Out of a list of possible themes, our family voted on naming our preferred charities and non profit organizations, then drawing names as secret Santas and making charitable donations to our loved ones’ favorites. For once in a very long time I am looking forward to the Christmas gift exchange. What a joy! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It’s my first holiday season without my ma. Lost her end of July. Had her here at my house for a month on hospice, she LOVED gift giving and so do I. Hard being out though seeing things that would be something I’d have picked up for her. 😢

I am very sorry for your loss. I lost both of my parents 86 days apart in 2018. I still see something and say in my head oh man Mommy would have loved that. Wow that would have been perfect for Dad-- or with him it's maybe a cookie I think he would like. He had a sweet tooth like me. I am 62 years old and will always miss my parents every day. I hope you will always have lovely memories 💖

@lauraann7816 so very sorry. I do that with sweets and my dad too, I lost him in May 2019. I just found several gifts I had bought already for my ma because we shop year round for deals on things we know someone would love/need etc.

I liked your gift of time ideas. I never thought of actually taking a car for an oil change and/or car wash. Usually giving a gift card for something like that, but so true that taking the time to do it would be a gift as well. Thanks for sharing.

Finally a real minimalist gift giving video!! Thank you so much for that. I love your ideas, some where on my birthday wish list, The one I love the most is tickets to a standup show! That's my number one. I would love tickets to one of my favorite comedians, a nice dinner with my husband, and...... A babysitter!!!! All of you that have young kids know how haryit is to find a good babysitter. My last birthday, my 16 old niece babysat my kids as a gift. It was great!

Last year I bought my husband 6 months worth of unlimited carwashes. It was something he'd talked about doing and it was a good way to find out if he would use it enough to make it worthwhile to continue. It wasn't, but he did use it while he had it.

This year I’ve done experiences more. Pens tickets for my daughter and I and then another Pens game for me, my hubby and my older son (he’s never been to a hockey game) sadly we’re sucking this year so far. 😢 got my youngest Disney on ice for her, my oldest and I because her and I are Disney fanatics, she’s 23. Trying to book a glass blowing class for the family to take nana to also, my youngest loves art. Taking us all to see Pentatonix on the 24th including my MIL as part of her birthday gift.

Nobody in my family wanted to go Christmas shopping last year so we decided to bypass the gifts. It's stressful because all of our birthdays are around that time too. I ended up buying my daughter a year supply of contact lenses and basically provided maid services when she had her apartment so that eased the mom guilt. My partner and I usually just buy ourselves an experience or something that we can both use rather than gifts for each other anyway.

We don't do any adult gifts any more, apart from a small consumable for hosts. We just give to the grandchildren. My husband and I do Santa gifts in the morning, but it's usually consumables. It has made life so much less stressful. I think most people are relieved not to have to bother.
