The original didn’t have dihedral in the wings, it must have been a handful. Charles Lindberg supposedly said it was one of the worst planes he ever flew.

Nice model and great flying. I met David Lockspeiser way back in the early 60's. I was in my early teens then, and my father worked with David at the, Dunsfold aerodrome. My parents held a dinner party with the Dunsfold pilots and I got introduced to them. The next day as I was cycling into our drive way from school, the Hawker Hurricane "The Last of the Many" flew over from Dunsfold and seeing me, waggled his wings. Brilliant memory! Great to see David being remembered with your model.

WHAT A WONDERFUL ANECDOTE DEAR FRIEND...! I IMAGINE THE EXCITEMENT OF SEEING THE HURRICANE GREETING YOU WITH THE WINGS...! I AM AWARE THAT MINE IS JUST A HUMBLE TRIBUTE TO THAT UNRECOGNIZED GENIUS WHO WAS DAVIS LOCKSPEISER. IT IS A SHAME THAT HIS DESIGN WAS NOT PRODUCED. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR STORY AND FOR COMMENTING ON MY MODEL'S FLIGHT !

I bet it wants more nose-up angle in order to lift off. Many such very-low aspect-ratio planes are like that. See also the Stout 1918 Batwing sometimes called the vampire bat. Very-low aspect-ratio planform unitary wing-body with a rudder. It flew well, but the pilot said never again, because of complete lack of pilot view on landing.. Other similar planes are OK. What is the advantage and disadvantage of Co-Planar Joined Wing?
@rolfdenver Жыл бұрын
Your model flew better than the original! I understand that the original was designed for the main wing to intentionally flap like a bird’s wing. The “designer” was a con artist who had absolutely no aeronautical engineering training whatsoever.

What's so scary is that if that design was implemented in a drone that changes direction very quickly once in range of the anti missile missiles it would be impossible to shoot down

The sad part is, aerodynamically, it's no worse than anything else that existed at the time. It's major failing was the complete lack of rigidity in the wing.
