it still is gender neutral in contexts where specifying gender wouldn't make sense, also in very formal contexts. but people will always choose to forgo reasoning if they have a chance to get angry at nothing. ignorance also doesn't help.

You admit that language is formed by the present day usage, yet you encourage people not to go back to the gender neutrality of old. You give off easily offended vibes yet you want to keep our language on the trend of polarization? Do you WANT to create problems?

there is no reason to pretend the people in the past were sexist. that is a driving factor for modifying the language, pretend the old people were jerks.

Like i normally go for a sweet, nerdy, weirdo (but in a good way ) type of guy. But when i read twisted love my heart was stolen by alex volkov. If he was a real life person and if i was ava. And if he says u belong to me i would be like f*ck u i don't belong to anyone than me. But that doesnt stop him from being my number 1 book bf so far

You know that in all the Lord of the Rings movies there is only ONE sentence spoken by a woman to a woman? And it is the mother's attention to the child

I wish we still used Wereman, maybe analogized like woman from Wifman to something like Erman, Urman or Arman. We could have Where-men (male), Why-men (female), and Who-men (human) lol I was planning a conlanging project where human roots could be masculine, feminine, or neuter and there's a set or few sets of affixes for changing the word's gender. Some words might have multiple roots with the same underlying meaning but different base gender, although they could behave the same way. Context might determine if using an affixed form is appropriate or if a root form is more appropriate.

You think that's bad, his only female character who defies tradition, Eowyn, finds happiness by accepting tradition and becoming a housewife. Don't get me started on his stupid catholic religious beliefs. The whole part about the creation of Arda, the nature of Evil and free will comes straight from the Bible and it makes no goddamn sense.

Men/man is still a gender neutral term when referring to humanity or a group of individuals with mix genders. It only becomes a problem when a person has an irrational hatred towards males.

I think as long as at least one you say "race of men" or something like that, I think it's clear what men is meaning and can still be used. It's not that big of a deal

Most people understand the context when you use "men" in a gender-neutral way. It has nothing to do with sexual gender or grouping male individuals. So when you say "most people assume," you're only talking about your conception. It is much more inefficient and segregating to say "men and women" when referring to the entire group of humans.

Most people don’t assume that, certain kinds of people do. I get where it’s coming from as a woman, but male nouns being gender neutral has been a thing forever and it’s used everywhere. There isn’t really a point in changing it because the only people who want that hate men for some reason

I like using guy as a gender neutral term(there aren't many good ways to address a group of people casually) so I don't think using men as a gender neutral term is that weird, especially since there's clear evidence it was used as a gender neutral term for decades, it's kinda like some people saying that they/them can't be used to talk about one person even though it's been used that way for a long time, some people just can't understand that language can work like that, and it's kinda annoying, but eh, nothing I can do about it other then try to explain ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
