@@jeffholt3841 You do realize you're saying that Gary (arguably the best ever), Paul, the Z-man (RIP) and a whole lot of others on that field couldn't cut on a HS team today while the HSers would blow right past McCabe, right? You're statement is idiotic and born of ignorance, had you seen these guys play you'd realize that. JFTR, this was a period before the sticks became so perverted that ball would actually come out with a good check. Today's players have a huge advantage over past players in that respect, it doesn't take nearly the skill to master the the stick as it did back then and you can just do more with them (along with a ball that has grip) than these guys could. Give them the same equipment and they'd still be as good in today's game, these were tremendous athletes and lacrosse players.

@@blueunison9075 I played in the 80s. Pockets were the same. You are thinking of wood sticks. The players had really low skill sets compared to today. Most college players wouldn't make a good high school team today. Lax was a spring sport for football players. Big strong athletes, average to low stick skills and dodging skills.

Very very Close to every year, one hiccup.... Kevin Mahon 75, 76, 77 (2nd, Hm, 2nd) Federico 78, 79, 80 (1st, 1st,1st) Brian Holman 81,82, 83 (Hm, Hm, 2nd) Larry Quinn 84, 85 (1st, 1st) 1986 - the hiccup. Stuart Jones was the goalie. Quinn had graduated, Kessenich did not arrive till next season (87) then Kessenich was all american every year for the next four, then Giardina twice, then a two year hiccup

Old school lacrosse relies more on ball movement. The skillets of the players were horrible. Most wouldn't make a good high school team today. The skillets of players have really improved. The game is more boring as it has become a matchup game of one on ones

Young bucks that didn’t play in the 80’s or 90’s don’t understand that you simply couldn’t do the things with those old sticks that you can with today’s.
@OaksArm
@OaksArm 2 жыл бұрын
@UCesVFRlETF_WWdJkl1UPerg the sticks are definitely different, the main difference is that the heads are now offset. There’s no transition today for a number of reasons, in my opinion. The main reason is that the ball’s on the ground a hell of a lot less and THAT’S because it’s very difficult to take the ball out of today’s stick. The second reason is all the substitutions. No clears, rides or fast breaks because middies get off the field if they lose or gain possession. That’s due to coaching and it sucks. TLDR: no loose balls because of the sticks and the disappearance of the two-way middie.
