I'm now 27 but I spent a year and a half when I was 21 dealing with an episode of mental illness. I've been on medication til now and am about to be med-free in a few days. It slowed everything down significantly, I didn't graduate until I was 26. Then the week before graduation I learned that I was autistic. Pandemic meant I couldn't start to learn to drive. Most of my friendships have broken down due to people not inviting me out - I dumped a guy due to the same reason. Quit my first job after graduation because the boilers malfunctioned and it was way too hot to be working in that environment. Became self-employed teaching piano and now I've been in my second relationship with a guy who does invite me out and plans dates.

Bro I quit college, traveled Europe, made some of the strongest friendships of my life, developed a mental disorder, lost those friendships, almost gave up (SI), went through therapy, came out a new person, rejoined college, changed majors, have an actual career path now, made new relationships again and love myself and life again. I'm not even to 25 yet... I feel I've aged more in my early 20s than I have my entire life if that makes sense. The 20s imo is when you start figuring out who you really are, don't be afraid if its different than who you thought you were or what you were suppose to be. I thought for the longest time life ended when you were 21, turns out for me it started there.

Max, I am English, 75, retired, I have worked hard worked hard but was never encumbered by that punishing North American work ethic. I like to keep in touch with other generations and am greatly helped by my own grandchildren but have also been blessed by young KZbinrs such as yourself who so generously share your experiences. I am very impressed by what you already have achieved with your channel and online marketing but worry that you are so busy and motivated that you have not yet taken the time to sit back and smell the coffee. Your generation faces an uncertain future and things will become much more challenging in your own lifetime. Maybe now is the time to buck the expectations which you place upon yourself and go travel the World to sample very different cultures and ways of living. What would a successful life look like to you. What will you regret on your deathbed if you have never done. I wish you all good fortune

ahhhhh i relate to this so much! i'm 19 and i'm starting uni in around 3 months (took a gap year after graduating HS at 18) and i've been thinking about all these things! this December i'll turn 20 and i still feel 16 lol. i feel like so much time has gone by in covid that mentally i am still stuck in 10th grade. it's honestly so hard to wrap my head around the fact that i'm starting med school,i'm entering the decade in which i will experience most of my life's biggest learnings, achievements , breakdowns, first love, responsibility and what not! somewhere at the back of my head i am afraid i'll lose my 20s as i'll be consumed in med but maybe these may as well as become the best years of my life. maybe the 20s are overrated, idk. but what i do now is, i'll survive just like i survived the last 19 years on this planet, and it will all be worth it! thanks for the amazing introspection Max!

Although I'm only 2 years older than you, I sympathize with how daunting turning 20 seemed. In my experience so far, your 20s can be really hard and confusing, but they can also be so full of love, better understanding of the world, and change both negative and positive. Your 20s make you realize how quickly time goes and that can either scare you, or make you appreciate everything you have right now. I sometimes wish I was a kid again, but then I realize how many cool things I've done as an adult and all of the amazing people I've been able to meet on this crazy journey. The only constant in life is change, so I don't pretend to know what I want to do with my life, I just ride the wave and it always works out in some way or another. "... stepping into the real world... fear and excitement.." That's exactly what I'm feeling rn. Finished highschool in 2021..(a couple of inconveniences).. joining college this year. I'm turning 21 this December and I feel so behind schedule lol, but at the same time I feel like I'm not ready for the world out there. It's like I'm looking forward to the freedom and adventure but still scared of anything that might go wrong. I felt the same about turning 20. Now I’m 26 and I feel the same anxiety about getting closer to my 30s. It’s crazy how we tend to feel like every decade we need to have reached some goals, some checkpoints to keep a good pace in the race of life. Sometimes not getting those things done may make you feel like you’ve failed. But this race is different for everyone and those expectations we have are most of the time not really worth it. I can say I’m still figuring everything out and will always have something new to figure out, actually. I also tend to think about things I wish I had done better but there’s no way to change them now too. All your past as a teenager and all your life experiences have shaped you into who you are today and that will remain with you forever. But also many new, good things are coming your way and I think that’s what makes life truly interesting. And it may sound cliché, but there’s no better thing than being open for change and enjoying where you’re at this moment. Everything will fall into place eventually

i turned 20 just a week and a half before you did. i felt the exact same way, you said it perfectly with 'it feels like the training wheels are coming off'. i talked to my dad about how i was scared to turn 20 because i wouldn't be a teenager anymore. i will be grouped together with 29 year old who i feel i have nothing in common with. he said i haven't been a teenager for a couple of years but i myself did still latch onto the 'teen' in nineteen. its been 1,5 months into 20 now and, not necessarily of my age, i've felt so free. this past year i have really come to realise how much just a year can do. i thought i knew myself and the world when i was 17 but here i am just 3 years later and i feel like an entirely different person. i still don't know how i feel about turning 20. i get overwhelmed very quickly when i think about it and about how time moves and theres nothing we can do to stop that. im excited to look back on me now in a couple of years and maybe see that i was just making it into a bigger thing than it needed to be, but that's fine. it feels big right now. i hope i can bring 20 to life too.

I really enjoy hearing your reflections on life as it encourages me to do the same! I just turned 19 and while I totally get your point of "Once you're 20 you feel like an adult", I have to say that it really depends on your culture. I moved out of my parents place for university like 9 months ago and live in my own place full time. I still feel like a kid sometimes, the impostor syndrome is real, especially since my flatmate is like 13+ years older than me and has all that life experience. I want to do some big thing for leaving my teenage years, like take a trip or something like that, but I doubt that is going to happen, as my birthday is right when the semester starts in Spring (beginning of april) and half of my friends study at different universities from me. I feel like my twenties will be when I finally get my life together (Moving towards that now), get my degree(s), get a job and maybe buy a house and move there, but it all seems so far away, like, it's still 2.5 years (roughly) until I have my bachelor degree, but at the same time it is only a bit over two years. That's how long it was from 10th grade (when I turned 16) to graduating Highschool... It always seems like a long time, but now I just spent 9 months or so building a new life, making friends, learning new and interesting things, building relationships, healing, getting to know myself and time just flies by so quickly. The semester feels like it just started, and in a month I will start preparing for exams again. It's crazy.

Whoever told you that being in your 50s is the best time of life is full of it. Twenty is still young enough to make friends easily and have time for the type of adventures you craze. As you age, and responsibilities take hold, it's harder to make friends, everyone is busy all the time, and people lose their sense of humor., Trust me, I know. I always enjoy your videos and what you have to say even if you rarely address questions that are posed by your viewers (like why Santa Clara U.?)

That's the crazy thing is that everyone has a different answer as to which decade of life is the best. I've heard many people say their 50s or 60s were great. I've also heard many people say their 20s or 30s were the hardest time of their life. I'm only 22 so I guess only time will tell for me personally, but I try to stay optimistic for the future.

hi Max :) my name is Leo and i'm an italian 19 year old boy, I'd like to hear your brief opinion on my situation as you really seem like a nice guy... in June 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, I dropped out of my high school where I had spent 3 years.. bad years in which I was often bullied and I couldn't deal with the boys and girls in my class .. I was discriminated against or simply mobbed for no apparent reason.. I still can't figure it out today... I spent my fourth year in DAD, due to of the pandemic, in a private institute where I regularly attended lessons... I was starting to feel better, I was able to follow perfectly and also get good grades, I really worked hard. At the end of my school year, I decided to move to a state classical high school in attendance, I felt ready to start over, i could finally go back to school!! I lasted about a month.. on the bus to go home I was bullied again by some kids I didn't even know.. it seemed absurd to me! I found myself reliving what I often experienced in my three years, exactly the same things! that time I was paralyzed .. the kids vaped me like with an electronic cigarette on me for the whole trip back and I couldn't react, completely blocked by fear .. they laughed .. so, heartbroken, i transferred to my old private school and spent the semester of my fifth year in DAD...studying completely on my own...now I graduated from July...in the summer I had so much fun, I met so many old friends and so many new people that for a while they ''brought'' me back to normal...started the university of languages after a few months I abandoned it as partly not interested in the subjects of study, but above all because a constant thought afflicted all my days: that of having lost my ''ADOLESCENCE''.. that of not having made important friendships in high school and that of not having been and done enough, of not being ''normal'' like the rest of the other college students.. that of not having worked hard enough, not reacting when I was teased.. it all went by so quickly.. I have remorse that constantly grips me in a state of hallucinating sadness.. the fact is that I'm not even the typical bullied kid movies.. i'm tall and blond, green eyed, sturdy and don't look ''bad'' at all generally.. i've always been turned away and i can't figure out why.. I would love to be able to recover what I haven't done up to now but I'm afraid I can't do it anymore because of my age, because of that time that has now passed, because of those days of this last semester that I should have spent in the school desks with beautiful people by my side and living many beautiful experiences, not alone .. I will no longer be able to do this stuff .. I don't know what will become of me.. if it's worth going on.. now I have nothing in my hands.. just a stupid diploma that I don't even think I deserve.. few friends with whom I feel very little, few interests..i am just loosing my time staying home without any expectation.. I really like photography, cinema and the world of music, but i don't know what to do with those interests.. I'm losing control... I don't think I ever had it :(

Don't stay home. Go out and get involved in the things that you like to do. When you do things that you enjoy doing, you will meet other people who also share those interests. That's how you meet interesting people. If you can afford to buy a decent fotocamera, start doing photography, and try out various approaches to making pictures. Stop worrying about the past. You can learn from the past, but you can't ever go back and re-live it. Plan for the future, but don't waste too much time worrying about the future, or the present. Find a job and work - it's good for the self-disciple and it will pay you some money that you can spend or save.

I think you'd make a great photographer/youtuber. Also, enroll in photography, cinema, or music university classes. Pay for it by working a normal job. I also have been bullied and missed out my entire life. Still do in university too. But, I am accepting of it and don't worry much about it. Placing goals in place like I want to interview in several jobs and get accepted and work for a view e.g. becoming a model photographer... for a small brand, and then upscaling from there is a good start. Wish you well brother. I have supportive sisters, a few hobies such as actually enjoying what I am doing that have kept me from losing myself into the dark past. So, do the same work on your hobies, find an external sister, or friend. I got into friends by simply doing out of my comfort things. I got laughed at and teased, but also got some better friends because of a few. It is a hit and miss, an error and trial. You are still too young. I am 20... My experiences are similar if not worse than yours. But, I believe that we do exist and are more common than we think we are. Many of us can make it, and so can you!🫂

But in order to “figure things out”, one needs to learn their deepest needs which takes a strong understanding of the self. One of my deepest needs is accessibility to vibrant culture. I am 22 and studying in Vancouver. I'm self-employed and have been with my girlfriend since I was 15. Looking back, I feel like I was 22 when I turned 16. I never questioned the future because it's just part of my nature to see things more positively. And my raw model is my father and his accomplishments in life. My brother is studying in Pasadena and moved to California when he was 24. At 25, he became a father and got married. He asked my girlfriend and me to be godparents to his two sons. But it was this that got me thinking about possibilities of my/our future I never thought of before.

Wow. I just saw the yt video in my recomendations and i gotta say that u are creating a new better level in the internet. Your content is so inspiring and different than others. Keep going ! Im also gonna turning 20 this year but im fighting with myself inside about my decisions. One part of me wanna be safe and go to college but the other part want to travel and fighting with my sadness heart and also to believe in myself. I saw recently that being positive is a choice. I love dropping in and out of your videos, it feels like I am getting a life update from a much younger friend. Every decade is different (it is interesting that in many cultures, 21 is the age of adulthood!). If you happen to fall into a relationship (and don't fear if you have several in your 20s), one of the common feelings is being childlike in that relationship. In every decade, you can still be childlike, don't lose it.

I went to 2 different schools, left college, worked so many different jobs, went back and forth from different apartments, still haven’t traveled much yet. sometimes, even though I have accomplished a decent amount, feel I’ve done nothing. I’m 25, I have so much I still want to figure out and do!!

Wow the first three minutes of this film are beautiful. Also I'm going to venture a guess that you're going to camp in Marin...? Yes, 20 does feel much older, it feels like this is the decade where if you want to be a young entrepreneur, you have to make something big happen. I feel like I'm going to start to feel age pressure once I turn 20, because it no longer feels like I'll be a kid anymore :) I love the shots around three minutes of the b-roll, and then the video of your friend filming. Achooo, bless u :))) Also I know this road... someone's driving up highway one! You can make the argument that any phase of your life defines the rest of your life, but I do agree that the 20s, on average, feel like a sort of tipping point- being that you have the bulk of the years of the rest of your life left, while also having a decent amount of knowledge and motivation for the future. different noodles :D muir beach!! hmmm 20 no longer feels like a test, but the actual performance- like there are no do-overs anymore, because you started the run. 7:57 *whack* 13:35 twins fr.
