I listen to you two all the time and really like your take on things until now. Jimmy when has Ben Johns ever been demonstrative? thats just not Ben in my opinion, I'm absolutely sure that he cares and that he wants to win, he just can't do it all on his own. I feel like his owners spent a lot of money on him and then not much more...did they spend all their money? Is Ben the goat ? absolutely...you can't compare anna leigh and Ben, the competition in women's just isn't there yet and when she does lose or gets behind she shows her emotions. I feel like we need to not be so critical and give him a break, he can't win all the time and has emotions just like the rest of us. Just my opinion.

The Picklr was a trash location per email! “6. The venue selection is grossly unprofessional. This week was in a remote area of SLC at a facility without adequate spacing around the courts and horrendous lighting. The lighting is just so wrong. The Picklr literally put un-diffused lighting directly down the middle of the courts. Meaning direct LED lighting down the sight lines of the courts. This is absurd and grossly unprutessional to nave players play a pro event in those conditions. Ben already has an issue with indoor ighting and this week was completely unworkable.”

Has anyone else considered the idea of trading Ben Johns? in many sports, a non-contending team trading a highly paid player to a contending team for the future is a well used tactic.
@douglasmurdoch7247
@douglasmurdoch7247 2 күн бұрын
There’s literally no way to bring back similar value. They paid 840k in the draft to get him. Maybe, maybe they could trade him for another team’s first AND second picks. If that team is confident that they can win with their third pick, fourth pick, Ben Johns, and a waiver wire pick. But it’s not going to happen.

I wholeheartedly agree with Jimmy’s insightful comments regarding Ben Johns and Hayden. Ben Johns, despite being an extraordinary talent and the face of pickleball, appears increasingly indifferent towards MLP events. His lack of enthusiasm is evident in his recent performances and interactions, suggesting a disconnect from the spirit and growth of the sport. As Jimmy pointed out, it’s crucial for the sport to have ambassadors who are not only skilled but also passionate about promoting and elevating the game. On the other hand, Hayden exemplifies the energy and commitment needed to propel pickleball forward. His fierce competitiveness and ability to engage both on and off the court are what the sport needs to captivate and grow its audience. Players like Hayden, who embody passion and dedication, should be at the forefront of pickleball, serving as the true ambassadors of the game.

I think the issue with defaulting to the call made on the court when it’s close is that the call is made by a player competing in the match which carries inherent bias. In other sports like football, a neutral party (the ref), makes the initial call. If there isn’t indisputable evidence to over turn, then the original call stands. I think in pickleball, you can’t default to the call on the court since a neutral party isn’t making it. The refs have to make a call to the best of their ability. This is also why the PPA/MLP NEED to implement a better replay system like the one they showcased at the last MLP. Players making calls at all is a bigger issue that hopefully gets addressed soon.
@morekingofthecourt
@morekingofthecourt 2 күн бұрын
Yes, I understand that and it does make sense, it was just so infuriating to see these calls from ALL teams get the calls overturned when they were so wrong or there wasn't sufficient evidence to overturn. But what you're saying does make sense.

The recent firing of Caitlyn Kerr, the diligent GM of the Las Vegas Night Owls, is an appalling display of negligence and disrespect from the team's ownership. Caitlyn's unparalleled commitment and tireless efforts were integral to the team's success, and her unjust termination has not only demoralized the players but also severely impacted their performance. This blatant disregard for her contributions is unacceptable. Caitlyn deserves a public apology and reinstatement, and Chris Patrick’s appointment should be scrutinized for potential conflicts of interest. This situation demands swift and decisive action to restore integrity and support within the team.

@morekingofthecourt

A drop is a drop and no one likes when you have to do it or when its done to one person. That's a great question. An established player has those things you mentioned, but if they're not performing, they could lose those. An established top 20 won't be able to pick someone else up in the top 20 as everyone will already have partners. What was Noe or other peoples option? Was Noe going to play with another top 10 or top 25 player? Or was he going to play with someone similiar to his own situation? Regardless, no one wants to be in that situation and luckily for me, Noe was too understanding and we actually have another tournament coming up together.

@@smalltownpickleball there is reason, because its backstory and context. Had we won that match, this drop wouldn't have happened. We would've had a top 4 finish, possibly a top 2. @morekingofthecourt
@morekingofthecourt 2 күн бұрын
@@The_pickleball_fennec I normally would tend to agree with that, but when its your career, it becomes a bit different. If you commit to someone a year out and decide to change partners 1 month after you say that, is that still dropping someone? According to you, it would be. We can go back and forth on this all you want. As I said, no one likes to do it. I've "dropped" 2 partners in 10 years of playing, i've been dropped before. Its not fun but almost all players now days (even myself) are understanding of situations. As I said in the video, if James dropped me for BJ/JW who are ranked top 4... i'd say congrats, good luck.

Line calls have to be done electronically, like Hawkeye in tennis. Cheaters call in balls out and many honest players, who don't want a bad rep, end up playing balls that are clearly an inch or two out without making a call. This double penalizes honest players. There is also no way to call balls which are out by rule that land just outside the lines with part of the ball still above the line because they don't compress enough to touch the line, which would also be addressed by electronic line calling. By fixing line calls, addressing paddle rules, and choosing balls based on quality instead of sponsorship $$, the major problems in professional pickleball would be resolved.
