Just thinking of what it's like inside those B17s as the Axis aircraft literally mince them up with sustained bursts of accurate fire from behind. Utterly horrific to imagine. If Microprose accurately model that in their upcoming VR sim, players are gonna need therapy!

Hello Fishyyy! I follow your account with great pleasure. I have a question and I think you could help me. The bombers that I set at over 7000 meters do not look good contrail and also when they have engine fire or the explosive from AA guns. Is it a problem with the graphics of the game? Do you use a special way to have such good graphics at high altitudes? Thank you very much for the answer!

I still think its crazy how the amount of money the US threw to develop the B-29 was WAY more than the money they threw to develop the A-Bomb. I mean, the B-29 has a pressurized interior, remotely-controlled guns, could fly higher than anything it went up against at the time . . . could fly farther too! The Superfortress was at the cutting edge of aircraft technology at the time. You know a design is good if the Soviets copy it too. I've seen FIFI fly over me while I was at the beach. I've seen the Enola Gay parked happily at Udvar Hazy. It's an absolutely gorgeous airplane.

Here's a B-29 experience that afflicted one to two bombers out of every 500 per mission: You and your formation of Superfortresses fly on coarse for Japan on a nice sunny day, a beautiful day for some fire bombing. There has been next to no resistance because all the inland radar stations and anti aircraft have been knocked out and no enemy fighter cover because they'd rather use those for kamikaze attacks. The formation makes it into the mainland at a snail pace because Americans still haven't quite figured out the fact that bomber formations are flying against the jet stream which makes the Superfortresses look almost as if they were hovering still over the Imperial mainland. Regardless, you and your crew make it onto the mainland in immaculate condition, with not even a scratch. Bomb bay doors open and you release your full payload of incendiaries on the civilian rich populations below. As a pilot, you notice that the engines have been working extra hard keeping up with the formation as some slight over heating is evident on your gauges. No problem. Simply open up the cowl flaps to allow ventilation into the engines. Strange, flaps won't open no matter how many times I flip the switch. One by one the engines begin to overheat. You notice that your bomber is slowly falling behind the formation. You radio the other bombers the situation, all they can do is help you trouble shoot, but to no avail. You are losing power, one by one each cylinder starts to pop, and now you are losing altitude. You are going down. You can try to glide down and crash land, however the topography of Honshu is mountainous and ultimately treacherous. The crew is freaking out. You inform the crew and decide to have them bail out over the Imperial mainland. You say a prayer as one by one each crew member is bailing out the hatches each with a parachute. You're the last one to bail out over the flaming hellscape below as thousands upon thousands of civilians are either suffocating from the smoke and heat, or literally getting charred alive. You pull the chord. You think that perhaps becoming a prisoner of war won't be so bad, right? Maybe the Japanese might be a little light on the rations, but perhaps they know to keep bomber crew around knowing how valuable they are as prisoners of war? Below on the ground, many townspeople see parachutes floating directly above them among the smoke and embers evicerating what was once their livelihood and homes. They see the parachutes as the ones who caused all of the hellish destruction around them. The townspeople don't know any better about the entire situation because the government hasn't exactly informed them of all the surrounding territories that they've been meddling in. The only thing the people see is red in their eyes. Lips are pursed and quivering. They are pissed. Their friends, relatives, mothers, children, and babies were lost from all the fire bombing. They want pay back. And they are about to get it because one of these crew members just floated down and landed directly in front of them. You get up and release yourself from the parachute chords, start composing yourself as you see the townspeople slowly approach you, as you stand there, waving hi. And that, my friend, is the ultimate B-29 Superfortress experience.

i cant run this game for some reason, always crashes after a few hours, what is your rig?
@Fishyyy
@Fishyyy 16 күн бұрын
My rig is stated in the description. I have two ideas: There are memory issues with the vanilla game. If your game reliably crashes after a few hours, after it had a few lag spikes: Try to install some mod activator. Those use memory fixed executable files, which make your game run reliable. I had game crashes aswell, because I had a faulty graphics card before. I could see, that my graphics card drivers crashed, every time the game crashed, so that was a hint.

Most B-29 missions weren't escorted. No fighter had the range to fly from the Marianas to Japan and back. Escorts became available only after Iwo Jima was captured, very late in the war. Since you are probably referring to P-51 Mustangs, here is a fun fact: Only a total of 9 B-29 missions were escorted by Mustangs.

Topography is amazingly accurate. You can see Oshima Island, the Miura Peninsula, the docks at Kawasaki, Boso and Izu peninsulas, and some of the Tokyo Bay artificial islands. Looks like the bombs were released roughly over Kawasaki or modern-day Ota Ward to hit the docks in Tokyo.

@@Fishyyy I liked the dialogue. I found it much better than the silence from the last video. I also liked the chatter from your friends in multiplayer even if it wasn't always specific to the time period. I always thought it was the kind of talk that these airmen would exchange on the long routine parts of the flight. I recognize the enormous amount of work to create the script, generate the AI voices, and then sync it up with the video. So thank you, Fishyyy, for creating a video that at least some of us really appreciated.
@Fishyyy
@Fishyyy 18 күн бұрын
Thank you. Unfortunately, I don't have people to record with at the moment. I personally also really enjoy having the multiplayer voice recordings, but it seems like the algorithm doesn't like them. All of my really popular IL-2 videos don't have our voices in them. I guess our modern gamer conversations don't match the ww2 themed videos. Not sure about what to do, yet.

That's not very ultimate. The analog computer sights looked nothing like this. And you'd have to put and maintain the enemy plane in a bracket and the computer would adjust for lead and bullet drop.
@Fishyyy
@Fishyyy 19 күн бұрын
You are criticizing something I have no control over. This is the best, which can be done il IL-2 1946 at the moment. Therefore it is ultimate. The gunners in this are AI and use aimbot. They precompute lead and everything just like the sight would.
@matydrum
@matydrum 19 күн бұрын
@Fishyyy you did good. As you say you have no control over it. But call it ultimate? It's the only sim with controllable b-29, so that's like saying I won the race when coming back from jogging alone. That plus those very inaccurate turrets images... But the rest is very good. But don't mind me, I'm just an old picky WW2 aviation nerd.
