I know it’s too late now but I would love to see a garden tour or pictures of Bruces’s house in the winter months when the annuals have died in the front. Love y’all!!! Mary B

I’m guessing Kathy is much more than a home gardener, maybe a life long career and education in horticulture?

Don’t laugh but I have a degree in business management. Have always loved plants and reading about the adventures of the early plant explorers. Had a greenhouse and sold plants for a year or two. Worked and volunteered at a botanical garden for a year or so. Basically I’m just a plant nerd.

Problem is we never know what rootstock was used, and in our case it's needs to be on a rootstock that can withstand z4, and it often isn't, but the label says it's suited for zone 4, same is true for Japanese Maples.
@kathyhornbuckle496613 сағат бұрын
I agree 100%. I have found that some mail order companies will tell me what the rootstock is. I am growing the same conifer on different rootstocks to see which rootstock produces the best plant. In reality most of the time I haven’t been able to do that.

12:34 Kathy mentioned that she had to root wash the trunk to find the root flare. Justin, you need to do a video highlighting this. I’m sure a lot of people wonder why their tree is struggling, they’ve been planted too deep. I hope Kathy has mapped out her garden to identify each specimen. Bruce, how many new specimens have you purchased since this visit? We’re going to need another tour of your garden!

1: Thank-you Cathy for sharing your garden!! 2: I so share the frustration with you about the B&B trees covering the flare by several inches - what the??? 3: 🏆 CAROLINA SWEETHEART 4: t-shirt idea with Justin’s motto - BECOME A PLANT PERSON! 🪴

Oh my goodness! I love her. This was a great viewing and learning opportunity. I am about 3 years from retirement and I want to be Kathy. I have a few pines… Occulus Draconis and Globe Blue Spruce Standard are my oldest at 10 yrs and 15yrs. They will be moving with me next year 😊 I’d love to know what profession Kathy retired from.

I love your videos! It would be great to see a series on what to plant with the spreader yew plants. I have similar yews (they were here when I moved in and I want to freshen things up). I'm trying to figure out good combinations behind that front layer of yews. (I was thinking Mountain Fire Pieris directly under my front windows-- but not sure what to put in between the yew and Pieris!). Cheers!

Spend $50 get wild flower wet seed, cast them out and contact your local bee keeper group… we all notice that Pollinators are moving or stressed. I am not a Human/Climate change person.. I AM A NATURAL CLIMATE CHANGE ADVOCATE.. we can’t fix.. we can adapt

Love you guys. I was very delighted to see a new video. I think that may be a Cunninghamia lanceolata except that plant was low growing. I’m having trouble finding it.

Justin, your content is great.. Love the variety and examples.. I'm in CT 6b originally from NC 8a. I'm on a quest to bring more unique and familiar specimens to our home in CT especially Crape Myrtle. Also thank Kathy for the walking tour, she is an encyclopedia of information. I couldn't remember everything on our property. BTW. that HUGE Whirlgig rainbow spinner in this video. It took me 2hrs but I tracked down the company Whirlgig World , sadly no longer in business, it was also sold on QVC in 2014.

To Kathy, Thank You so much for opening up your garden to inspire all of us! Can’t wait to see the fall colors! Nice work, Alex! 👏

You don't have to be sorry. Those products are the best I have found to get the job done. It takes about 6 weeks to alter soil ph. Thanks for tuning in!
