Ya it looks like skipped steps or wet filament. Is it only on this yellow filament?
@GrandadIsAnOldManКүн бұрын
I had exactly the same problem with the orange filament straight out of the sealed bag but I seem to have fixed it simply by turning the heat up quite a bit. I was running at around 210°C and now I am running at 225°C. I think it is just a different batch of filament. The black I was using from the same manufacturer was happy on the lower temperature, but this batch seems to want more heat. Incidentally, my Sunlu filament connector arrived yesterday. Certainly not as simple to use as I had hoped. It could do with a couple of clamps either side to hold the filament for you or you need 3 or 4 hands. You can have an advanced viewing here kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5bXhKZ-rMh3Zqc The video doesn't go on general release until the 28th 😊😊

I am sure the issue with the filament is just that it is a different batch to the previous stuff I had from the same supplier and it needs to run quite a bit hotter. I was running at around 210°C, now I am running at 225°C and all seems OK.

Why does my spring fall down the length of the tube?
@GrandadIsAnOldManКүн бұрын
I am afraid I have no idea. The spring should not be able pass through the narrow section of the pole joints. I can only guess it is the wrong spring? Or do you just mean just the top section tube, which would be right.

I have a box full of small solar panels and I have zero batteries. Hmm, what will be the weakest part? I know! Nad those tiny batteries are rather expensive to buy, so I have started experimenting with super capacitors. You do need a fairly big one to run all night. And theire range is not suitable for 1.2 to 1.5 Volt, as most supercaps are 2.60 to 2.75 Volt. And the most capacity is in the top range of their voltage. (v is squared in the equation for the capacity). We need better joule thieves!
@GrandadIsAnOldMan2 күн бұрын
Good luck 👍👍 I actually decided to use the solar panel for something else. Although I got the string working, there are several LEDs that need replacing and I decided it really wasn't worth the effort. The other Solar light shown on the table at the start was more fun. It uses discrete components for the charge control and I was able to replace a faulty transistor to get it working. On the way to fixing it I used Tinkercad to emulate the circuit, which was interesting to do. I then went on to convert it to run on a Lipo from a vape.

At night, the solar panel becomes reverse biased and power is lost from the supercapacitor leaking through the panel - try adding a Schottky diode like a BAT43 to block this current path ... the trade off is that there's a 0.3V forward voltage loss caused by the diode.
@GrandadIsAnOldMan2 күн бұрын
You are right, but it works fine as it is. When we have had a sunny day it goes right through the night and is still running in the morning. Unfortunately in this series of videos we don't have sunny days, so it struggles. There are 3 in this series while I sort out how to film it, then there is a 4th video using a different camera scheduled for the 21st where I show it running for 32 hours, timelapsed down to 16 minutes, from midnight - through the day - and up to about 8 o'clock the next day. That camera automatically switches to infrared during the dark period. Here is the link, but it will not work until 9pm on the 21st kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqO4oal6ppeepaM

Two points. 1. That is mylar, not metal. 2. You adjust the curvature by sucking the air out, so you can change the focal length. Does it need a keel ? ( Im not a pro boat-builder btw !! just wondering) nice design and inspiring. Thanks for your videos
@GrandadIsAnOldMan3 күн бұрын
I expect it will get blown sideways if there is any wind, so a keel might help that, but it really depends what you expect from a little boat like this. I am not sure if that rudder is large enough, for the same reason. I won't really know until we get suitable weather to try it on a reasonable sized pond and I would need to make sure my RC rescue recovery boat is in working condition too, in case we need to retrieve it. I don't expect is is worth trying it this time of year anyway. Better to wait for the summer.

that looks neatly done for cutting with a craft knife I usually use a hot wire cutter to cut all my polystyrene I once cut up the packing for a washing machine bit by bit it took a while
@GrandadIsAnOldMan3 күн бұрын
I did build up quite a stock of polystyrene for making planes, but I only did a few. The hot wire bows are hanging up in the shed and I have a 12v car battery sitting in there that is kept topped up from a solar panel. I haven't used it in years. It wouldn't surprise me if the battery is dry. I really should check it sometime. Luckily, at the moment the solar panel is disconnected because I was using it on one of my other projects.

I have been able to swap the music barrel with the one in the battery powered music box (That arrives in the postbag video on Friday). Initially I thought it would be a big problem to do this, but it turned out easier than I expected. The 'swap' video is on the 18th. However I have not swapped the 'comb' or whatever it is called, so the tone of the music is different. I probably will swap the comb eventually, but at the moment I need to get some different solar cells. It needs 1.5 volts, but none of my 1.5 volt cells give enough power, so I used 6v cells and obviously it spins far too fast 🤣🏃➡️🎶

I cannot see the point. The purpose of the SHORT is to cater for those with minimal attention span. Increasing the time to 3 minutes is a backward step, unless it is a way that KZbin can grab a bigger percentage of your revenue by "claiming" videos that would otherwise have come under the normal Adsense rules. The way they take your money on shorts is quite different.
