Alien Romulus- How To Reboot The Franchise (Review)

Alien Romulus came out over a month ago, and I'm still blown away with how good it ended up being.
The Alien franchise has some hits (Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus), some misses (Alien Resurrection, Alien vs. Predator), and some mixed bags (Alien 3, Alien Covenant), so when they announced that Fede Alvarez was taking over the franchise, I was naturally a little skeptical.
But after watching Alien Romulus, I am confident in saying that this is the perfect way to reboot a franchise (I would say take notes Disney, but they made this one too so...)
Here is my late review of Alien Romulus (unless we are talking about the VOD release...then we are closer to not being late).

Will agree the visuals were fantastic and going back to the use of much more practical and animatronic effects with CGI rather than all CGI is great, I hate hate hate cgi people especially cgi dead people.

Agree with most of your points and loved the movie, but the clip you keep using while describing how the CGI for the end humanoid monster took you out of the movie is actually of a person in a suit/makeup. Parts were certainly CGI, but a lot of that creature was in-camera.

I don't understand why people say this movie was "just a reference movie" and even compared the dialogue to the MCU, what movie did they watch?? There's only like two lines in the entire movie that felt a bit overindulgent to me, Andy's bitch line and then the "I prefer the term artificial person" one, both of those felt a bit "Hey you guys remember Aliens?" But the rest of it just felt like normal in-universe dialogue that can and should happen. I don't understand why people think a movie in a universe should never ever reference anything in it, people talk about shit that's common in their worlds. To say this movie was just beating you over the head with constant references is complete lies unless you're boiling down everything in to being a cheap reference when it's just...how the world works. The old fashioned computers aren't a reference to Alien they ARE Alien, for instance. Something part of a universes entire aesthetic is not a "reference" Great film anyway, easily my third favourite in the franchise.

about the cgi, the only thing that looked weird was rook with the face of the dead actor, in my opinion the offspring looked fantastic, specially because it was also made with special effects and not cgi, they hired a dude that is 2.30 meters high hahah

😂 yea man a ton of kids can beat all the aliens. Spinning around a zero gravity death spiral of Zeno morph blood. Totally believable. This is the exact same scary aliens that I was terrified by… Lolz

I'm not sure why this is called a reboot when it takes place between Alien and Aliens . I liked Romulus enough to rank it the 5th best in the series. It has a tons of issues. The opening shot makes very little sense. and the movie plays like a greatest hits compilation and a wild 3rd act that seemed to be rushed and tacked on for shock value. Pretty good but far from being great .

It isnt and i domt know how he didnt come to that conclusion when he put set clip of the dude in the suit IN This Video.im sure there are some cg enhancments but its just as practical as the rest of the film

So best way to 'reboot' is to basically take everything that people remember from previous films then use a LLM bot to connect them together into your new film? Sorry i am a huge Alien fan but this film was just not what people are cracking it up to be. Pros; Visually its stunning, the beginning starts really well with an interesting story and characters, the actor playing the droid was fantastic, and it had all the feeling of an Alien franchise film. But beyond that this was a shell of an experience imo. It was a film full of old film mentions, sometimes done completely incorrectly. Like "get away from her you $^&**" out of context and missing the point of its first use. Fans need to stop just saying something is amazing because it reminds them of old films and looks beautiful visually. This film would have been so much better if they just focused on being a heist film with Xenos and kept it at that.
