Seeing as these evolutions of themselves are novel Pokémon separate completely from their original counterparts. So, Sirfetch’d for example isn’t a regional form, considering it isn’t a form of an already existing Pokémon, but Alolan Raticate is.

It sounds way less like he’s interested in actually considering any effects on any metagame over his own personal preferences. Darkrai has literally been uber in various generations. Iron Valiant could have been suspect. No idea why so many pokemon’s strategies had to be slashed entirely for an issue with 2 specific pokemon having sleep. Legendaries and paradox pokemon being ubers is practically expectation and it doesn’t evicerate one of the fundamental status effects lmao. His idea for a unified direction for smogon seems to be at odds with the concept of making a ban like that suddenly because you “don’t care about precedent.” It seems to only account for his own perspective and whoever he approves as worthy. Gengar in gen 3 is the coolest mon in competitive history ever. The EV spreads it uses seem like something out of a fever dream, but they tell a story of a metagame evolving throughout decades, it is the ultimate "4 moveslot syndrome" pokemon but since it has 19 viable moves it feels like a puzzle fitting the right gengar in your team, and it allows you to tune and adjust the team easily. Hypnosis is a mistake and sucks, though. Being a trade evolution is an eternal blemish on Gengar's reputation sadly. Swampert is also a very flexible and cool with its variety and evolution through the years, and the ingame argument is also valid, Swampert is just a beast and it is actually a gen 3 pokémon, it is also the coolest case of a starter being a central force in the metagame, others starters that come close either go over the line and are OP or frustrating to play against, or don't reach the same level of goodness that Swampert does
