Loved the series of videos you guys produced, especially on the wooden boat you all restored back to its optimal state of nautical beauty. I daydreamed as a kid after reading the Chichester account of cruising the world in the Gypsy Moth lV. Kudos and continued success in life to you two.

Thanks for taking us with you, wondering how strong is your bleach bath as I’m in the tropics and vegetables go mouldy quickly.

Off topic but the ceremony reminded me of it. When I went to Everest at base camp they do the ceremony before we left to climb. I had my family at base camp until we left and right when they started the ceremony my two year old took a huge dump in his pants and looked at me and yelled I poop daddy. Everyone heard him

Could you imagine hundreds of years ago leaving Britain or Spain and not knowing what’s out there and finding and seeing this?? With no real maps no electronics.

I crossed the Gulf of Mexico in a Pearson 36 Cutter during a gale, and the waves crashing over the bimini top flooded the cockpit and shorted the starter leaving the only source of power the 1 2006 model 200w solar panel (poor performance in mixed light), which took out our auto pilot and most other forms of navigation, and all lights requiring star navigation at night, or wind navigation when the stars weren't visible. I had little experience sailing, but after all day, day after day of sailing with no motor or autopilot assist, it became fairly intuitive to steer the boat by sail alone by balancing the jib and the mainsail. I then took cat naps during my shifts (4hr on / 4 hr off for 7 days), keeping my feet on the wheel to maintain heading.. solo sailed that way from Key West to Fort Myers a couple years later... that ended up being a mistake when the jib blew out, and I couldn't maintain a heading to work on it, so set anchor in 50' of rocky bottomed water (deploying 50' of chain and 200' of rope) which then took me around 2 hours to pull back in with a seized windlass (could only use it to lock the rope/chain in place when the boat road up the waves.. or if I wasn't in time, it would rip the rope/chain out of my hands). Once the anchor was stowed again and I had fixed the jib, I returned to the cockpit, and took another catnap.. woke up, and my back was completely seized up, and in excruciating pain.. every wave I went over was incredibly painful as my core attempted to balance despite the injury. Once I got past the Keys, I anchored on a southern facing beach, and spent a week eating ibu profen and sleeping and nothing else.. after a week I managed to pilot her up the river into Fort Myers where I left her in a slip and flew back to California to stay with my mother for a month while my back healed.. then returned for more ;-)

Does the boat balance out when it gets fresh on jib and jigger?
@MadisonBoatworks
@MadisonBoatworks 13 күн бұрын
Yes it balances nicely in that configuration, but the main mast is more heavily stayed, so when it really blows hard the mizzen is stowed and we run under reduced main and staysail.

Beyond the excelent work and the wonderful voyage, you're doing something for which you should be awarded a medal, a title and a voyage long generous royalty .. in short, you're saving KZbin..! Other than this and very few other posters, the platform has become a dump yard of senseless trash. Thank you one more time ! 🙂

Better than overly sexed and cool sv delos, slow and natural. If I have a sailboat how do I avoid treacherous weather while near land or at sea? I am sure even the Marquesas gets hurricanes?

What an adventure of a lifetime! I thoroughly enjoyed watching all your documentary sailing videos across the mighty Pacific. It must be a bit scary sailing at night when you can't see the waves coming towards you.. Definitely an endurance of both mental and physical challenges. Bring it all together in a book perhaps..? Take your time, and enjoy Australia!

Thank you for the wonderful videos. I tend to cringe every time you raise of lower a sail while not pointing into the wind. It looks like it works for you though.
