Why do you pulse the trigger on the screw gun? This looks like a great jig for a tool that is basically a complicated jig. So it's a jigs' jig. I want one. If I ever get my workshop back, I'll get to work on it. (My workshop was stolen. It's a long story. The moral is to hire a contractor with many good reviews regardless of him being friends with the family. And don't under any circumstances pack up your garage and place it in a storage container while he rips off the roof of your garage knowing full well he spent your truss money on a Disney vacation. Because then it'll snow in your garage and you'll have a workshop packed into a storage unit in your driveway for over a year. This it's why I don't watch woodworking videos lately)

The issue I've run into and the reason I am rewatching these videos is because I made Dovetails on a 7.25" board, and I couldn't get the pins to match the tails. Do I have to flip the templates over to ensure I always cut with the "outside" up? I feel like I must be doing something wrong, since I am filling gaps.
@KirkHaselden
@KirkHaselden Ай бұрын
The trick you describe for cutting variably spaced dovetails works great for the tails, but when you cut the pins, it doesn't work because the way you have to cut both ends of the pin board it won't be oriented correctly. The spaced side of cut at the top on one end will be on the bottom of the other end. Do you just cut the two ends of the pin board and then move the template an equal space on the other side for the other end of the pin boards?

That's essentially the method we use. We describe it in more detail in the How-To Guide.

That black lock down knob will rotate out when you operate the machine with the jig. Maybe a little red locktite?
@macsheldon
@macsheldon 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your note. We haven't seen them loosen, but if you notice the knob turning while using the PantoRouter® in this mode, I'd suggest a piece of tape to hold it. Locktite isn't recommended as it would affect the operation in the normal (much more frequent) mode.

...how do you make sure the depth of each of the compound mortise is the same length?
@macsheldon
@macsheldon 7 ай бұрын
There are a number of ways to set stops on the PantoRouter®. We have set them off the back of the workpiece and of course the Swing Stop is terrific to set off the front. The depth gauge is set to make each mortise and tenon the depth and length you choose. If that doesn't answer the question, please let us know and we can setup a video call so we see your workpiece on your PantoRouter® and offer suggestions. Happy PantoRouting!

I must say what a great project and also how much I have admired your ingenuity in coming up with the amazing PantoRouter because it really is so very clever. If I didn’t already have a Router Boss then I’d be drooling over on of these tho truthfully I’ve been drooling over your machines since I first saw the concept when one of my favourite, at that time, KZbin woodworking teachers, must be about ten years back now, who copied your design and built one out of wood and such and I was amazed at the ingenuity of your machine back then just as much as I am now. A very, very clever concept made real and you deserve to be very pleased with yourself and thank you from all of us out here that buy and use such clever machines as yours and the RB, we all learn and become better woodworkers because of your generosity and inspiration so thanks, really appreciated, thank you. Oh, and thank you for such a detailed examination of the process with which you have made your mallet, you’ve given me just exactly enough information of the steps involved that I can now go nick your idea and make one myself with the tools I have available lol sorry, hope you don’t mind too much lol but just like when watching a “stumpy nubs” project, you show the steps so clearly and simply that most anyone should be able to copy what you have done and again I thank you for that. A wonderful and very illuminating lesson in extremely fine woodworking so thank you again.

Should a person get pantorouter or shaper origin.
@macsheldon
@macsheldon Жыл бұрын
Really depends on what you want to use it for. The PantoRouter® is fast, accurate, dependable, reliable and safe to use. It makes mortise and tenon in over 150 sizes up to 2.5" long, perfectly fitting and super fast. It also makes box joints and dovetails, plus dozens of other joinery and surface shaping operations. The Shaper is great for engraving and small projects but it's not a true joinery machine capable of full-size mortice and tenon, box joints and dovetails, much less the other operations done best on the PantoRouter®. Hope this helps. If not, give us a call. We're happy to chat woodworking!

The PantoRouter can easily make 6" wide tenons. The length of the tenon is dependent on the length of the bit and 6" would be too long. We have customers who cut 4 and 5" long tenons, but usually it's not necessary to get an extremely strong M&T joint.
