Don’t buy cheap knives….. ! use Stainless steel , they aren’t as flimsy as standard steel , and won’t rust. I was in the union and the best finishers used Stainless , the cheap guys with their cheap knives usually weren’t around long

I was in the union too. Since 1976. The first time I use stainless steel the corner bent and I had to throw it away in about an hour of using it. I love blue steel, just buy a known brand.

I see you have a bucket of that light green joint compound. I did 3 rooms bedding joints and inside corners. Is that ok? The there seems to be less glue? Ill use plus3 for 2nd coat. Should have used +3 everywhere?
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 16 күн бұрын
No, the light green mud is very good for all phases of finishing.

@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 I've been tearing short runs of bed joint tape off and it pulls right off. When I top with plus 3 will it seal the tape better?

@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 I did a test spot on a flat wall with light green mud and plus 3. Light green tape tore off completely and plus 3 left some tape there. I'm just wondering why. Plus 3 has more glue? I should have taped with green all purpose as it's heavier and has more glue? Love your content always!
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 15 күн бұрын
Yes the green lid all purpose is the best for just applying tape. +3 tends to leave blisters when putting it through the bazooka. The light green is supposed to be a true all purpose and runs through the bazooka really well. You can also top , skim and sand it easily.
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 15 күн бұрын
I think you might of wiped all the mud out from behind the tape that's easy to do with the light green all purpose.

I taped 3 small rooms with the light green 40% lighter usg bucket topping. The tape sticks but seems to peel right off the bed easily. Im going to use plus 3 to top off 2 finish coats. I did a sample tear off with plus 3 and the 40% lighter and the plus 3 leaves some tape on the wall where light green totally pulls off. Any thoughts?

i dont get it. if adding water would make the mud moldy, then what liquid do the mfg use to make the pre-mixed mud? why don't they sell that liquid?
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 19 күн бұрын
It's just water anything else would nullify the manufacturer warranty. Just rotate your stock every 3 months, and you'll be just fine. If it's molding before 3 months they will replace it for free.

I had some old drywall that kept releasing the paper from the board and bubbling up real bad. The only thing I tried that worked well was Shellack primer.

I love your channel. I’ve never had a chance to work with anyone to learn drywall and had to learn it strictly by KZbin and practice. I guess it’s worked okay since I make a few thousand a week doing repairs.

Thank you!! Someone who lived in my house before me tried to hang heavy deer mounts on the wall without finding a stud. You can see the two cracks running up and down from the spots they put the screw in. I am going to try and fix it soon

The 12’’ was at 3-4 when you were skimming?
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 22 күн бұрын
Not sure what the question is. I don't think I used a 12" knife but would have used a 12" box to skim.
@nuthinbutbusiness
@nuthinbutbusiness 22 күн бұрын
@@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 yes I know but when you used the box to skim what was the level 3 or 4? Since you do the first coat at 1-2

Cracks are from to thick and dry to fast. Fact. Like using a fan to dry a job faster. If you want mud to dry faster use 20 minute mud powder also us it for deep cracks and to fill in deep holes

Can i skip the step of removing residual glue after taking wallpaper off and scraping the backing? I started sponging the residual glue and its soooo much work. If i can skip that step with this, that would be amazing

Would you put a control joint in a garage on the wall that has the garage door on it? Between the two walls is definately not 30ft, but I have significant joint cracking on the wall of the garage door (between ceiling and garage door when closed)
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1
@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 2 ай бұрын
No never. You cannot stop garages from cracking because you cannot control the temperature. Unless it's heated in the winter and ac in the summer. But still leaving the garage door open can give it a severe shock in temperature.

Thanks for all the tips and tricks. I've got a peaked ceiling with 7 pine beams spanning the ceiling. Any tips on mudding around a circle on an angle would be greatly appreciated. I am just reeling with anxiety. That's 14 points all different sizes over cabinets in an angle. Just pray for me😅
