at 10:45; I don't blame you for the colour change, in that grey, it looks like an x-ray machine, or one of those radiotherapy devices, its that huge. also, to make the parts easier to move around, get a gantry crane, as most likely you will need to clean the heads, condenser glass, etc. regularly, and having this back saving device, means you can do it by yourself.

Just watched the video with the airport test. So i'll just say it again: Berlin Terminal 2 does handchecks unlike Terminal 1 and the airport Bergen, Norway was so far the easiest to seal with regarding travelling with film. Rome was a hell because i got send to 3 different security desks and my films ended up in a scanner anyway

Awesome video. I've travelled alot and so far the only airport where i had no issues was Bergen, Norway! Every time i went there they didnt hesitated to do a quick handcheck and done. Regarding Berlin i did experience that Terminal 2 does handchecks unlike Terminal 1, so sometimes it's just luck where you end up. But there are still some airports out there that wont interfere in any way like Bergen!

What a great interview! I've read SGC and enjoyed the Bridges' photography for ages. Fascinating to see Charys and Marwan's enthusiasm for SGC and the Wideluxx.

This is an awesome experiment, thank you. Is it possible that a CT scanner could fog the film without getting waves or banding? I recently went on vacation and exposed 6 rolls of 35mm film. Most of it looks like garbage. I spoke to my lab and they said it was mostly all underexposed, and there are no waves on the negatives. However, I am an experienced film photographer and I exposed like I always do - +1 stop typically. I am not bad at this so to have 6 rolls all underexposed is not possible. All of the film (35mm) did go through one CT scanner and one regular X Ray scanner during my trip.

Found this immediately after realizing I had walked through security in a rush forgetting all of my film was in my carry on specifically to ask them to hand check it 🙃 though I can’t even remember what scanner they had. But, I’m glad that I now know the potential harm it has done to my film. This video was extremely informative and echo what so many have said. This really was an incredible undertaking and structured great. Thank you thank you!

Hope it was a regular X-ray scanner and your films survived it well! And - absolutely welcome. Happy you liked it!

Nice test. I looked at your test because I just returned to the States from Baku, Azerbaijan. One of my rolls was completely exposed. Not sure if it was the scanners which the film passed through Denver, London, Rome and Baku security. It was ISO 400 color film, but in the past, I always traveled with film with no problems. I am not sure if the exposure is from the X-ray machines or my camera seal was compromised or maybe the camera was accidentally opened (or on purpose by security or my daughter) I have one more roll ISO 200 to go through. I'm not a professional like you but it looks like the film was exposed based on your test results because my shots were completely exposed.

Early September 2024, I went from Bristol Airport (UK) via Amsterdam to Budapest and had my film hand checked at both ends. Bristol did not quibble. Budapest said up to 1600ASA was ok but I said it was better if it could be checked and they kindly obliged. (I had 125 ASA and 400 ASA). All film was in a clear zip lock bag and being polite and friendly goes a long way. Thanks airport staff and friendly Hungarians :)

Lina, the simplest way of describing the concept of a detent, is a rotary knob, in which a ball and spring stop motion, and that a click is heard on turning it, also in Manual gearboxes in cars, the click when you shift gears, the "pop" some people describe, this is the ball pressing against the spring and releasing grip on the lever or switch.

"I can promise today's video is gonna be boring". You are so brave to start in such a way nowadays, with all that engagement bait all over the place. It should feel refreshing that the public for your content is loving such a slow topic like analog photography and so we enjoy the calm and precise content. Congratulations for your videos. I am learning a lot.

Dear Lina, thank you so much for the great effort in giving a documented video to the film community. A question please, what do you mean by “Protective Bag” do you mean you carry bag?
@DannyChau7Ай бұрын
If they can't see through the lead bag, they just turn up the x-ray and that's where the damage occurred.

Very relevant and beautiful analysis especially the limitations of LED. I am a fan, The unpleasant aspect of blue/green systems is how dark the image appears on the easel while focussing and dodging and burning. Ilford Multigrade 500 is the father of all these b/g systems. Often for cheap on eBay. About the issues of glass carriers, pro labs and precision enlargements needs perfect flatness to exploit to the max the quality of your nice Schneider Componon S lenses. Focomat enlargers have a top glass at the minimum. Pro Durst and DeVere also. Dust management can be learned in a few minutes and saves spotting and improves local contrast by keeping sharpness. Beseler Negaflat carriers were the only ones to my knowledge to address flatness without glass. They are hard to find and they damage the very edge of the negative. Thanks again!

Does anyone know what happens to instant film, like instax iso 800? I've also read that after developing the photos are safe from scanners, although few people claimed otherwise.

Hi Lina, Recently I started to print on fiber based paper from Ilford but I run into problems with drying and getting the photos really flat so I can frame and mat them in a nice way. After washing I put them between two drying papers for a few days under a pile of books but at the end they still are slightly curled at the edges and in the middle and not flat. Can I ask you what you recommend on how to flatten fiber based prints? As this is the first time I place a reaction on your channel I would like to thank you for all the very instructive and informative videos - they are almost a master darkroom class on their own!!!! All very much appreciated!!! Very best regards Dirk
