Thanks for making this video, it's good to see how people enjoyed this game not only by the gameplay, but because of what you said, that It has soul into it, and I 100% agree, I didn't know about the origins of that stuff, and it's good to see how everything was made, I personally love the characterization of the mercenaries and other ones too (like Ms. Pauling). If you were to make more videos about it, the choices, the ideas, the designs, and why you love it in general, I would love it, but If not, I'll just continue to watch your clip dump videos and other stuff that you make too

Sometimes I wish Valve would listen to us at least once in our lives about the TF2 issue because it's a game loved by everyone and it's still alive today. You know, there are games that it created that aren't even that popular.

9:17 feel like this game took a lot of inspiration from the incredibles music too, rewatched it recently and they lean heavily into the spy and brass band kinds of music similar to TF2, not to say that tf2 doesn’t have its other influences or unique styles

this is a great video, but i fear you're either deliberately portraying the community having no players in the VSH section of the community server browser or it's by mistake. i see many filled up community servers and many more with more than just a handful of people by just looking up the gamemode. i'm not sure why the information ins shown as if the gamemodes are a wasteland, when i spent a chunk of my time playing this game in gamemodes like Deathrun, Jailbreak and VSH since 2013. other than that, you hammer in some great points about the art direction of the game. i totally understand the frustrations you have with the modern community.

TF2 Veteran here with almost 5k Hours in (4,992h) TF2 as a whole has been a game changer quite literally for every online game Could even say Revolutionized the gaming industry Its uniqueness cant be disrespected as the company and dev's behind it placed a lot of effort That effort was not in Vain as we can still see the game Run and play the loyal players like myself I Love TF2 and care for TF2 as well However its difficult to side with either the players or the devs Because neither were good to each other. There could be things that could have been made in a better way, maybe communication. While the Devs were silent, players wanted more but already got a lot that was right in front of they face, the game itself. But even today it seems to stay like that until someone shows they effort like Monkey did. Even then the Devs could have instead stayed with they motives and kept the game how they wished with the style. All that effort from 2 people gone to waist and now we dont have TF2,but rather what used to be TF2. I've even compared other games to TF2 in many ways because how how simple games were back in the days and didnt aim to please everyone. The uniqueness was gone long ago thanks to many additions of weapon skins, such way I felt was wrong and pretty much sealed the fate of TF2 I dont know if we would ever get TF2 back how it used to be,however I do know one thing. If TF2 somehow comes back in a way, those almost 5k Hours I would complete reach and continue when TF2 feels right. Monkey awesome video, keep it up lad.

TF2 was life-changing, and it's heartbreaking to watch it decay. I didn't think about it when I started playing. I was playing a few multiplayer games at the time and TF2 just happened to be one I owned as part of the Orange Box. Yet, eventually, I stopped playing each of those games - except for TF2, which until I uninstalled during FixTF2 I had been playing for over 10 years and 2000 hours - nearly THREE TIMES as long as the #2 game in my library. You're absolutely right: we WERE spoiled. As I learned about the game, the mechanics, SFM, the community, the comics - I was shocked to learn just how much effort went into details (or lack of detail) that I had taken for granted. Every choice was made with gameplay as the primary motivation, every design element was intentional and deliberate. Above all, the sheer *unity* of the game (for lack of a better word) was incredible - nothing felt out of place, every piece contributed to the singular unique vision that was TF2. This is the part that turns me off of other hero shooters - their lack of unity; they're designed by committee for mass appeal and wind up scatterbrained, ugly, and soulless as a result. I'm an amateur game dev now, and that's in no small part due to TF2, in seeing how every single aspect of a game can be fine-tuned to optimize player experience and promote the desired emotion in the player, the power of its unified vision. Fuck bot hosts for destroying art and fun for kicks. Fuck the community for taking advantage of Valve's indifference to make a quick buck. Most of all, fuck Valve for letting this game rot.

I started playing tf2 back in 2014 on my dad’s Dell XPS. I’ve played through a lot of changes and while I don’t play as much anymore I feel I have “completed” it in a sense. I’ve played Highlander, unboxed some unusuals, own several Australians, and even when I hop on try to give an unusual or two to new and aspiring new players. 5500+ hours later I can say that I still love tf2.

I can't play in community servers (my ping just died) I give up, but is not my fault. Tf2 is just another dead game, theres no hope... in my servers for now, i hope urs never got something like that.

Valve always make good games, all of these games are beautifull, for the details, characters, weapons, voices, communication, mechanics, soundtracks and the comunity of them. I just, love valve, but, it's so sad the state of these games after years... and specially, i love the communication in these games, it's fells so real, with bots too. (Perfect example, Cs 1.6, source, L4D 1/2, Half life and Tf2 of course.)

I actually have my loadouts tailored around older cosmetics and item sets. I liked the idea of playing the mercs with what they were given in their animated films like the allbrero demo and retro rebel scout from expiration date and the winter cosmetics from end of the line. I wear these cosmetics because I wanted to BE that exact merc since it was presented to us in official media. It’s kinda sad to say but I’ve been playing all year and I have not seen another allbrero demoman. An item set that has so much love put into it as it was crafted, featured in an animated film and even got it’s own taunt to compliment it. So I may as well wear to represent that love.

Thanks for the well-written video, Mönkey. As someone who started this game all the way back in the Pyromania update, I've seen my interests in this game jump between phases of learning the game, trying to get competitively good, trading for profit, and embracing the wackiness of the game (even the ones that clearly shit on TF2's original artstyle). At the end of all of this, I realized that I don't want to be competitive in this game, I don't want more wacky hats, taunts and effects, and I especially don't want maps that are so desperate to "try something new." All I want to do is have fun, and the artists and devs back in 2007 made a game that has allowed me to have the most fun I can have online. I just wish that more people can respect that.

Today, more = better. And we certainly see that effect take place now more than ever when Valve has to cram in more stuff within each seasonal update to satisfy the newcomers. 1-2 new maps are totally fine, with a hat box or a warpiant case. Recycling unusual effects isn't a wild question too, there is so much content already we could recycle stuff and people would be okay with that.

The V-Script gamemodes that are in the game are heavily hindered due to the already bloated map rotation the game currently has, at 210 maps between all 16 gamemodes. And the general convivence of how the casual mode menu is designed, why sift through all those maps and manually choose which ones to play when I could spend far less time clicking the search button and it takes me to a server right away? Which 90% of the time is rarely a miscellaneous gamemode, excluding medieval mode. I can't remember the last time I played Pass-Time except maybe when it was in Beta. And in some cases like Zombie-Infection, they were clearly rushed out the gate with no major polishes or day 1 patches in order to meet deadlines so nobody really it a proper chance and it fell off pretty hard from being in a rushed state. V-Script has the potential to be a great tool for creating unique gamemodes, but outside of VSH (which I think does gets a pass for not straying too far away from the familiarity of TF2 given Saxton Hale was an already existing character, and most of the maps generally stick to the initial design guidelines) most of the V-Script gamemodes that have came out or were revealed on the workshop since haven't reached a similarly positive reception.
