This is definitely a deep cut in the Nine Inch Nails catalogue. Nonetheless it’s one of my favorite tracks of his. To me it’s extremely existential. “I will take my place, in the great below.” Seeming to accept his fate or destiny as one who occupies some sort of lower and darker echelon of life.

There are a lot of comments so i don't know if anyone noted this previously, but Trent was trying to give the listener the feeling that they were submerged under water. Like when you lay down in a bathtub or pool and your ears are experiencing external water pressure that isn't normally there. Everything becomes muffled and bass is louder. Midrange sounds tend to sound higher than normal and any bass at all is very amplified. Also there's an echoing effect that Trent has captured masterfully in this recording.
