The volume curves for Nissan and Honda mirrors that for total global auto sales, meaning that their global market share may not have changed as much as looking at their volumes charts in isolation may suggest. Toyota likely had their highest global market share percentage ever last year. The lower yen has negatives as well, like using those yen to pay for raw materials and devaluation of their reserves/retained earnings (in $).

Nissan talked to Honda due to Foxconn's intent to buy Renault's some 23% share in Nissan. Foxconn is Apple's main iPhone assembler and having a dream of making EVs. Foxconn also plans to join Japan's SoftBank boss Mr. Song to apply Song's AI platform with his EV. It was the real intention behind the merger plan of Nissan and Honda to resist Foxconn's acquisition. There is no synergy or complementary benefit between Nissan and Honda cars. Their merging will just delay slightly towards bankruptcy.

Not sure why Nissan is so bad these days, I guess they have some unreliable cars. But, so does Honda. Honda went the small-turbo route a few years ago to get better MPG. Most serious folks see that as a mistake. I own two Hondas, a 2017 and a 2018, both with the 2.4L engine that has billions of trouble-free miles. You can't get that anymore and the prices are markedly higher. This is the root of the problem - building cars that people are not crazy about and charging too much money for them. If that does not kill sales, I don't know what will.
@knickd197916 күн бұрын
back in the 90s, Nissan was viewed as the cooler alternative to the more common, mundane Toyotas and Hondas that every boring person in the world drove. then they sort of lost their edge and became the option if you couldn't afford the superior Camry or Accord. the Pathfinder and Frontier should've been a focus but they let both fall far behind in terms of engineering and build quality. oh, and remember the Titan? hahaha. FAILS
@veerod38316 күн бұрын
Japan is betting on hydrogen technology as an alternative to EVs, aiming to reduce reliance on China, which dominates the EV supply chain. This cautious stance reflects broader concerns about geopolitical vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, the drive for ICE efficiency has compromised reliability, eroding trust. Legacy automakers underestimated the Chinese market, clinging to outdated strategies and suffering massive losses. The auto industry faces inevitable consolidation, with only a few brands likely to survive. Many legacy automakers risk being acquired for a fraction of their value. The Honda-Nissan deal, likely government-mandated, aims to shield these iconic brands from Chinese acquisition, preserving Japan’s automotive heritage amidst rising global competition.

Here in Sri Lanka Toyota is the highest Value (Even second-hand car market price) Economical and Luxury segments. Dealership caters for Government, Corporate, Businessmen and Professionals while General public buy from Car importers-Sales Centers (because Brand new cars are sold at hefty price by dealer) because Sri Lankan prefers Japanese Domestic models which comes with Full option unlike Basic models import by Dealership. Spare parts are also available in the market for Toyota compared to other brands. However, Toyota are not up to date in terms of consumer ambitious and they are lagging behind latest gadgets on vehicles what customer need. Taking Honda's ability to make stylish vehicles this merger should also focus to produce Durable rigid structured, User friendly interior design with cabin sound proof, Comfortable vehicles ( E.g.: Quality simplified Suspension system) at affordable price to consumers in worldwide.

There even are EVs in third world countries like Sri Lanka and you think this can't be supported?😂 EVs are here to stay. No political agenda can change that. Pollution in huge cities is so menacing in many cities all around the globe there is no other way but to substitute a lot of vehicles with EVs. You "we don't have the infrastructure" crybabies. There are whole cities getting rebuilt after wars within some years. All of Norway shifted towards EV infrastructure in just some years. If governments WANTED they could make shifts like that within 5-10 years. You just need to throw money at it and will create tenthousands of jobs on the way. It's big oil money preventing these changes.

Nissan will weaken Honda. Honda itself has stopped growing owing to Chinese brands, too much competition in Japan and a resurgent GM. Nissan should be given to Renault in a stock, no cash, merger. Renault and Nissan complement one another and could offer a global like up if Nissan quit Europe. For political reasons these companies never shared enough technology but this would lead to lay offs. Hyandai, Kia, Subaru and Mazda combined have killed Nissan and salled Honda growth. This gov pressure explained why Honda cut its GM partnership.

Technically it's the inverter or motor that does the charging of the battery in a hybrid, but normal people don't care about. They just want reassurance they don't have to do any plugging in, and this is exactly why the term "self-charging" is so triggering for the EV weirdos. They identify so much with the cause that a rejection of EVs feels like a rejection of them. Toyota is in much better shape to help Nissan but they choose Honda to counterbalance Toyota which has become very dominant in the Japanese market.
@timharu6219 күн бұрын
EV adoption will take longer than you think. The Battery alone weighs 1000 pounds. You are basically driving a truck that maneuvers like a sports car which is deadly as this will result in many more deaths due to reckless driving. every year 40000+ die in car accidents in the US and another 2.6 million ER visits, this number will go up significantly since you have a truck disguised as an EV hit other cars. US infrastructure is not ready for mass EV adoption. Highway guard rails(run through like spaghetti), bridges, and car parks need to be updated for the increased load required. Japanese automakers are not in a rush to commercialize EVs. They are however investing heavily in R&D as the future is in EVs.

Who cares about EV's? Hybrids are so much better. They should just focus on perfecting the hybrids and forget about the EV's. Let Tesla struggle with that one and see how far they get. Starbucks did badly in Australia😁😁. Honda sold a grand total of about 1400 vehicles in October+ November here. HA needs to take a long hard look at the marketplace, dump their business model, trust their dealer network, up spec their vehicles to industry standard, improve their engines and drop their prices by at least $7,000. If they don't then the future of Honda in Australia is very bleak.

This is a temporary storm. By that I mean the forced EV movement, the Chinese car manufacturing invasion waging a price war is new and will settle. The truths with the EV mandates and Chinese cars (quality, support and life cycle) will soon be known and settle the market. As with many Chinese low cost war strategy, people get surprised and allure initially bringing high sales. Soon people will realise the quality differences, environmental concerns associated with low cost which is low quality and low retention spans. As well as the down side of high turnover rates (low retention) one being on a debt treadmill, lack of affordable 3rd party parts, low time period to customise and enjoy a debt free, customised period of ownership (Classic car period). Car manufacturers are battening the hatches to weather this out. It is a sign of great flexibility to withstand changing environment even if temporary.
