Great video! How does it work for ARRI cameras in RAW and ProRes?

Super well explained. It's all well and good until we start applying too much technical stuff at the cost of what actually looks good. Outdoors shooting wide open my image probably looks better at ISO 200 than native 800 with an added ND filter, causing vignetting and cheaper glass in front of the image. A fine balance!

I wish more videos on youtube were like this rather than 'observations after purchasing a cool camera'. Would have saved me years of fooling around. I use the pocket 4K for all my personal projects, travel or run and gun stuff and it's been a couple of years since I've shot anything other than 400 & 4000 ISO in RAW. Especially when it's daylight exterior or an area with no control over light and decent light levels. Both 400 and 4000 (or 3200) ISO are points, after which you don't gain any dynamic range in highlights. So just the clipping is taken care of whereas the whole ISO range is at my disposal in DaVinci. The rest is upto my eye and it's ability to pick a shot with subjectively good lighting. If I were using the pocket 4K for my professional shoots, I'd shoot the same way unless shooting a shadow dominant scene with lighting, where I'd probably keep the ISO 100-200 as there is virtually no noise in the blacks in my workflow.

Oh boy, just 27 seconds in and two strong takes that are just not correct. Increasing ISO does NOT make your camera sensor "More sensitive to light", NOR does it "Add MORE NOISE". I'm going to stop there, but if your desire is to educate your audience, please do some research on the topic. There is plenty out there and I'll link just one by an expert. This is NOT the film world we are talking about. ISO is amplification of signal after the sensor captures it. Exposure is determined by scene luminance, the lens aperture, and the shutter speed. After photons are captured, converted to electrons, turned into voltage, amplification of signal occurs (ISO) - amplifying both signal and shot/random photon noise. Increasing ISO doesn't increase noise, it just amplifies the shot noise. Most top end consumer cameras these days have all these steps and the analog to digital converter at the pixel level, eliminating "front end" camera added noise as an issue - i.e. all extra noise is shot noise that is there anyway - just amplified, or added by in camera processing (rear end) (which is also very low these days). www.lensrentals.com/blog/2023/05/how-digital-cameras-determine-exposure-part-1/

I understand where you’re coming from, but I think that the purpose of this video was more to educate on how ISO works on different cameras and how one can apply them creatively. I think that what you wrote expressed that this video was trying to give “rules” of video or photo work, with regards to ISO. Perhaps you will benefit from watching again with this new perspective of it being technically educational rather than creatively constricting. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, I would love to hear what you have to say.

This is a great video, i still have a vew questions though. 1. What is the best way to tell what type of ISO your camera supports? 2. Assume a situation where the image of a pocket 4k is exposed perfectly at at 1000 ISO, would it be better to shoot at 1250 ISO and bring it down because of the second native ISO? 3. What happens to the noise value if you shoot? BELOW the native ISO (400 ico the Pocket 4k) or is 400 not necessarily the value with the lowest noise and is it digitally redusced when shooting below native ISO?

Raising iso DOES NOT make the camera more sensitive. It mearly amplifies signal coming off the sensor. The world is full of this sort of thing where anyone can jump on the internet and start mis informing people. 😢

2:43 this process of encoding in log applies to RAW aswell. Most cameras today with the exception of RED, Sigma FP and a few others take the 12, 14bit or even 16bit linear raw data and encode it to 10-12bit log raw. The one you're referring to is 10/12bit log in a debayered and later compressed format such as hevc or h.264 or even prores

So if I have sigma fp am I just kinda out of luck when colorgrading? I know log is way better because you have more control over the color.
@shueibdahir
@shueibdahir 2 ай бұрын
@@nikstro no its not. the sensor sees light linearly but the problem is the amount of data because its very inefficient and it consumes a lot of memory so log is the solution to that. Raw photos that you take with you camera are an example of linear raw. As you know that beats log anyday

I bought the sound panels guide. The cross section A-A in page 7 doesn't have dimensions, and by what appears in the exploded view, its dimensions are not proportional (Frame: 195 mm. Fabric frame: 50 mm). That is almost a 4:1 relation, but in the cross section doesn't appear to be so. Could you please add the dimensions to the cross section?
