Definitely worth giving a chance. Like my Moog Grandmother, it's quickly become one of my favourite synths because when you program with it, it's a bit more than the sum of it's parts; and didn't feel it's missing much, mod matrix is really nice and basic tone too. It's my favourite Sequential since the - I prefer it to the Pro-6 I had before, which never wowed me with it's basic sound for the money. With the Take 5 voices, rarely felt too small, because it's a rich sounding synth. And for not huge money - like the Peak, which it pairs quite well with as it has a slightly less rough sounding treble, and the vocal mid-range sits nicely over the Moog. This can also do nice unison basses too. One thing I don't like, my cutoff knob makes a mechanical squeek, like the sound of a tiny rusty robot mouse, when turned more than moderately fast. And some others are reporting similar slightly annoying extra voice feature.

The successor to the MophoX4. Really excited for this. It's almost like their Juno to their Jupiter if you get my drift. It's an excellent "complimentary" synth. What I mean by that is, it's a high quality synth that is for people who's main instrument isn't a synth. Guitarist can set this to the side and play a few chords or sequence while they jam along. I think they try to present it as "simple" for keyboardist and the too-lazy-to-learn producers. they seem to omit in the adverting the part about the "modulation matrix" that can make any "simple" synth to a very complex one, more complex then a modular synth or a 70s analog synth, especially when a built in poly sequencer involve. I'm waiting for the manual to see the list of source and destination and how much modulation matrix you can have but since we can already figure it does have a modulation matrix the take5 is much more "complex" then the prophet6/ob6

I think this is a good analog synth for the market. I would still tell musicians on a budget to try a DeepMind 6/12 as a good starting point, but this is similarly priced with a Novation Peak (with real VCOs rather than digital waveforms)--I think it's a great choice for people to have. Well done, Sequential!
@lookingforamuse3 жыл бұрын
NCO's aren't exactly bog standard digital waveforms though are they.
@PaulGBass3 жыл бұрын
Peak is a totally different animal. This is a more budget take on a prophet 5, with the wood and a few keys removed. The Peak is not a complete, giggable synth, just a module. Peak is more powerful with more modulation and more voices but less analogue. It's hard to compare synths, because unlike cars eg: Golf vs Astra vs Focus they aren't like for like. At a similar price point to this you've got: Hydrasynth, Prologue 8, MFB synth Pro, Dsi Rev-2, Peak. The nearest one is probably Prologue. Prologue has more oscillators per voice and in total. However it's weak on modulation with just one lfo, there's no aftertouch and no sequencer. Compared to Prologue, Take 5 probably has a better vintage sound, does have AT and has a polyphonic sequencer. In this mixed bag though you've got some synths that are really old school analogue VCO, some DCO, some hybrid, some pure digital but with great features like poly AT and a ribbon. Take 5 doesn't have a direct rival. Prologue is the nearest in terms of features and price. Prologue for me wins as a nice thing to have in the studio, take 5 looks more like something you could gig with. I can imagine a road worn T5 looking quite cool, but a battle scarred Prologue would just look like a tatty piece of damaged hi fi...

@@lookingforamuse i hope we see from the new DSI/NOvation merger, a hybrid synth with the continuously variable VCOs from DSI and the high resolution oscillators from the Peak. If you're looking for a Pro 3 with more voices, that's not what this synth is. It has the visual style, but the engine is pretty different. Not so much, at least in real life. Probably depends on how the programmer liked his sounds. It gets more brassic if you turn up the drive, could be that. But it very smooth without the drive; so it's flexible. The drive gives nice compression for high resonance sounds too, so I find it more flexible than the Prophet 6, especially with the awesome matrix and much better FX too are the icing on top. Though it's one voice less but I'm ok with that.. Had a Prophet 08 (original), and a Prophet 6 - which disappointed me a bit. But actually, I much prefer the sound of my Take 5. Won't be selling it. This sounds sweet! I've been waiting for a Sequential with VCOs and more modulation. I'm really hoping the oscillators can be modulation sources like they are on the pro 3. If not is there any way to do filter FM?

@@INHALTVIDEO I had the Tetra ever since it came out, I am now looking for an upgrade, I really like the split and layer of the rev2. A bit like you I am very much into the electro genre :) I just have a hard time deciding between them. The rev2 desktop will fit better into my studio space wise, but that doesnt really matter if the sound is not the one I am looking for. Any advice you would like to give? I mean I can hear quite a difference between this an rev2 already, this is much more analog sounding and seems to be able to punch though a wall. Btw, I spoke to Norand and there will come an update soon where presets can be adressed with an external sequencer :) I am looking very much forward to that. Keep up the good demos, I love them

Is there still a difference to the Prophet 6 soundwise (except the missing highpass filter)? Especially do the VCOs sound the same?

@@INHALTVIDEO Thanks! I am a bit upset as I've just purchased a P6. And this thing's got even filter drive, adjustable noise color and LFOs per voice. Also freely assignable LFOs and ENVs are pretty cool. So I wonder if there are any advantages in the - much pricier - Prophet 6 except some more keys. Can you tell if the LFOs go into audio rate and feature noise (additionally to Sample&Hold)?
@PaulGBass3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelous well the P6 has an extra voice, the nice build, more keys, responds to polyphonic aftertouch and MPE, neither of those last two are on the spec sheet for this one....
