Spin the canoe around and sit in the front seat facing backwards and the canoe will balance out slit better without having to add a bunch of counterweight in the front. All that said nice mount and video.

Did you have to modify the hull for the waveraider nozzle? Doesn't the horn for the cable hit the hull? Can you give an idea how you did this? Cool ski!
@EricFBАй бұрын
I cut down the horn until it fit basically, bit of trial and error, No mods to hull. About an inch and a half then re-drilled/tapped. I’m running mine static like the 08+ superjet just to add a few degrees to the nozzle. If you’re looking to have dynamic trim you can run a bike brake cable through your siphon bilge line without removing it. I have a video on that setup specifically. Cheers!

The UV filter for some reason gets rather warm as does a few feet of copper pipe coming from it. It happens from time to time. Why ?

This is a beautiful design! I'll be copying it 😅 I feel like the motor was mou ted a little to far out. Was that intentional? I would think that closser to the boat would add more stability, but I've never used a motor, so i don’t know if there are any complications with mounting it that close.

Curious if your 690 had the float oil level sensor with it and if you had to bypass that somehow? I am almost done swapping a 630 into my old 6 wheel and wanted to bypass it for going up steeper hills
@EricFB3 ай бұрын
Not sure to be honest, I’ve been up and down some uncomfortably steep hills and haven’t had any issues. My gut tells me they are the same, I can’t see Honda re-inventing the wheel on such similar engines. I’d run your engine as is and see if it’s an issue before giving yourself more work. Something else you could do leave the sensor and put a switch on the dash to “Bypass on demand”. Cheers

Did you do a test with the heavier engine? If so, what do you think of it? And do you prefer engine bracket or would you rather have a square stern?
@EricFB3 ай бұрын
@@Black-March I have not tested it yet the the gas motor. Too many other projects on the go. That said it would handle it strength wise. If you only have 1 canoe the bracket works well if you want a mix of motor/ paddle. If you only plan to use the canoe with a motor I’d probably get a square stern canoe just to you have 1 less piece of gear to drag around. Cheers

Having trouble installing a new thermostat housing on my Mk5 2.5 Rabbit - that large pipe that goes into the water pump end just won't seat fully - I removed the old O-ring, there shouldn't be anything blocking my path, but I'm still over a 1/4 inch from fully seating so I can't install the mounting bolts. Any ideas? Been muscling it for the last 30 minutes with no luck.
@EricFB4 ай бұрын
If it won’t go in with out the o-ring, not sure, take a look around and make sure you aren’t getting hung up on something. If it won’t go with the o-ring, Put some silicone/ dielectric grease on the o-ring and it’ll pop in with a bit of love. Good luck!

@@EricFB Cheers! Thanks for the insight, I've got some dielectric grease sitting around, I'll see what I can do. Really appreciate the quick response. Thanks for being one of the few folks with this particular job posted on KZbin.

@@EricFB Alright, progress made. The lip off the old thermostat had broken off and was lodged in there. Took it out with a pick, cleaned out the hole - and now I'm only 1/8th inch off from being able to screw the thermostat down lol dielectric grease helped but still not fully seating. Kind'a stumped, but I'm gonna take the night off and see how I can approach it tomorrow. Maybe it's a bad molding or rust built-up in the hole. I'll hit with a wire brush tomorrow.

My first outboard when I was a kid on a 14' Starcraft on the St. Lawrence River. About 1961 my Aunt gave it to me. Ran great except leaked gas into the boat when the motor was tilted up. Rotate it 180° to go backwards.

Hi, I have the same motor. What kind of V-belt pulley and motor mount did you use? Can you give me the link please? Thanks
@EricFB4 ай бұрын
For the pulley I can’t remember for sure, Amazon or princess auto (harbour freight type store), measure your shaft size to get a pulley with the correct bore. Depending on your setup it’ll either be keyed or have a set screw. V-belts are pretty forgiving, I’ve seen people diy pulleys out of just about anything. For the belt I roughly measured the size and went to princess auto and purchased a bunch of belts +/- what I measured and returned the ones that didn’t fit. Good luck!

Pro, nice Idea was thinking of ways to do this with the side mount canoe vs top lip. Instead of those fancy clamps you could have ran the angle iron on the outside and drilled holees through the angle iron, put bolts through and used a double nut system as a tensioner.

What was the issue with the Kawasaki?... i have an 8x8 conquest like this with tge FD620D engine. When i thrash it hard recoveting a moose from the bush, i get an issue where the carboretter bowl gets so hot, the fuel is boiling up. It is driving me nuts & I have not yet figured out a fix or a root cause.
@EricFB5 ай бұрын
The Kawasaki engine was already out when I got this Conquest. I just replaced the he engine he had in it for the Honda. Brand new + Honda reliability. In your case I’m not sure. Make sure your cooling system is fully operational (rad plugged with mud/ leafs etc) heat shields in place, air filter not clogged etc. I do believe these struggle to keep cool when worked hard in the heat but worth giving it a look over. Good luck

Nice work for a first timer! I have two 94s (xlt special and 500 efi) and a 97 trail. They are all good for different reasons. Those 440 are fun too, and great for kids or beginners. The sugary drift snow is rough on the evolved chassis with short tracks and short lugs though. It should do just fine on the trails with those trail studs.

My father in law had a similar motor at his cottage on Lake Huron near Tobermory, Ontario, Canada. I believe his was a 5 horse. We had it on a 14 foot aluminum boat. We used that motor for a long time trolling for Rainbow Trout in the waters surrounding his cottage. Having to turn the motor completely around with the propellor under the boat was always a cool thing to do. RIP Hank Gardiner. Like you he could tinker and fix anything.
