Heading to Tokyo tomorrow. The timing may not be ideal, but I'm tagging along with my wife who's on a business trip. So, no matter what the weather is, it's my opportunity to go. It's 100 degrees F here and super humid - pretty awful here in the US, so it's already miserable. Perhaps, I will look for indoor shopping malls to escape any rain or bad weather in Tokyo, at least temporarily. I've heard that food courts in malls are pretty good.

Legitimate businesses will show prices upfront. No price, no deal! Don't follow touts offering cheap drinking opportunities. You will find actually cheap drinks in most bars and some people there won't mind chatting, be respectful and gauge the situation. To avoid being scammed, cash is king, leave your credit card in hotel. If it's not possible, use a low limit CC (if you don't have one, withdraw enough onto your bank so the limit remains low). You always have the option to snap the card in your hands too, don't forget that. Never, ever hand over you passport.

Nao is definitely right about the weather in Japan being very different than other western countries. I recently came back and the rainy weather season is no joke when it shows rainy days. And dealing with that along carrying a luggage and umbrella makes it quite not so fun. Am considering visiting back next year so trying to see which dates are best and ones to consider avoiding. Thanks for the tips

Visited Japan in Autumn and had the most stress-free time ever. However, I would like to visit in the summer. Already did the tourist hot-spots on my first tip. So for the summer trip..I was thinking of a more laid-back itinerary exploring small villages, beaches and other coastal areas in search of that Ghibli vibe. lol. I don't know if I'll find it,..but watching Japanese animes and listening to retro Jpop songs always makes me want to experience a Japanese summer since many songs and movies seem to romanticize it.

VERY TRUE! Visiting for 4 months every year for 10 years. I always avoid July and August. But I live in Seattle so it's not the rain I'm avoiding. It is the HEAT and HUMIDITY. I'm here NOW and it's 22 June (Shinjuku). Yesterday was rain all day. Today is beautiful. Tomorrow is forecast to be rain all day again. The biggest headache I have during rain days in Japan is trying to get a taxi. (^.^) Even the apps get overloaded. Regardless, Nao is correct. Follow his advice. (^.-)

thank you for the advice, Nao! I have a question about going to restaurants, as our family (4 adults) wants to try as many restaurants as possible, but if we always order 4 sets of meal or ramen, etc, we will end up only be able to eat at one restaurants as a time. what my family usually do in other countries is we may order 2 sets to share for 4, and then go to other restaurants and have another 2 sets. But I have heard that in Japan, it is impolite to not order according to the number of guests going in. May I ask what's your advice on this?
@JapanwithNao3 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching😉 As you said, you are not allowed to order fewer menus than your number of people in most restaurants, especially Ramen restaurants, so the best way is to go to a restaurant that has a variety of menus! If you want to try a variety of food, you should go to Izakaya pubs in Japan. They have a variety of menus👌 Family restaurants in Japan are also a good choice! But not menus, but if you wanna try to eat in a different restaurant, hum...you may need to eat a lot simply...😂

Nice advices, but don't forget that Tokyo could also be used as a base to day-trips to other locations as well (Kamakura, Ehoshima, Yokohama, Nikko, Kawagoe, Todoroki Valley, etcc..) and it is important because moving luggages and changing hotel every night or so is also very tiring and confusing... In my upcoming trip to Japan I will make Tokyo my base for a lot of days (12 days in two stays, one shortly after landind and other just before departing) and travel in the vicinities some days. Latest days will be dedicated to short trips inside Tokyo AND lots of shopping and buying (to avoid carrying things around all over the Country).... I think I will buy something "touristy" only in Kyushu and then send the things back to Tokyo (for the last leg of my travel) along with my luggage (using Yamato - Kuroneko).

Thank Nao for another great video. I'm wondering... have you ever made a video about the AVATAR ROBOT CAFE? It is a Tokyo cafe where the robots are not AI but are piloted by disabled people all across Japan. For example, the robot that takes your order is a person in Okayama suffering from muscular dystrophy. The person that delivers your order is in Aomori bedridden with spinal atrophy. It's amazing! I think your channel is a nice "fit" since you highlight what makes Japan unique. This is the only restaurant, in the WORLD, where the robots are actually handicapped individuals that can't leave home. This way, they can end their loneliness as well as feel productive in society.
