Though the Marquesas Islands had captivated us with their beauty, it was time to set sail on the 500 nautical mile passage to the Tuomotus. When we arrived we found islands that were different from the Marquesas in nearly every way. Turquoise lagoons lined by white sand beaches awaited us, and we found beautiful coral reefs surrounding the palm fringed islets.
Julia is a traditional wooden boat, constructed to the Ingrid design by William Atkin. She was built in 1960 of fir and cedar on oak frames, and has proven to be a capable blue water crusing boat for voyaging the world's oceans.
Our dinghy is skin-on-frame and was designed by Dave Gentry.

I've noticed some other comments below and totally agree, this is the best sailing channel on KZbin. I think it is due to the very good narration, excellent use of music, and the footage being raw and to the point - it makes you dream of buying your own boat and setting sail. Many other channels are overly commercialised and focused less on sailing and more on making money - which is their prerogative. Please keep to this format, don't change, you will be rewarded in the long run.

No doubt you will treasure not only the memories of the Tuamotu Islands, but also those great shots of Julia silhouetted against the backdrop of the atoll, coral reef, sunsets etc. Julia is so evocative of an earlier age of South Pacific trading sailing vessels (OK, they were usually schooners not ketches!). She looks authentic in that setting compared with the plastic cats etc! I bet you get envious glances from some of the other sailors...

I found your channel recently when I saw the Fatu Hiva title. I've enjoyed the simplicity of your style. At the end of this episode you comment about going to the big city of Papeete. We flew in for a cruise on Windsong. The "big city" looked like Annapolis to us. We went on our cruise through the Society Islands and returned to Papeete, which had grown in a week to a big city. How perceptions can change in a week is amazing. Enjoy the big city and the small ones like Pao Pao.
