The 9-3 has trionic 7 with automatic boost control integrated within the ECU controlled via the APC switch.

In addition to the APC, I've included the manual controller between the wastegate and APC solenoid to increase the boost even more so. If you watch my video about making a boost gauge, you'll see how much it peaks and then holds. I was surprised by the results.

Great channel, thanks for the vid. I have a 1990 FTP convertible, manual converted. It's in NZ now, ex Hong Kong - no rust on it anywhere. 67,000 kms on it, so it's pretty tight all round. What mods did you make to get the engine on your black hardtop up to 200 bhp? Turbo upgrade? That thing looks quick...
@stefansworld3351
@stefansworld3351 2 ай бұрын
It's faster than many I've driven. Minimal turbo lag and it holds boost higher in the rev range. I've removed the cat, more free flowing silencers, higher flow stainless steel fine mesh air filter. It was an LPT, but it's now got the full blown turbo gearbox, longer geared, faster 0-60 time as you don't have to shift to 3rd to get to 60. No APC , but a bleed valve fitted along with many hours of fine tuning the actuator rod to get the perfect balance of high boost, no lag. I'm actually running less boost than I used to, as the gearboxes don't like repeat hard driving with high boost, so it's not as fast as it was. Nothing fancy. I estimate it at 200bhp. It must be, because it'll go straight off the clock. The speedo needle just presses against the trip reset button, so the top speed is around 155mph (249km/h). It does still pick up, but I always run out of road.

@wideopen125 Yes. It's the Mitsubishi unit found on 900 models, LPT and HPT fitted after 1990. Smaller physical size compared to the Garrett, but less lag, more reliable and seems to hold boost better.

I was into Saab in a big way back in the day. I got a Saab 900 GL first then moved onto what l really wanted the Legendary Saab 99 turbo in red this was in 1984 the car was a V reg l unfortunately rolled it but managed to acquire another in red W reg within a few months fantastic car which used to turn heads back then . I turned a lot of people on to Saab who then had never heard of the company. Good video nice car the kind of car you don't sell on !

The only thing that let the 99 turbo down was the non power assisted steering especially because l had wider tyres on. The 2 l had were the boot /sedan 2 door which l prefer loved the stumpy boot especially when viewed from. Behind low slung looked really purposeful. The 900 turbo was obviously a more refined car but l loved the rough and ready non nonsense 99 turbo l had to sell the second one which l used to see on a regular basis l made a mistake but l needed the money. Where l worked we had a local Saab dealer Woolford motors in Tottington . There was also a new fancy dealer in Manchester. I went one day for a part l needed when l pulled up there was a red haired guy stood outside who l vaguely recognized l nodded at him and he said hello which people as you know always did when you had a Saab .when l came out he was walking around my car and admiring it then it came to me who he was he was one of the presenters of "tomorrows world" cannot remember his name he had a fantastic looking 900 turbo 16v aero with all the body kit on but was totally blown away by my red devil!!! @catfish828 I have a brochure from Woolfold Saab dealership for a 99. I've had it since I was about 12 years old! We used to trade with Saab Manchester back in the day. I found that the 99 handled better than the 900 due to the shorter wheelbase and overhangs. I had a 1980 99GL 4 speed which I managed 120 out of it on a long run down the M61. It had a strong engine that had been rebuilt at some point before I owned it. I paid £40 for it back in 1999 and ran it for 18 months. Those were the days 😁

I've only ever driven one 2.1L. It was a LHD someone brought to the garage. Slightly more torque, but hardly worth the messing around with bore sizes, larger inlet ports, inlet manifold for such little gains. The auto box is woefully outdated, even back in the 80's. There's so many German corporations that have their roots back to the second world war interests. Dr. Oetker provided the German army with food, Siemens did the communication systems, Hugo Boss did the uniform designs, Adidas provided the boots, BMW some of the plane engines. Always Loved the 99/900, back in the day owned a dowdy 99 4-door and then an '85 2-door 900i (8-valve, mechanical injection), an unusual version that seemed to be almost stripped-out (electric nothing at all) and was quite light as a result, with the grunty 8-valve actually pretty quick for a non-turbo. It was white, minilite (style) wheels, boot spoiler and I actually came to prefer its looks to the 3-door. Yours seems to be pretty hairy, but have you ever considered an equal-length header? I know they lose the idle/low-RPM burble that distinguishes the engines, but I hear they reduce turbo lag (and sound better at high RPM).

I've replaced shocks and top suspension mounts and suspension arms, but it still remains. The car has a Viggen Rescue Kit subframe brace at the bottom of the engine and I'm thinking it could be the engine mounts sagging and the front exhaust pipe (or other engine part) making contact with the subframe brace. Great video haven't seen one of these for a while in Luton I used to see a few of these but hardly any now I had a Sri model 2litre mine was built in Germany in hatchbacks and estate were built in Luton saloons in Germany. I once saw one of these for sale in autotrader years ago it had a msn number (manufacturer serial number ) I found out later there was 500 made and everyone hade a msn number on it this should be stamped onto the engine bay on the front slam panel by the headlights where the bonnet joins the slam panel. There was some 2.6v6 versions available as well I worked at the vauxhall site in Luton and someone was telling me that the gsi models were made by a company called motor sport development in Milton Keynes hence the msn numbers vehicles that left Luton were built as a Sri models all 500 models went to motor sport development in Milton Keynes were they had different alloys and I think the engines were tuned the suspension was already set up for a sports car Sri model facelift models were Vectra b 2000 onwards earlier models suffered with sensors cam shaft sensor crankshaft sensor speed position sensor mine was a w reg and suffered with sensors on a regular basis I had the same exhaust as the one in this video underneath the spoiler if you feel along the underneath you should be able to feel the word immscher somebody who worked with me at vauxhall later told me he worked at a company that fitted all the spoilers and the alloy wheels to these vehicles so they could be rebadged as gsi models which contradicts what I stated early if anybody knows different please correct me in the comments. I mine was a w reg 2000 model Vectra b I bought it july 2005 on 56000 and kept it until July 2014 it had 142000 miles on it it suffered with sensors on a regular basis every couple of years a sensor would need replacing the rocker cover (might be called cambox cover ) where it says ecotec would leak oil and later on the computer in the dashboard would give false information mine would tell me to check oil when I had oil and would also tell me my brave pads were low when they wasn't so it can be temporary mental however I enjoyed it and it proved to be a reliable car over many years later rust became its enemy I seem to remember the cambelt had to be replaced every 40000 miles this vehicle was replaced with a Mondeo MK4 titanium x which I found was a much more comfortable ride than the Vectra whenever I saw a gsi model I always said to myself that will be my next car but later on the Vectra I had was so unreliable I went back to ford as the Mondeo appealed to me. Regular maintenance servicing will ensure a long life rust is its worst enemy wheel arches tend to go and front doors water drainage holes tend to get blocked as well which soon causes rust rear bushes on lower trailing arms cause knocking sounds for a car that lasted nine years and was 14 years old when I got rid of it I can't really complain I was impressed by the performance of the ecotec engine.i could never get the fuel consumption above 36 mpg. I noticed you have an electric sunroof as well as air conditioning which mine had I think this was an optional extra mine had a cd changer in the glove box which took up the whole glove box terrible design lights in doors were a nice touch discs brakes front and rear the handbrake works on an internal drum brake inside the rear brake discs which you can only access by removing the rear discs this design has been around for a while and other car manufacturers have used this before I found my handbrake was not very good I would often put my handbrake on and my car would roll backwards not a good design for mine still nice to own a sports car saloon in blue looked nice doesn't do much for your spine harden suspension every bump ow ow ow hence why a Mondeo titanium x was alot better

The suspension is pretty firm and I can confirm that a Mondeo rides much better, even if it has sports suspension. The Vectra C is not as good as a B in many aspects, but only a couple (plastic fuel tank, better rust proofing). The MSD no. is indeed on the front slam panel, on a silver alloy label. The handbrake is adjusted and set up perfectly on this one, but they do need periodic adjustment and cleaning. The door bottoms on this one as well as the rear arches are original and in good condition. The rear rose bushes and inset anti roll bar 'D' bushes have been replaced. The trailing arm bushes are on the list of things to do. There's not really been any electrical issues with this one, although it's had the oil cooler/heat exchanger replaced not long before it was purchased. I did the same job on my own V6. I had a 2.0, W reg SRi 4 door in Star Silver starting with 152,000 back in 2009, owned until 2012 , sold it with 176,000 . The car drove fine, although the rust spots were coming through all over, so I sold it, because good paintwork is so expensive. This one is solid underneath, no welding done or needed. Still future videos of work to be done on this one, when I get any free time. Thanks for the interest!

The last truly worthy Saabs were the 95 and the 96. Newer models are money pits. Even the 96 V-4 has a few weak points. The 3 cylinder 2 stroke was a marvel of engineering. Saab still makes excellent aircraft, but the car businees is defunct.

Nice video. Waiting part 2. 1 correction : only 2.5 and 3.0 awd. 2.1 is front wheel drive.

I am aware that the 2.1 was fwd only otherwise the tax band would increase. We sold an estate, automatic 3.0 AWD and the tax was eye watering for the value of the car. We are working on it this week, so an update will be coming soon 😁
