So im not saying ur wrong... but I have 3812 songs "liked" on my play list... and let's say there are (on avg 12 songs per cd)... thats..317.6...... cds...so let's say 318...now let's say a cd is $10 (and I know that's low balling tf outta it)... that's just under 3200$ (not counting tax)... now let's divide that by the new cost of spotify..so 12$...sooo all my music would cost me 265 months of spotify membership..if I bought every album...and that was low balling the price... and the fact I would need to deal with songs I don't like on each album... But like you said we are paying for convenience And the new smart shuffle is a pretty interesting way to find new music also..I didn't realize I had it on one day... and I woke up in the middle of the night (I sleep with spotify on).. and I heard a song I had no idea what it was... and that artist (babymetal) has been my daily go to for almost a month now.... So me personally im ok with 12$ a month...but I do also wish the artist got paid more.. But that's just my opinion Overall great video and great theory

The problem i have with spotify as i use the free version is having the shuffle features locked and i cant listen to an album in order like they they are supposed to be listened to i hate that so much. And also cant look at the lyrics of a song. I have started using adblock against the ads only problem is i can only use it in a chrome tab or something but mobile unable to do those things.

you had valid points. i reinstalled winamp this year =) so i dont even have to open spotify to listen to some of the tracks i have. also i dont even know if i can afford my internet bill anymore cause they keep raising the price on that to. offline music rules and winamp.

Spotify needs to increase their prices because they need to pretend that they pay artists appropriately and keep up with inflation

a friend of mine got screwed over by how spotify deals with people botting music. his song was added to a playlist by someone he doesnt know and they were botting the songs on that playlist. they gave him a strike for that. he couldnt appeal, or even start a discussion with anyone or anything from spotify. he couldve been banned from uploading music because of that. the fact we earn nothing from them doesn't add any good reason to keep uploading to there and using the app at all. in fact, i was distributing through distrokid when i started (the company that owns distrokid is owned by spotify). it took me a year to get to the $6.50 needed to even take the money out, and then they took around $5 as "transfer fees" before i even got taxed for the international transfer (love living in australia). they pay nothing, and when they do, they take most of it anyway. and dont get me started on the horrible practices of the CEO. great vid, keep it up <3

Unless there are apps that will let you just have your playlists on their app, it's time to buy some blank cds and start burning all the songs onto cds and buy a portable cd player

I HATE the shuffle button, it's literally the same 20 or less songs just being shuffled like really? out of all my liked songs? Don't even get me started on the way Spotify doesn't let you discover small artists. I don't mind giving a small band or artist a try, but hell is it so hard to do. Hell, not even social media does. I want to support small artists to expand my music choices but to also support the artist themselves. There has to be a social media site that lets small bands and artists post their stuff and that's all. I'm not talking bout Tiktok or YT shorts, I'm talking bout an individual app for the bands n artists to just post their music, them singing a cover, etc. where you'll get to customize it to show you pop-punk artists if you like pop-punk and you can agree to seeing content of similar genres too if you want.

I have never and will never pay for spotify, because they don't pay artists shit. I will never upload any of my music to spotify, either.

It blows my mind that people actually pay for all these streaming apps. Idk, maybe I'm just stuck back in my Limewire days... but I've never paid for any of that nonsense. Not for music, not for TV or movies. I support my favorite artists by going to their shows, not thru streaming. There are so many methods to just watch or listen for free, and no one I know under 50 pays for that BS. I honestly didn't know any young people actually did...

I just want to remind people that Spotify NEVER turned a profit. The main reason is that the big record labels want a stupidly large share of the pie (like always in every media). The costs are calculated for every time you listen. This meant last year alone they paid 9 billion US Dollars. Now I dug into their 2023 "ANNUAL REPORT PURSUANT TO SECTION 13 OR 15(d) OF THE SECURITIES EXCHANGE ACT OF 1934". That makes up over 90% of their entire cost of revenue of 9.8 billion (this is royalties and server costs (with server admins etc.) etc.). In addition their is the cost for research and development at 1.7 billion, sales and marketing at 1.5 billion and general and administrative at 585 million. The latter two actually decreased compared to 2022, while the other two increase. That puts their entire costs at about 13.6 billion. Their entire revenue was 13.2 billion (1.7 billion from their ad users, 11.6 billion from their premium users). In case you are interested, they paid 27 million in taxes for 2023. And now you may also know why the go so hard into podcasts, because the "royalties" are considerably cheaper there. Netflix had the same problem for some time and started to produce their own stuff because of it. But the big record labels are smart and pretty much force Spotify to not produce their own music (otherwise they risk them leaving after all).

A case scenario for me is that, I use to listen to "gbedegbede by stonebwoy" in 2015 but I don't listen to that song anymore. If I had bought that song and no stream, what would I do with the song? Streaming is good but spotify is bad. They should cut the garbage on the algorithm to save cost.

Currently I use Apple Music to stream new music and make playlists, and buy physical CDs from my top favorite artists. It’s a good middle ground that allows me to check out new music without going bankrupt, and still support my absolute favorite music and own it.
