Cover Stain is brilliant. If you can leave it dry for a full 24 hours it really locks in the stain. The only place I won't use it, is in high humidity bathrooms. The reason is it doesn't breathe and the moisture gathers on the surface of the top coat and then runs down the walls and leaves streak marks It can also cause mildew over time. In bathrooms I use Zinsser 1-2-3 and apply two coats over the stained ceiling. First coat leave for 24 hours to lock in the staining. The tope with matte or egg shell top coat.

@ I would just float out that whole wall. I do this type of thing for work. Use the 20 minute mud to float out the uneven peeled areas. Then once the 20 min mud is dry, use topping mud to float out the whole thing. The issue with using 20 min mud as a final coat is it’s one, hard to sand because it’s a plaster base product and two, it can flash because it’ll sand out smoother than original surface. So definitely use a topping mud as a final coat. Do a light sand of the topping coat. It will sand super easy and be very uniform. You will be really happy with the end result. Thanks for the peel stop advice. I typically just scrape the peeled areas and apply 20 minute mud and if it ever does peel anywhere I cut it out and do a quick Re coat. Sometimes it happens to me, sometimes not. But the peel stop looks like a good thing to use first. Thank again!

Hi Daniel hope you are well. Another good video. Wondering how people can leave woodwork with two haftprimer coats. I mean the top coats are where the durability comes from, strange. That’s like leaving two oil undercoat as a finish. Anyway that aside I still feel water based paints do have one big minus point and that is lack of opacity. I ve tried and used plenty of WB paints. All the Tikkurilla ones, the usual suspects. In colours no issues to speak off. However when you want a two coat system over old oil paints that have discoloured I know two oil satin will be job done. If I use WB I always think drat that needs a third. Pros and cons. No smell, easy clean up, fast drying , non yellowing all great. I do a lot of old properties with large windows and panelled surrounds. Painting it all twice is a task never mind three times. Your video could be the answer, lol. Going to try the jonos aqua guard system on next project. Cheers.
