and lots of it definitely didn't need two rolls with it lol. A mirage at those cold temperatures is unusual I thought you only saw those in desserts lol. That's awesome that those Christmas lights and batteries have lasted that long. Merry Christmas my friend and a happy new year.

Heck yeah, looks like you're going to have a great night in the tent!! I'm also diabetic, among other things, and don't let it stop me. In fact, I generally feel so much better when I'm out than I do at home. Hopefully no one nabs your wood before you get there 😂 I have an awesome new stove that I'll be filming this weekend that I think you'll love. I won't say why yet, but I have a feeling it will be something you'll like.

Cut the wood on Tuesday. The rest of the week is cold. Going in on Saturday. The wood should still be there 🤞. I always bring a bit of hardwood with me anyway... burns slower and hotter. Gives me time for other things 😀. I'll have to keep an eye out for your new stove video.

Your video is just what I needed because I was about to buy a sled but was hesitating between the 45 or the 60. Now I know which model I need. And thank you for the tips on upgrading the sled-very useful to know. The sled I used on my last trip was not sturdy enough.
@Anndyinthewoods15 күн бұрын
Glad it helped. I went with the 60 because it fit in my SUV. If I had a truck I would have gone longer. The longer the sled the lower the load, less chance of it tipping over.
@PuskwaskaOutdoors16 күн бұрын
I have the same sled, I built poles for pulling mine with a 10’ length of PVC electrical conduit cut in half with the rope ran thru them, I attach them to a contractors belt with a couple cheap carabiners, this lets me use a set of trekking poles or a simple walking stick while pulling from my hip…. Lots of people want the minimal size sled when they start winter camping but a sled is a lot like a boat, the more surface area you have the lower the ground pressure and the higher it’ll float…
@Anndyinthewoods16 күн бұрын
I have been thinking of making a set of poles. That might be a project for another day. I need to find a good belt though. Thanks for watching!🤝

@@Anndyinthewoods If you have a Home Depot near by check out the Kuny’s 5” wide comfort belt 👍 It spreads the load out nice and takes some of the strain off the lower back.

Hearing your introduction made me remember winter warfare exercises with headquarters company back in the day. MWO Mark McVety would load down the headquarters toboggan with all the spares and extra fuel, extra rats just in case. So our toboggan would have a load with a high centre of gravity, and it would wallow and topple if we didn’t man handle it while two of us pulled and one of us pushed with the bars attached to the back of it. On the way out it would be lean and trim, on the way back all that gear would have it looking like Granny with her rocking chair and shotgun was all we were lacking. I still have nightmares about it over thirty years later! I like the handles you put in and as you described the blue tarp, it really put me in mind of those toboggans and their white cargo cover that we would fold over the gear to protect and keep it inboard while mushing that load. I saw your sled slipping from side to side a bit, and thought how I’d want a longer rope with a cross body belt ( think a thick leather belt slung from shoulder to hip that would let you put your shoulder and torso into the pull instead of your hands. I think you did a great job, and as much as I hated the experience you made me recall some good memories from the past, and my comrades who shared the load. Cheers!

Greetings from North Carolina 🇺🇸 Nice tutorial. I used to have JetSleds when I lived up north in snow country. I think JetSled has been bought out by a bigger company. The only thing I think I’d have done differently is not cut off the excess yellow rope. I think I’d have found a way to wind it back around the sled and wrapped it into/through the loop lines underneath the rail. My thinking is this, in an emergency situation, you’d have even more extra rope for maybe setting up a tarp or whatever it was needed for. You just can’t have too much cordage out in the woods especially in the winter months. When it comes to The Ten Essentials, especially in the harsh weather months, I’d rather have them (and maybe a bit extra) and not need them, than need them and not have them. I’m old and salty enough to be speaking from experience 😊 I liked 👍🏻 the video and subscribed with the 🔔

Glad you enjoyed it 😀. I always have extra cordage in my bag. I keep a ziplock bag in the bottom with a bunch of pieces of paracord 4 to 10 feet long an extra 30 foot ridgeline and a few 20 foot bundles. Thanks for subbing! Welcome aboard! 🤝

I have a similar Pelican Sled I use to tow my gear in not sure of the model its about six feet long on the top of the sled maybe two ...two and half feet wide. Came with a hitch for a snow machine , I usually have it full but really its a bit too big because I work too hard pulling it lol. Great way to put the line in , mine has a elastice canvass cover that pulls on over and as I type this I'm trying to remember where I stored it lol. Should work great for you my buddy looking forward to see the first use. Getting in shape to pull it is something I can relate to lol. Hope you have an awesome week my friend.
