A clarification on whether Super 9 belongs to Denza or Fang Cheng Bao: Initially assigned to Fang Cheng Bao, Super 9 was moved to Denza after Leopard 5's poor sales in early 2024 led to a 50k RMB price cut, overlapping with BYD Tang's price range. This prompted BYD to reposition its brands, making Denza more premium than Fang Cheng Bao, just below Yang Wang. As a result, Super 9 will launch under Denza, featuring exclusive Denza technologies like the e3 system. Separately, rumors indicate BYD may rebrand Fang Cheng Bao products as Denza in certain markets for stronger recognition. While Leopard 5 and 8 might appear under Denza in specific regions, Super 9 will be under Denza in all markets, as it now firmly belongs to the Denza brand.

Here in Sri Lanka Toyota is the highest Value (Even second-hand car market price) Economical and Luxury segments. Dealership caters for Government, Corporate, Businessmen and Professionals while General public buy from Car importers-Sales Centers (because Brand new cars are sold at hefty price by dealer) because Sri Lankan prefers Japanese Domestic models which comes with Full option unlike Basic models import by Dealership. Spare parts are also available in the market for Toyota compared to other brands. However, Toyota are not up to date in terms of consumer ambitious and they are lagging behind latest gadgets on vehicles what customer need. Taking Honda's ability to make stylish vehicles this merger should also focus to produce Durable rigid structured, User friendly interior design with cabin sound proof, Comfortable vehicles ( E.g.: Quality simplified Suspension system) at affordable price to consumers in worldwide.

I have owned an electric car for the last 10 years, and will never go back to any form of an internal combustion engine. Nevertheless, I understand why they are trying to do this. Still, if Rivian can output an SUV that can get over 300 miles of range, then why can’t scout do something similar?

The gas engine will not need to be nearly as large as you suggest. At minimum, all it needs to do is supply the *average* power required to move the vehicle at the maximum design speed (e.g.: 75 - 85mph), meaning the vehicle could go that fast (on average) without draining the battery at all. The *most* it would need to do is provide that plus recharge the battery at whatever the electric energy consumption is at a similar speed (maybe ~0.5 kwhr per mile. Neither of these are anywhere near 100hp for a vehicle like the Scout. In the past, the problem has been EPA rules that severely limit the size of the fuel tank in EREVs. Hopefully, that will change with the new administration.

Why not be a naturally aspirated range extender? Gas turbo would be overcomplicated and a repair/maintenance headache. Love the overall design and range extender option. First EV i'd actually consider. Be much more comfortable with TDi range extender if has to have a turbo.

Most PHEV owners don't understand oil change intervals. Still do them at least once every 6 months. Also, that PHEV engine should last a VERY long time if the vehicle is used in the city and plugged in a lot. For example, two tanks of gas per oil change. Also, we try to use the gas down to less than 30km before refilling... so the gas is fresh.

Japan is betting on hydrogen technology as an alternative to EVs, aiming to reduce reliance on China, which dominates the EV supply chain. This cautious stance reflects broader concerns about geopolitical vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, the drive for ICE efficiency has compromised reliability, eroding trust. Legacy automakers underestimated the Chinese market, clinging to outdated strategies and suffering massive losses. The auto industry faces inevitable consolidation, with only a few brands likely to survive. Many legacy automakers risk being acquired for a fraction of their value. The Honda-Nissan deal, likely government-mandated, aims to shield these iconic brands from Chinese acquisition, preserving Japan’s automotive heritage amidst rising global competition.

From a purely functional perspective a small diesel would make more sense. if it is a generator and not a prime mover, there are already CARB,EPA ready devices in use in the commercial truck and RV space. More KW of output per displacement and gallon. Diesel also is more forgiving of sparse use where gasoline is not. Obviously from a perception of "green" diesel is a tougher call in North America.

back in the 90s, Nissan was viewed as the cooler alternative to the more common, mundane Toyotas and Hondas that every boring person in the world drove. then they sort of lost their edge and became the option if you couldn't afford the superior Camry or Accord. the Pathfinder and Frontier should've been a focus but they let both fall far behind in terms of engineering and build quality. oh, and remember the Titan? hahaha. FAILS

Not sure why Nissan is so bad these days, I guess they have some unreliable cars. But, so does Honda. Honda went the small-turbo route a few years ago to get better MPG. Most serious folks see that as a mistake. I own two Hondas, a 2017 and a 2018, both with the 2.4L engine that has billions of trouble-free miles. You can't get that anymore and the prices are markedly higher. This is the root of the problem - building cars that people are not crazy about and charging too much money for them. If that does not kill sales, I don't know what will.
