I was taken aback by Espen's take, I thought surely somone like him would understand the value in real in hand hardware.. hearing him say the VST is just as good was pretty surprising. I don't think I've even seen him use a VST 🤷‍♂️ with that said, he's able to have an opinion, however I feel like it was intended to go viral, I'm sure many who've watched his videos were pretty surprised as I was, but he's entitled to his opinion. Also, as somone who hasn't worked professionally other than what I relase on my own, it does not mean that unless you get paid you're opinion is worth any less. Personally I have a vast collection of gear, and the skill and knowledge to put them to proper use. While we may not have the insider tea, I don't think it would make my take any less relevant than any one else. Though, I tend to agree here with you, Espen does make some valid points and there is a subsection within our community of synth lovers who are totally on this side of the culture. We should encourage meaningful conversation vs attacks and name calling. I purpose you ask Espen to come on and make his case to you and your audience. We may not have the whole story from his perspective. I say this because that video came out of nowhere, and since he's had another spat with sequential over the Prophet X. He sounds frustrated to me.

Anyone know how Synclavier is properly pronounced? I’ve heard either the 3-syllable version, Sin-kla-VEER, with the emphasis on the 3rd syllable….from mostly Americans, or Sin-CLAY-vay-er, with the emphasis on the 2nd syllable…mostly by Brits! Which is the right way?

I saw 4 gigs on Frank Zappa’s last tour in 1988…2 at the Wembley Arena, one at the Birmingham NEC, and the last at the Ahoy in Rotterdam. I recorded them all on my Sony Professional Walkman, and still listen to them today! I remember at the Ahoy, when Frank was messing around on his Synclavier, getting all these mad sounds like crazy laughter, what sounded like a toilet being flushed, and various howls and whoops! He had an awesome sense of humour and of the absurd! And he sure knew his way around the Synclavier!

over 3 and a half grand though lets talk about the elephant in the room. the vast majority of musicians are flat broke and dont make a penny out of music so why do companies just keep the prices sensible. i guarrantee theres a vst version of this probably on my hard drive that sounds exactly the same.

All these complaints about the sound quality of this synth from reputable reviewers has me thinking maybe their reputations as reviewers aren’t well-deserved. Matt Johnson (a fine musician- no doubt), in particular, had me considering saving up for a P5/10 (a difficult proposition with my kids and insane TX property tax rates), but this demo has me considering just selling a few synths I don’t want and buying this outright.

It sounds nice but I’m just not sold on Roland’s new Zen Core stuff. The idea of partials is awesome and harkens back to the D50 (which is something they’ve always ignored when it comes to expansions...how is Digital Native Dance not a baked in preset for the new Fantom I do not know) but I also think it runs into a problem that a lot of workstation type instruments run into in that there’s no definable character to them. I look at some5ing like the Roland System 8. The most interesting sounds from that synth were from the native System 8 engine. I wish Roland embraced that but instead they insisted on constantly going back to the Jupiter, Juno etc in digital emulations. All the while we have actual analog synths on the market now. I just wish Roland would come out with a synth that’s unapologetically a synth...if it’s digital then embrace it as a digital synth...not a workstation or piano. Do something that is instantly identifiable as the D50 was with Fantasia or Digital Native Dance or the JD800 with Millennium.

@INHALTVIDEO

The zen core sounds and the way they work is more about the combination of several patches. The thing about the Fantom is how programable all the 16 parts are in terms of where they are played from the keyboard and how. The fantom can set up very quickly and easily very sophisticated splits and layers where multiple parts (and therefore patches) are happening either at once or at different points. And all the facilities for attenuating level and panning and key ranges are incredibly straightforward. The new fantom is about the sum of the parts and now with the acb synths you can add these to that architecture.
@INHALTVIDEO
@INHALTVIDEO 26 күн бұрын
For example, for the INHALT song commerce, when I play it live, the low end of the keyboard actually controls the moog subsequent 25 via midi, one octave above it is actually a stack of strings and the subsequent 25, one octave above that is the start of ACB Jupiter 8, and the very top end octave is the jupiter 8 with another different string sound layered. At times and with both hands im triggering 4 different synth patches some on the fantom and some external midi and to have the ability to set all of this zoning and key ranges and volume up very quickly and cleanly is what the Fantom is all about.

In a little favour of P1, personally, I enjoy more unstable sound of pro one some more. Although its a pretty hard synth to mix in wih many other more modern or at least more stable gear, without it taking space as a minimal synth or industrial machine. Even if its barely an 80s synth, made in 1981, its more ij the family of early Arps, Moogs and Korgs of the 70s. Sharp, rusty, mechanical, with elvish latern vibe on leads, with its classic CEM chips in all VCA VCF and VCa.,More Kraftwerk’esque i would say, then fuzzy 80s Rolands. Its especially evident in lfo modulations on filters and the snappy adsr of its time with a noise generator gives it so much character. Sound alone its i would say even limited sonically and maintenance may be slightly cranky but accompanied with outstanding sequencer and cv control shines its best qualities - pairing it with a triggering sequencer and drum machines and let creativity take you away, as its endlessly fun to use. Changing the keybed is a essential to get the most out if it. But for strictly for productivity purposes the toraiz will do work.
